This video is super helpful! Last time I got mine changed by a dealership and they added 10 miles. something about "driving" it around before changing the oil is a crock of shit. Sinc their tech thought it will be fine to drive it around, won't be needing their help on future oil change anymore.
@@jaylopes8489 Manual says every 10k or once per year, whatever comes first. I did the first one around 2.5k, just came up on 1 year of ownership so Toyota did it for free, odometer was at 4K. I will continue doing 1x per year or 5k miles, but that is just my opinion.
Good video, but I would do the oil filter first before draining the oil because when you take out the filter housing and filter, there's still a bit of old dirty oil that'll drain back to the oil pan. Just a way to get as much old oil out as possible.
A 0w-20 oil is better for lower temperature protection on the engine. So is better for stop/start, shorter journeys. The 5w-30 has less protection during colder temperatures, but better as you say when the engine is hot. I'm not sure there is much difference between the oils with fuel economy...
German Castrol 0W-30 FTW, buy it at Crappy Tire on sale in quart size bottles not the gallon jug. They are manufactured in different plants around the world, and are different to how they "perform"
@@gaara2578 I haven’t driven the four cylinder 2.0 version. It’s a beautiful car in any variant and I’d probably be inclined to recommend any kind of Toyota Supra. But I’d recommend getting the six if you can...seems like a better value to me. And I’d recommend only buying what you can afford with cash and avoiding car debt. I did decades of driving economy cars into the ground before pulling the trigger on the Supra. Nearly one year in and no buyer’s remorse here!...:-)
BMW engine has not used a dipstick for over a decade (at least). Their sensor system actually works very well. I got a 101000 miles BMW and the oil level sensors are working fine.
The B58 engine has a habit of destroying its oil filters when removed during a service. Official BMW remedy is to remove and replace the entire housing along with the remnants of the broken filter and then replace both with new. What preventative steps would you recommend during filter installation so that you can be sure the filter will release properly at the next oil change without destroying itself??
I feel like a metal housing (like Toyotas) and better filter quality would help. But I dunno if they make metal housing filters like the high quality TRD filters. It’s disappointing to see that plastic housing being used and you gotta torque it to 25 ft lbs.
GDI fuel pumps are noisy AF! I would rather an oil level sick for manual inspection, electronic technology is great and cool, but can & will fail at some time...for that reason I'm out, lol j/k
@@Dr.Ticklebum69 when it begins to fail or fails (over 10 years from now) it works just like an o2 sensor or the like; it starts to throw a light on the dash... in this case, it will throw the check oil sensor/sporadically and give a false positive for the oil being low. A lot of cars aren't going to notice/warn you when you're down a quart of oil... these will.
I spend a few nights to understand what is the right oil for my b58 engine. As he said at 4:15, for b58 engine, if you drive hard ...go with the 5w-30 with bmw ll-01 for peace of mind, otherwise, stick with the 0w-20 with BMW ll-17 FE engine oil for daily use and save bucks. But B58 engine is designed to run at low viscosity engine oil to achieve high performance and economy at the same time. so who is right ...
Even thou liqui moly is good stuff, that stuff meets LL-01 That motor asks for LL-14FE+ The most recent stuff is LL-17FE+ Just a warning to those who still want to retain the OEM warranty....
I've got an oil vac pump for my boat and you can just shove the wand in where the filter is and suck the oil out of the bottom of the pan without jacking up the car
was looking to track mine as well def a weekend spirited driver more but will enjoy every now ans then on the track, would you guys say putting the 5w30 be safe ? will plan on runnung either motul or molly oil

As an ex BMW tech(early E60/E65 days) who was a Lexus tech before that, I am shocked of the pairing of BMW and Toyota and hope BMW benefits from Toyota's product improvement qualities. Toyota techs, It's about to get real. Hopefully cannabis is legal near you.

liqui moly just released their bmw ll-17 fe+ complied oil Top Tec 6600 last month... I spent 3 nights to understand oil spec for my b58 engine...It's so complicated.
