When I did my change, I used a 10' silicon clear hose. I tied the top of the hose well above the fill port. Then, simply let gravity feed the dif fluid - no need to tiringly hold / squirt the dif fluid from under the 4Runner. Once dif fluid starts back-flowing out the fill port, stop. Let any excess drip out the fill port. Voila! Ga Tech ME
Great video. From a practical sense would not matter, but I'm finding torque specs in multiple places for fill and drain plugs Rear Diff. to be 36 ft lbs.
I got you on that too! Just need to finish a couple shots and edit them. Won't be long. Honestly is the same as the 3rd Gen video a did a few weeks back. Really simple , just don't strip a bolt!
The manual says 75W-85, GL5 for the rear and front differential. How come you are using 75W-90? How do you know that the Royal Purple is a substitute for the Toyota 75W? Thanks!
I think the flat side of the crush washer should sit against the bolt head rather than against the differential housing. But I've seen differing opinions about this. What do you think?
@morpheus1818 One way or the other, keep in mind ,it is a crush washer. When it is tightened, it will crush, which keeps it from leaking from to flat surfaces. It's just a matter of opinion. Just a thought.
You can also change your diff when warm so as to get out suspended particles might save you a bit on flushing redline ns ? I’m not sure if you want ls oil or oil with friction modifiers especially with locking diff
Thank you for this 🙏🏽 how does the 4runner drive now? My 30k service is coming up and toyota quoted me $450 which includes this too. I now feel more comfortable doing it myself, thanks again!
Just did mine at 40,000 it was definitely grey and nasty. Not quite as much sludge on nutt as yours though. Mine did take 3 quarts and about a quarter of another quart 🤷🏼♂️. I did drive around and get fluid hot so maybe a little more came out. Anyway thanks for video.
@@BtwilliasGarage thanks for the update. I put 80-90W in my 1999 Gen 3 transfer case/transmission (manual 5 speed) and it would hardly shift in the Colorado winter temps. Had to change it out to the thinner 75W-90, which was the recommended vis. 75W-90 is hard to find sometimes.
Honestly I just researched a few days and looked at oil lab test results and felt comfortable going with the 75W90. I'm sure either would work fine, but feel free to pick your poisen. Here's the link to the Royal Purple. You can go OEM if you want to hurt the wallet a little more but have peace of mind it's what the factory called for. Be sure to crack the drain plug first on each! Best of luck and thanks for watching! amzn.to/2Ojdruu
Yeah from info I've gathered most people are changing them from 40k-80k. 60k should be safe depending on your life style. I'm not sure when the trans is recommended. Have not done it yet
I saw someone take off the spare tire so that way you can just pour the fluid in rather than pumping. I might go that way even tho It may be a pain in the ass taking the tire off and putting it back on 😂
@@BtwilliasGarage You Sir, are awesome!! Thank you.. Although I am not sure if this is the same one you used on a different video where the yellow plate rose even higher, as if it had a bigger cylinder to elevate it. I'll have to replay some of your latest videos to see. EDIT: Found it.. on this video(Your oil change video), it is at the 1:18 minute mark that you see the part in question ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c7qCE2hpBh0.html . Look at how high it is off of the black can/receptacle.
@@BtwilliasGarage So, the one you posted the link to, come with these extensions? or are they purchased seperate? Sorry to ask so many questions lol .. But I do like it!!! and would like to use it on my 4runner and GX.
That's cool, put that in if you can. You just need to go until it starts pouring out of the fill hole. Depending on how flat you park, how warm it was, etc people will always be a little different
@@BtwilliasGarage i justed picked up some mobil1 75w90 because I couldnt find the recommended 75w85. Thanks for the video! I'm going to be doing this tomorrow
