Great intro, and yet another informative tutorial, it’s amazing how many people don’t recognise the importance of spark plugs and their condition, thank you. We’ve found on various vehicles that if the engine is cooling it can be easier to remove the plugs, especially if the car has been stood.
Thank you for the comment :D it’s true, people don’t realise. :) that’s an interesting point, I haven’t had to work on a stops car before. I will watch your review soon. Cheers guys :)
Thank you very much. With your videos i will change my oil-oil filter, air filter and cabin filter myself. If it was serviced at authorized dealer they would change air filter after 70k km and cabin filter after 2 years! For three times more money!
Thank you so much for your kind comments. It’s nice to get some feed back :) I need to finish filming my fuse box location video. If there is anything you need to know just message me. Oh newtis is a great website to help assist you :)
Gosh my 1 series F21 has done 56k and never had the spark plugs changed. No problems experienced luckily however its currently getting a major service at my local BMW dealership inc. spark plug change. Great video by the way! Thanks
Hey, sorry it took so long to reply :) I changed my plugs only to teach people how to it. :) I could of got away with a clean up :) I hope the service went well. Cheers :)
matt, thank you for this video! Just a quick one, I have a drive train error on my 116i. I scanned it with a generic obd scanner and it said that there is a misfire in cylinder 2... My question: what are the cylinder numbers? Thank you! respect from south africa!
Vishal Ramphal hey, on BMW engines, the spark plug which is the closest to the front of the car (the radiator end) is cylinder number one. So it’s the cylinder just behind it :) Try swapping the coil pack with another in the engine, and see if the misfire moves :) just don’t get the leads mixed up.
Vishal Ramphal I believe you can only get rid of this issue, once the error has been fixed. When the car senses the fault is sorted it may even turn this error off itself.
Hi, do you ever went to get scan your car to see why your old sparks plugs were black if you didnt pass 60,000km. You haved any problem about that or anything (with new spark plugs). Also is any other code to buy the correct sparks? Thank you, great video!
Hey, since I don't really put many miles on the clock, and drive like a granny around Moscow and not driving it hard at times, an injector clogged up, which caused issues. The dealer cleaned the injectors out and she now runs perfectly :) To find the right spark plugs, i typed my last 7 digits into REALOEM to find the spark plugs I need. Then I used that part number to find me other brands :) cheers :)
dream of ice when the spark plug is in the engine, you tighten it up with a torque wrench to 23nm. You put the sparkplugs in dry, not lubricated :) it needs to be done before you put the coil packs back in
Rhys Ensor hey, thank you for the comment. I am glad you liked the video. As for the spark plugs, I got mine from a place in Russia, so it won’t be much use to you. I need to find a good place for my friends back home in England. I used to use carparts4less when I was in England. :)
Hey, I haven't made a video yet, but until I do, here is a link www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f20-116i-sha/repair-manuals/63-lights/63-17-front-fog-lamps-additional-lamps/GxvSvzgh I did make a video on how to change the bulb, but not the unit. But my video will make it clear, on how to gain access to them bolts :)
Hi matt, thanks for sharing, good information. How's the NGK spark plugs? Could you please advise any reason you getting it instead of BMW spark plugs? Thanks
Hey, thanks for the kind comment. I was told by someone that NGK made the plugs for BMW, plus they were much cheaper. I can’t comment on the plugs because I had to take my car to get diagnosed since the oil level was rising slightly due to a faulty injector, so she is running on original BMW plugs. They have been great :)
@@mattsbeamer Hi matt, thanks for the prompt response. I have changed all 4 Bosch ignition coil recently, and it got misfiring when pushing further from 165km/h (for testing purposes), guessing the spark plugs not in good condition, I am eyeing on the BMW spark plugs but interested to learn about the NGK/Bosch alternative. Thanks again for sharing & advice, much appreciated!
Hey Matt, hope you are well. I desperately require your advice. I have a 2015 116i Auto with 90 000km on the clock. Recently, the car was misfiring badly and using a scanner tool, it indicated a misfire in cylinder 2. I replaced the spark plugs, thinking that was the issue. Unfortunately, Cylinder 2 had oil in it. I took it to a service shop and they said that the oil leaking into the cylinder was not from the o-ring gasket. After dismantling and putting the cover on, the misfire in cylinder 2 has persisted. The car is not smoking which indicates a blown engine... any idea what we could investigate???? I really need to save $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Hey, I am well thank you, I hope you are too, other than the car issue. Yes, normally if the oil is getting past the rings, it would throw out blue smoke. Did you replace the coil pack too? If not, try swapping the coil pack itself with another in the engine. (just remember unplug the coil packs before doing so, as the leads must stay with the same cylinder it was made for). If the code moves then its the oil pack. When they did the job, did they check to see if that spark plug was free from oil, after it ran :) Cheers
@@mattsbeamer Same definition as I do :D I have the experience of the hose didn't installed properly and when trying to push harder, drive train error displayed. I scanned the fault code, it shown the code related to the low charging pressure
Hi Matt's or anyone, is there a specific spark plug tool required? My 16mm spark plug remover seems to be the wrong type. Can anyone elaborate please as I can't remove the plugs?
When standing in front of the car, cylinder 1 is the closest to you. If your car is a 4 cylinder engine, it will be the cylinder furthest away from you. Windscreen 4 3 2 1 Front of car
You don't need to disconnect the hoses from the acoustic cover, you can carefully flip it over with the hoses connected and lay it upside down on the turbo. Obviously don't do this if the turbo is still hot, lol.
Hello i own the same vehicule and when i tried to change the sparks i've noticed that the rear placement of the vacuum hose on the engine cover have broken, and i couldn't find the hose... i've bought a new engine cover and tried to find the hose but i've failed ever since the car is driving on 3 cylinders and i couldn't find the issue if someone of you could check where the hose is comming from that would help me thanks !
Hey, I am sorry I didn't get to go to the car tonight. I hope I will have some time in the morning. As soon as I get the time, I will do it. Sorry once again.
mattsbeamer Your video helped me a lot. I had a problem with my series 1 f21 2013, misfire on cyl4, I was riding on 3cyl. I just changed the 4 spark plugs (not just 1) and it works as before. thanks for the video I could see how to take them apart, done in 5min! 4:20
ASAP SeFiR thank you so much for the feedback :D it really motivates me to make more diy videos :) I am glad you were able to do the job!!! Good luck with future work on the car! :D
Curry 4836 to be honest I am about nervous cleaning it. ) I knows illegal for me to clean my car myself (in Moscow) but I also worry that if I take it to a garage to clean the engine, they may mess it up. :D
