Well done. I really like how you treat each customer and vehicle as if it is your own. You have pride in your work and it shows, and thank you for sharing the video.
I had to use a jack and place it under my wrench to loosen the fill plug. I went to town and asked 4 shops to loosen it , and no one could , even with top shelf impact wrenches , IR , Snap On , Nitro cat , Air Cats, CP, . Nothing budged it. I soaked it with penetrate for a couple days. And came up with the idea of using the Jack . It almost lifted my Tacoma off the ground , when it popped loose...It was loud as hell...I put some anti seize on the threads before reinstalling. Changed it several times since then and no problems .
Mine came off when I applied heat to the case. Not propane torch, but a oxy acetylene. It came off real easy. Now I apply anti seize only on the washer
This is what happens whe you sell cars with "seal for life" components. Regular owners will never have this changed as is not on the scheduled maintenance list. Great video
Its scheduled on my 2016 manual but only under " additional maintenance for special operation conditions", does tat really mean I dont need to ever change it?
I'm new to the channel, but amused to hear a European person working on a Japanese car. Love the content and this is more educational than Game of Thrones!
For anyone trying to do this note on the v6 automatic filler plug has very little room. A ratchet wrench will not fit. You will need to cut a hex bit down to 2 to 3 inch, then use a 10mm flat wrench to remove the plug. It's a damn pain on v6 automatic.
Just did the front, rear diffs and transfer case on my 2005 4runner. Way too many miles on it but it was not abused. Not difficult at all. Didn't need breaker bar.
Peter, You are too nice to say it but I suspect that pint of lubricant has NEVER been changed before! Thank goodness you took decisive action and confronted the problem head on. The shavings on the drain plug could lead to a 'R' rating for this video. Let's see what horror awaits us at the rear differential. 10 years and 170,000 miles surely exceeds the recommended maintenance intervals ;)
even though alot of times u can get away with it , but He should have drained only the half of the oil and refill .. re-drain and refill after the car running for few days ... this method is more safe i guess
Thanks, this was super helpful info. I just changed both front and rear diffs in my 2010 3.5. I have a question. I bought this Rav4 from original owner. It has 228k on it and they never, ever changed the transmission fluid. With this many miles is it better to do a drain, filter replacement and refill or just let sleeping dogs lie and do nothing? I’ve heard that if it’s never been done, with this many miles better to leave it alone. Thanks, I really appreciated it!
you said you are in northern california where?? i live in medford oregon and close to california would love you to do some service on my 2011 camry le.
Love your work and vids petr hope the spelling is correct, I would take a guess and say you are north European Sweden or Denmark area? Don't care where you are from I'm just totally amazed by your work
Thanks for the video. A minor point Peter, English "crusher-washer" --> crush-washer" And I have no idea why this is so or what rule of English applies here. Keep the 10 minute plus videos coming.
Had the transfer case and rear differential fluid changed today on my Mitsubishi Outlander sport. Cost me $300. Absolute highway robbery, but had to gave a shop do it to keep warranty valid.
Hi, do all 4wd rav 4's have the diff lock button? If it doesn't have it does that mean it is 2wd? If it is slipping does the power get sent to the rear wheels to help with traction? thanks friend :)
My 2011 RAV4 V6 (USA) Limited doesn't look like that, exactly. The space in front of the transfer case fill hole is so narrow I couldn't use the same 10mm hex socket (same as yours) I used for the rear And front diff/trnsfr case on my 08 RAV4 4cyl and the rear diff of this car. Seems the trans unit is actually situated closer. The space is only wide enough for an 10mm allen wrench and not the socket itself. At most there's 1/4 inch on either side of the key. Seems I'll need to use a 2in+ longer 10mm allen wrench that isn't in a socket. Any idea why it's different and suggestions for a proper tool?
I have a 2017 awd 6 speed trans with what looks like 12 mm bolt just above the drain bolt; could this be a fill hole for refill instead of the bolt behind front wheel.
Hello Toyota Maintenance Sir, I have recently bought a 2017 Lexus RX350 with 22k miles, should I be looking at doing transfer case, front differential, and brake fluid replacement soon? It has relatively low mileage but the AGE is getting up there, with in service date of Nov 2016 so around 3.5 years as of May 2020.
So I had this job previously done. Here i come on the next service thinking everything is going to be smooth. Well, the fill plug was stripped. I tried saving it but no Allen was working. So I heated it up and got it out with chisel (got lucky). Do any of you know the part number to fill plug? So many part numbers out there. Any help is appreciated!
