"PLEASE DRAIN YOUR OLD TRANSMISSION FLUID BY opening Drain Plug which is located right in the middle of PAN".
The reason I couldn't do it because my DRAIN PLUG Torque was too tight. I was going to change the filter and gasket anyway so I didn't bother too much and went ahead and opened the whole PAN and drained the fluid.

Drain The Fluid Through The Drain Plug Hole..(That is what It Is There For).....Then Release The Pan.....Clean It Of Any Crap With Lint Free Cloth.....Change Filter...Put Back On With New Gasket....A Lot Less Of A Mess....Simples.

That works if the car is level. If the front is jacked up then slot of the fluid is after of the drain anyway.

What i love about the Mercedes models designed in the early 90s or the early 2000 is that a man can work very easy on the technical stuff as well the mechanical. Very simple made and reliable cars. Now, the new models after 2008-10, the MB cars are so complicated to work on them... its like a pickle on the ass. Very nice video and i've changed the transmission oil on my ML at home. For sure you can save couple hundred of euros without going to the Car Service.

You can use your fluid extractor to remove about 4 quarts of transmission fluid by sucking it out from the transmission dipstick hole. This takes minutes and if you measure the fluid and replace it with the same amount, by pouring fresh fluid slowly using a narrow neck funnel through the same hole, your transmission will be happy. Remember that there is fluid in the torque converter that will not be removed by this method (or by simply draining the transmission from underneath the SUV without flushing the torque converter). But, you can repeat the fluid exchange process by sucking fluid out of the dipstick hole a couple of times after driving the SUV for a few miles in between (or running the engine and manually shifting through the gears while constantly stepping on the brake, of course). This repeated fluid exchange will renew most of the transmission fluid by dilution. The fluid you need for each exchange costs less than $30 (make sure you use the approved grade for your MB). You will be fine for the lifetime of the SUV if you do this every 3-4 years without replacing the filter. However, if your transmission has been neglected for many years and does not shift smoothly you may need to replace the filter and flush all the fluid from it (including the fluid in the torque converter). But, I would still try the fluid exchange method even in that case before opening the transmission and doing more costly and messy repairs.

I've got a 03 ML500 as well, and will be doing this in the next few weeks sometime. To confirm, there is no drain plug on the torque converter on our model vehicle? Did you run a flush at all? ATF is so expensive, and I hate the thought of using all that new fluid just to dump it out a few minutes later.

You totally forgot the drain plug, 5mm hex key. Wouldve made it way easier. Also, if you dont disconnect the line and flush out old fluid, this just mixes old with new. Newer than 2000 doesnt have drain plug on torque converter to get all the fluid out.
@hdidane00
@hdidane00 6 лет назад
not really. even if he drains the torque converter out the drain plug there is still plenty left in the oil cooler and lines. it needs to be flushed that's the only way to get it all out and replaced with new fluid. otherwise u just mixing old and new fluid which is a waste.

@@hdidane00 Mercedes Advise Not To Drain Torque Converter And Just Drain Pan And Change Filter And Gasket.... As They Do At The Dealership On A Service..........Prevents Risk Of Transmission Slip ...Pound To A Penny You'll Get Slip Doing A Complete Flush On One..Just Keep It Reasonably Healthy With A Pan Drain And Refill ( Exact Same Amount That Came Out To Go Back In) So Make A Note Of It)....Obviously Check That Level Is Correct Before Starting With Trans Dipstick (Available From Ebay...If You Find You Need To Top Up After Putting Pan Back On..Just Put Small Funnel Into Dipstick Hole And Pour In Carefully To Get Correct Level..Correct Level Is Crucial....For Correct Performance.

@@awsomeal100 I concure, dealer recommened service procedure, do not wipe off valve body! Do not drain torque convertor! this is a drain and fill procedure. A few things that I noted but not sure if it’s applicable to this SUV model since mine is W166/2012 ML350 4Matic. The temperature has to reach 45 degree Celsius after you put at least 4 quarts and start the vehicle. You will then need to shift the gears to drive, reverse and park. Finally need to put some more and make sure there is no more drain to make sure enough fluid has been sucked inside and it doesn’t need anymore which may be anywhere from 4.5 to 6 liters/quarts. The question I had though is since I am yet to start this on my own do you put the fluid from the bonnet or do you use the pump from within since all videos show the fluid being pumped from the bottom?
@EasySteps_Sidhu

First time just oil changing without filters and other stuff, drive 10 miles, 2 time, change al the kit!and the oil level hast to be majored with the engine on!
