People like you are the reason why we are saving hundreds of dollars and gaining useful knowledge to utilize again in the future. I appreciate your effort sir. Thank you.
@@dtmxing Any torque specs for water pump? I was searching online but could not find those specs. I preffer using manufacturer proposed specs than my feeling when tightening those back.
Honestly bro just wanna say thank you for helping me. No mechanics are available till 3 weeks no joke and i need my vehicle going in 3 days. Appreciate you man. If i could pay you for helping me i would!!! No joke. Saved me alot of money.
This video step by step is probably the best water pump replacement video I've watched.Self exclamatory and you made it a point to explain every move. I've changed many waterpumps but this particular one is insane how many bolts there are to fasten it to the block. Than on top of that having to remove thermostat housing.Never saw anything like it but Toyota reliability is the best vehicle on the market. Vehicle I'm doing is a 2010 Tacoma,I'll leave a comment to how it went with the time it took.
Thank you! This was my first how to video and my first time doing it also. I made it to help other people and save people money! Appreciate the kind comment! May the Lord bless you
This is a great instructional video. The author's comments on reverse threaded studs, component removal, and other small but critical details in the process are really helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I just did this on a 05 tundra with 4.0 v6, it was even easier than the one you did. I changed belt, fan clutch, thermostat, and all hoses at same time, purchased all parts from rock auto, asian water pump was < $100, with all other parts came to about $250. I would have never attempted if not for this video, you rock brother!
Waterline routing through the oil filter housing was different on the 07 FJ, also didn't remove any of the skid plates, everything else was spot on. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a Million, so Thanks a Million!
I like to just break loose fan nuts with the belt still on. When going back together, prep the belt before you put the fan in. Just after loosely putting the nuts on, reinstall belt so you can tighten the nuts.
This will be my 2nd time doing this process, the first was on a ‘07 FJC and now on a ‘07 4runner. Thanks for taking the time to share. My 2 cents. Place a large sheet of cardboard on the backside of the radiator so you dont damage the radiator when installing the fan. Dont ask how I know. Its also a great time to change the radiator if its 10+ years old. The plastic side tanks will crack as they age, which is why I am doing this on my 4runner today. Both the radiator and water pump were leaking. If you plan to tow, think about installing a transmission cooler now as well. Nice work!
When I replaced the radiator I found fine alum bits in the coolant. I was also able to visibly see pink crust forming between the pump and crank pulley. At 222k miles it just made sense to replace it. They only last so long.
Great video, it definitely helped as I had to change the water pump on my FJ. Getting that pump with the three gaskets and getting the thermostat housing back over the inlet and rubber seal was a beast with only two hands. FYI - For those that have a TRD supercharger like me, it helps alot to go ahead and take the throttle body off.
I haven't changed a water pump in over 20 years and after watching your video, I remembered WHY and with the added complexity of my vehicle that you show in your video, I am NOT about to take that on.😂🤣😂🤣 But NOW I know EXACTLY what to do, if I HAVE to!!! Thank you very much sir, for helping an old dinosaur like me out!!! NICELY DONE!!! 😉😁😎😎
Nice video. I think when it comes time to replace the water pump on my Tacoma, im gonna go ahead and replace a lot of the components you removed, like the hoses, thermostat, idler pulleys, tensioner pulley, fan clutch, serpentine belt, and finally a radiator. That way k don't have to worry about replacing each at different times. It's more a preventative maintenance
Wow your my hero, I watched other videos and people were taking all kinds of stuff off like generator and tensioner assembly. So much better to take those idlers off! Thank you!
Always liked to replace every coolant hose and clamps that I touched repairing coolant issues. Ya , mite seem redundant , but eliminated customers coming back , super upset cause the darn vehicle was still [or started] leaking again.
Back in the day a water pump cost 25.00, only had to take the shroud, fan, belt, and then easily remove water pump and install new one 30 mins to an hour max
Man, you did this while holding a camera, nice! May we please ask: Do we need some kind of silicone gasket sealer for this job? Does the water pump for this motor need some kind of gasket where the pump meets the block? 2:05 Tip: before removing belt, crack the 4 10mm bolts holding the fan loose. It is helping you keep enough tension on the fan so it doesn’t try to spin on ya :)
Guys I did my thermostat and coolant flush when my 2006 Toyota 4Runnes was 90K , right now has 170K and no leak at all , so maintenance , maintenance , ah do not forget buy the original toyota coolant at the Dealer ship , is expensive buy it is the only way avoid problems.
What problems are you referring to? I've always heard this but have never seen or heard of a single problem from removing all the coolant and replacing with compatible coolant.
I replaced my water pump yesterday following your instructions! Thank you man I saved 600$ question: do you know what those hoses are called. The ones connected under the oil filter .
Thanks great tutorial vid!! Question?? Should i replace my 190k miles 04 4runner water pump if i don’t see sign of any leak or overheating problem? Thinking of just replacing my serpentine belt since this has not been replace.
If you do replace the waterpump while doing belt by the Toyota pump or asin pump. Asin makes the Toyota pump and ypu can buy it considerably cheaper than the Toyota labeled waterpump
Thanks for the video. I have a question I buy my water pump for my 06 toyota tacoma the come with 3 gaskets one metal, 2 regular paper gasket do you know which one I have to use?
You can get the fan shroud off before you take the fan clutch off - you just have to remove the fan from the clutch. Just makes it easier to not have to fumble around with both the clutch and the shroud and getting the bolts on
Thanks. Reassembling now. This really saved me a lot of thinkering. Clarify, rookie question, the silicone on the bolts is silicone lube, not silicone sealant like the gaskets correct?
Just FYI, my local dealership quoted me $1100 for the job. Pre-tax of course. I bought the Aisin kit for $55 on Amazon Warehouse. Total actual working time was about an hour and a half for me. I also took my time draining everything slowly from the old water pump so I didn't lose it all on the floor, so that took another hour of waiting for it to stop dripping.
Can you think of a reason why an 08 FJ engine wouldn’t work in an 05 Tundra? Tundra, 4Runner, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser all we’re equipped with the 4.0 with single VVT-I. I can’t find a 05 or 06 engine for my Tundra because this truck was truck was only produced for 2 years.
Would this be close to the procedure for a 5th gen 4runner? I know they're slightly different, but I think its the same 1GR-FE engine, right? Can't seem to find any good write-ups or videos on accessing the 5th gen thermostat or water pump. Thanks for the video
Probably going to be doing this over the next few days. Is the thermostat check required? I think my water pump is leaking but I havent had any overheating issues. I have an odd noise coming from the engine and it continues without the AC running and with a fairly new alternator Im down to the water pump being the issue
If no over heating issue thermostat would be fine. Take a stethoscope and see of you can put it on the water pump while running to hear of that's the noise
Thanks for the video!! How many miles did this Tacoma have when replacing this water pump? Mine has 511,000 and best replace while it still has no issues.
D Turner funny cuz I had gotten a quote from a local Toyota dealer and they said its 4 hours labor and with parts is $713.50. Why should experienced mechanics take longer? Stealerships... Thanks for the reply bro
@@lh98 Toyota dealership quoted my wife 7 hours labor on hybrid battery for her prius and would cost $5500. I bought one used for $950 and my first time doing a prius battery I finished in 1.5 hours!!! Crazy how bad dealerships screw people
I just did this. When I turned on the engine, I got white smoke from the engine bay, squealing from the serpentine belt, and the coolant remains in the overflow even when the engine is cooled down. I have no idea what I did wrong. I've tried to start the engine several times with the same result. I may need to get it towed.
Coolant in overflow is fine. Did you fill radiator ? Sounds like you spilt coolant all over motor or forgot to hook something up properly. Look for coolant leaks around all hoses
@@dtmxing Possibly punctured the water jacket when I tried to extract the 10 mm mounting bolt. I may have to junk my 2005 Tacoma with about 80K miles on it because of the cost to replace the engine. I had 3 mechanics decline the job so I had to take it to the local Toyota dealer to look at it. So far I'm $1000 just for diagnosing problems.
Wow man . Guess its just bad luck 🎲… I came to the video to see how the thermostat housing is removed... Also to see if there was a method to keep the gasket in place while mounting the water pump... Both of these procedures were skipped... ? ?
