Thank you for showing how to replace the thermostat housing (held on with 5 bolts). This is the best video I've found that shows how to do it. Sucks that you have to remove the radiator fan and shroud to get to it, but now I know. Looking forward to trying this in my attempt to replace knock sensors.

Hey mate...yep an Aussie here. Firstly thanks for your very informative RU-vid clip, it helped and gave me confidence to do the job myself. I have just removed the water pump from my Dad's '09 1grfe hilux that has done only 80,000k''s yep that's roughly only 50,000 miles, it was leaking fairly badly from the weep hole on the W/P. Yes I was surprised too but, 100% one owner and can confirm from factory it has RTF on the long bolts and a slight smear on W/P gasket. So will be doing the same on refit. All the best and keep up the good work. Thanks again mate 👍

That square metal whit 4 bolts where oil leaks is the tensioner for the timing chain.

The RTV Sealent on the end of the 12mm bolts is factory applied. Not a bad idea to clean up and reapply with new pump.

Hey i thought i had a fan clutch issue on my 06 v6 4runner. At idle it really was making an ugly wobbling sound and was coming from the fan. Replaced the clutch and same noise. Took it off again and noticed my water pump pulley has the wobble. Not originating from my fan or clutch but reverberates through it at idle. Dont see any coolant leaks at all and im crazy abt leaks. Should i be worried abt driving at the moment? Would i have catastrophic failure if the pulley gives on me? Im abt to go buy another car and jus want to know if im ok to drive my runner.

I've replaced the belt like 3 times already and before it gets to the shredded part where it quiets down, sounds like a million crickets chirping. Found out.. it's the water pump bearings making it unaligned and shredding. 2009

The little steel door is for the timeing chain tensioner inspection, I didn’t take my radiator shroud out to change my pump. Just drop the fan to the bottom and wrench away. Little tight but not too bad. Also, those 12mm bolts have rtv from factory. Anyway, good job. You have the timeing cover leak just like me. They’re not that bad but it is not worth it to me to fix the timing cover leak. I just keep an eye on it.

@deniseandmarkfirestine7443 I’ve also got a timing cover leak but am just monitoring it. Is there a good way to clean the surrounding areas to get an idea of how much is leaking? I’ve ordered brake parts cleaner but am hearing that is not good to use on the engine.

Thank you for your very helpful explanation of this patients zapping procedure. I am about to get stated. I am having problems getting all the hoses I want to change out all the hoses that come and go to and from the Thermostat housing/Water inlet housing. There are 7 different ones. I got the obvious ones: 2 to the radiator , 2 to the oil cooler, How do you identify the others. The parts houses are no help.

Your oil leak comes from the timing chain cover.. all Tacomas tend to have that issue. You will have to reseal it to fix it.. It's a big job.. but for the looks of it you can do it.
@fishboy3179

Better leave a nut on the clutch so when you bust it loose from the pump it doesnt land in the radiator

I'm going to do this to mine this summer. Yes, I'm going to replace the tensioner and (all the rubber hoses associated) I think it's best to do so. After all, you're in to it this far why not? Then, should be good to go for another 100,000 miles.................right?

So most of what you replaced Is only If you want to replace while down there already right? Because I'm doing a repair for my lotential future mother in law so she can save money and she can't afford the extra parts. The water pump is the only part that's leaking and Is bad.

So about the mileage, I'm just changing one that I bought new in 2005. 224K, water pump is just now starting to seep. As surprising as it may have been, that very well could have been the original you had in your hand
@bundysgarage
@bundysgarage 6 месяцев назад
They will last a long long time especially if you have an OE water pump and run the proper ratio of coolant. The worst thing you could do is run water in a cooling system. It rusts the engine from the inside out.

When is it actually recommended by the manufacturer to replace the actual Tensioner itself?
@docsamson2299
@docsamson2299 2 года назад
My truck is an '09 with just over 200k on it. I had my mechanic put a new tensioner in after I changed my belt and idler pulleys because the holding tab snapped off. I assumed it was on it's way to failure but my mechanic said it was still in good condition. Wish he'd mentioned that BEFORE doing the job! As long as your belt isn't slipping or chirping, I think it's fine and doesn't have a specific replacement recommendation...

How long do water pumps last? I have a 2014 4Runner I got from a dealership a few years back with 68,000 miles on it. I have 81,000 miles on it now. I have had it over 4 years but I don’t drive it much. Where I stay every place I need to go is a few minutes away including my job which is two minutes max driving distance.
@bundysgarage
@bundysgarage Год назад
Your water pump will last forever as long as it’s an original water pump from Toyota and not an aftermarket one someone installed before you got the truck.
