How to change your WiFi channel and avoid neighbor interference 

It's probably from your own accespoint for scanning or mesh purposes. In either case, without traffic going over it, it doesn't matter and in most/all cases those hidden networks are not actively used.

I have a Mac but I would rather use the app I had in the past, because you could actually change the channel on the app. Sadly, it seems to have disappeared without trace…

Kazom xinfinite no sadly it won't. Wi-Fi sends out an actual wavelength and depending on how dense and thick a material is it cannot penetrate through it. In almost all cases it can't even get past a wooden door. However it will go through any cracks, open windows, holes in the wall, etc. Anything with a clear path. You can actually get two routers and just run an Ethernet cable from the upstairs to the downstairs. That'll be your best bet.

@@midwestmonstaz3655 already on the least crowded. Even 5ghz bands is getting crowded. But I'm thinking getting mesh network connected up. it's fine in my living room but go out there and neighbours is as strong or stronger then mine in the bedroom.

Neighboring channels interfere with each other. Not just immediate neighbors either. Channel 6 for example will interfere with channels 5 and 7 and also 4 and 8, and maybe to a lesser degree 3 and 9.

So get as far away from the neighboring channels that are in use, and try to get away from the strong channels that are in use. If the app you are using shows the decibels, like one neighbor is using channel 1 reading -63 dbm at your location, another neighbor is using channel 6 at - 67 dbm, those are stronger signals than a third neighbor using channel 11 at -75 dbm. In that case maybe try channel 9 or 10. Then you might still be fighting/interfering with channel 11, but channel 11 is a "weakling".

Devices on the exact same channel won't interfere with each other, they will talk and cooperate instead. But nearby channels will interfere. So two devices on channel 1 is fine because there will be cooperation, but if one device is on channel 1 and the other is on channel 2, then there will be interference or 'yelling'.

the critic Sadly, sometimes there is no best Channel. The one thing this tutorial forgot to mention was to check the event logs for your wireless router while it is set to Auto for the channel, and take a measure of how often the router says it is needing to change channels due to interference. I have seen cases where a router is switching between channels 1, 6, and 11 multiple times every hour. On top of that, I have yet to see a customer within the three years that I have actually been providing support to customers for internet service that has bothered to update the firmware on their router, or even at least knew that such a thing existed.

Apple sucks/scams you into its own eco-system where as Windows..we are free to upgrade our PC platforms in any way shape or form without any hassle. 99% of hardware & software is written for Windows...when you buy an Apple...its like buying a New car..as soon as you drive off the lot..the depreciation value is drastic...they force you to buy a whole new Machine.
