My 11 pound spool squeaks when feeding wire, I take a old bar of soap and rub it on the internal and external parts of the rotating assembly squeak is gone now I can concentrate on welding.

I blow out the liner with compressed air before loading a new spool. Also, running the wire through a foam earplug before inserting into the drive rollers helps the liner last longer.

Blunt the end of the wire with sand paper prior to feeding it through the torch to prevent the wire slicing through the liner

Double check and verify the tip size matches the wire size. Also check make sure ya got the correct drive roller. And check yer plus & minus connections if you're switching between flux core or gas wire. Just some extra stuff that I try to remember

Fruition Forge great tip and a good habit to get into especially if someone else has used the machine.

Release the drive and feed it back on the spool. Why throw all the wire away?

Thanks for your great vids and content. When I think of the countless hours I have spent farting about with my mug/mug trying to get it right..... I’ve learned more from these vids in the recent binge watch than I did in my first 6 months..!!! The wire tension trick..... if only I had known!!! Keep them coming and the shorter the better! One day (like in 20 years of 1/2hr per week) I hope that I can resemble a couple of your welds.... thanks again from the western/southern end of Australia.

cognitor900 nice mate I’m in Perth just bought my first mig technically multi welder and trying to learn fast, already filled in some rust holes in my Land Rover 110 roof

radaraacf Ah………… the Land Rover repair ride. Sounds like fun. I’m 170km south just 20 mins outside Bunbury. These days I need a running genset to run the welder as we’re on stand alone solar. Not normally a problem except when the chinesium parts poo themselves. Having grizzled about that I must say that I do love all sorts of welding. But I think I will save up for the decent tig welder as that floats my boat but I reckon a good mig does a damn fine job too. Good luck with the landie and thanks for saying hi.

Just bought a MIG welder. Need some tip to set it up quickly. First time wire welder. Old welding machine goes kaput after 20 years. Serve me well. Submerged in flood water. Dried it out , still can work ! TQ anyway ! 👍

thanks , regarding spool gun, i find i get a birds nest , well almost, when i try to feed the wire in. when this happens, likely user error, how can i wind the wire back on so that it spools correctly without getting snagged ? cheers, Frank from down under

At 2:50 ... Hey.. Stupid question, how do you not get zapped when you try to stop the wire with your finger? I'm a bit hesitant to do that. lol

Im not grounded to the welder. It might if you were also holding the ground but it cant complete a circuit without it

Is every mig welder capable of spray transfer? If not how can you tell which ones are? Thanks for putting this out there.
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 6 лет назад
+Jeff Hulett it depends. Spray transfer you usually use a high mix of argon gas and high voltage. It's tricky to say what settings are spray. With aluminum I run pure argon anywhere from 22v on up to even 30v. It basically you need I high voltage and a higher argon content.

How do you get your beads so flat and round? I did a lot of practice today hours just on that I can’t seem to get it right.
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 6 лет назад
If you want it flat try pushing instead of pulling, and turn up the heat until it starts leaving a V shape instead of an O shape then turn it back down a half volt.
@weldingjunkie
@weldingjunkie 6 лет назад
5th Street Fab awesome I always pull that’s why many thanks. Do you do a circle pattern or v while pushing?

Jason I do the cursive e but it's more like a cursive I from the bottom up
