Looks like your generator has a 30Amp socket as well. Would be interesting to test that and see how much faster it is than a standard wall outlet which is maybe 15 or 20 amp.

Why you didn’t use the level 2 cable ? The generator has 240v ? Isn’t?

If you're traveling with a generator, you'll need 5 gal of fuel and a day. NOT ideal.

Thanks for the video and test. I am a deer hunter and was wondering how I could charge a EV in the middle of the woods on a week hunting trip. I guess the answer is you can but would need to run a generator for days in the middle of the woods.

its about what the ratting of the charger is. As long as your socket exceeds the charger then your only limited by the charger. Any single phase socket is 50% inefficient anyway. Once you get into 3 phase territory then you're going to move leaps ahead, but they are expensive. But for a given amount of fuel with 3 phase more of the energy will charge your car than any single phase alternative. An example would be two 7 kw generators, one a single phase and one a 3 phase. and you run them to charge your car. The 3 phase generator will charge your car to a higher level with the same amount of fuel. why is because the load on the generator is smooth with load happening every 120 degrees while a single phase has a load increase every 180 degrees and the load per stroke is higher. Hope this helps people make a decision but if could, i would certainly buy a 3 phase generator.

It would be very useful to know how long that generator would take to charge on 220V. Ford limits the recharge rate significantly on 120V, you can only run at 12A. Just a thought!

invest in 240 plug adapter so you can charge at full capability of this generator which is around 3.5kw instead of charging at only at half that with 110 outlet

Damn, they are ripping out all the electrical at charging stations in some western states and selling the cooper wire. Gangs! I charged my wonderful MDX Acura three row, seven passenger SUV at $2.84 a gallon and the monitor said I have 349 miles to empty and it took me on stop watch, just 7 minutes and 40 seconds. This was in beautiful Hoover, Alabama today. As an author who must go to author tours, book tours and deliver tens of thousands of my books, I still would not like to sit in a hotel waiting for a level 2 charging station to have an open spot and just hoping it even works. Maybe when solid-state batteries and longer range, say 900 miles on a charge and perhaps 500,000 promised level 2 charging stations actually open and work, will this E.V. thing happen in our big beautiful nation that is still number one in gas and oil production. Drill baby drill! Time is money for most of us, who can wait a day for a charge, when a F-150 gas truck can fill up in less than ten minutes, with gas stations on every corner? Go figure!

obviously you should just put a bigger generator in the bed of the truck and drive around stopping at gas stations.

This is a much better setup to power your home instead of connecting the ICE generator directly to your home in a power outage. Use the generator to charge the EV, and then use the EV to power your home. Using an ICE generator to power your home directly is a huge waste of gas.

Minimum generator size required is 10 kva at 40 to 50 amps or larger. To run a home it's minimum of 16 kva

The AC or Generator speed depends on the Amps, if the well charge is 10A will be same speed.

This is not practical but good to know that you can do this in an emergency. How about a Vlog on charging via portable foldable solar panels.

That's not hard to do!!! It's not against the laws of physics!!!! But it takes either GASOLINE or DIESEL FUEL to RUN the generator, depending on what sort of generator you are using!!!! Can you dig that!!!!!?????

You guys are missing the point how much power was the generator putting out Versus how much gasoline it would take the generator to bring it from 50 to 80% are you guys serious.

Charging any ev from a generator is simply ridiculous. Even if you had a 11k generator Charging at its full capacity maybe 10 kwh so to put 50 kwh in your battery it would take well over 5 hours because of the loss converting AC to DC.

complete waste of energy and fuel to charge an ev with a generator. just stick the fuel directly into a gas car. ur wasting so much energy. if it truly an emergency situation its better to have a gas vehicle than an ev.
