Diagonal braces or not?.. it adds massive amounts of strength but are they necessary?

The vast majority of the force from the wing should be Down. Whatever lateral aerodynamic force there may be is canceled out by equivalent force from the other side of the wing... So, the only lateral force you need to counteract is that of the weight of the wing as you whip around a tight corner, and if it is as stiff and strong as you say, then you don't need the extra rod bracing. I love your car. My 2 cents.

I can't believe you actually made the car 10x cooler and its already the coolest mr2s out there! I wish i had a wing like that but i can't afford one lol oh and i vote no rods. No need to add any extra weight😉 and it looks cleaner without them to me

The braces look great and give you a bit more peace of mind. In my opinion it depends on whether you want the wing to look very functional or just for show. Rods=track car built for purpose.

This is inspiring me to make a similar chassis-mounted solution for my BFW (69") on my track MRS that isn't the massive things hanging way out the back that most people do. I like that this is more "hidden" and goes through the body panel, yet is mounted to the chassis! I know you said the mount was custom, and my wing is different than yours, so I'll have to custom make one, but taking lots of inspiration from you, thank you! BTW, what did you use to cut the 8mm aluminum bracket? I want to know if I need to go out and buy a new tool for this project or if I can make do with what I have....

Great video as usual, but have to say that wing is a bit much for my taste. The old one struck about the right proportion balance imo.. but hey, everyone has their preferences! Irrespective of my opinion, I still love this channel. You, sir, provide a great public service!

The braces aren’t necessary for the purposes of this car. The extra rigidity would only really help if you were to be pushing this car round high speed corners. To me, the braces don’t look very good but if you did want the downforce from the wing to really work I’d keep the braces but from the looks of things I wouldn’t think that’s much of a priority. Excellent work on the fitment, really fits the car very well.

Just catching up with the channel. Depends on your personal preference. The rods may make it look more track focused racecar but doubt the lateral loads will be enough to need them.

those rods are going to add a lot of drag. there's a reason why most airplanes dont use support braces - and those that do almost universally make them in an airfoil profile... not tubular.

Looks awesome Lee, how much difference do you notice have a wing? My car needs its coil overs setup properly yet, but the back end feels very skittish. I haven’t got the plastic under tray on at the moment either which seems to affect it.

If you get those rods they will increase drag, thats why double wing planes became obsolete. If it's necessary for structural strength it's necessary though, if it seems fine I guess it's fine. Maybe you could make a tiny cable from the front of the wing to the front of the engine bay. Could look quit cool and help keep the wing in place.

for the first look i can not understand the purpose for mounting the wing at chassis and not at the bonnet because in my opinion first you are loosing space entrance at engine bay and second if its really hapens that you get some extra down force for this it is not worth it because there are other ways to get it ?as ex flat bottom engine placesack canards etc? i dont know i am waiting fo the results.the other think that i am confused is is the cayenne flares .....i thout that they coming with the monocraft luxyry parts but now i am little bit confused?

Why do you want it chassis mounted rather than on the engine lid? (I wouldn't bother with the cross bracing.)

I don't know exactly why he's doing it but I do know if you want a wing to work properly you need to chassis mount it; that's how race cars do it. At high speeds, you want the down-force on the actual chassis, not bending your engine lid or whatever panel you have it attached to.

Marlon Bailey I can't really imagine a home fitted wing with a no use of a wind tunnel ever producing enough downforce to bend/move a metal panel. Maybe if it was on a flimsy fibreglass one?

Lee have you thought about painting the side pieces of the wing red (inside and out) and the top bit keeping that black? Just seen a GT2 RS with this look and a close to identical wing. Looks awesome. Like this instagram.com/p/BfDmo_kjiz9/
