This video is not a tutorial on the second deal. Rather, it’s a case study where I attempt to examine this technique. Even in a 23-minute video, I couldn't fit every topic of interest, so some tidbits (like how to add in a thumb lift, all the different types of marked cards, etc.) had to be omitted. Hopefully, this analysis provides some insights about deception and sleight-of-hand on the whole.

NOTE:
This is NOT meant to be an instructional video on how to cheat at cards or on how to protect yourself from cheating. Don’t watch this video and then try this stuff in a game or think you can’t be cheated. I make these videos for entertainment so that people can more deeply appreciate the craft and the art of sleight-of-hand. If you find this stuff interesting, go check out the work of people like Steve Forte, Jason England, Richard Turner, and Darwin Ortiz. If you want to learn how to protect yourself at the card table, check out “Casino Game Protection,” “Poker Protection,” and “Gambling Protection Series” by Steve Forte, and “Gambling Scams” by Darwin Ortiz.
CREDITS:
The opening demonstration is a performance of “Jacks or Better” by Darwin Ortiz from his book “Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table.”
CHAPTER ONE: I learned the second deal from Jason England’s “Foundations” series, “The Expert at the Card Table” by S.W. Erdnase, and conversations with both Gazzo and Darwin Ortiz.
CHAPTER TWO: I got the idea for this side-by-side clip from a similar sequence in Steve Forte’s “Gambling Protection Series” DVD set.
CHAPTER THREE: These three misconceptions are points of contention among magicians. However, among the sleight-of-hand artists who do the second deal well that I’ve spoken to, there is far less disagreement. I present my own take on these issues from a decade and a half of practice, and certainly welcome any counterarguments.
CHAPTER FOUR: Special thanks to my mysterious friend for permission to use a clip of his hands. Now I feel inferior. Thanks, man. Also, the phrasing of the difference between card cheats and magicians comes from a line in Ricky Jay’s show “Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants.”
CHAPTER FIVE: I learned the one handed second deal and the third deal variants from Steve Forte’s DVD set “Gambling Protection Series,” Darwin Ortiz’s DVD “Darwin Ortiz on Card Cheating,” and Ed Marlo’s “Revolutionary Card Technique.”
CHAPTER SIX: The glimpses I perform are the heel peek and the bubble peek. Both are demonstrated by Steve Forte on his DVD Set “Gambling Protection Series.” I got the idea of using red backed cards amongst a blue deck from a demonstration in Darwin Ortiz’s DVD “Darwin Ortiz on Casino Gambling.”
CHAPTER SEVEN: I learned about using marked cards solely for information from Steve Forte’s “Gambling Sleight of Hand” books and from conversations with my friend from Chapter 4. The final demonstration is an amalgamation of techniques I’ve learned from Gazzo and Darwin Ortiz. The core of the method goes back to Walter Irving Scott. To learn more, read “Phantoms of the Card Table” by David Britland and Gazzo.

Impeccable… my word. At 6:30, Chapter 2, you start dealing so fast I just about fell off my chair. I live this because it’s like you and the cards have a REALLY well rehearsed dance routine. 😭 The meticulous credits alone are an attraction as history lesson; and a glance into the deep history of sneaky devils. I didn’t know those names, but now I do… Amazing. Thank you. More, please. -a new learner

Having knowledge on how it's done arms you against it being done to you, at least to some extent. This is why John Scarne, the WWII superior to "Hoyle" and also one of the most talented card mechanics who ever lived, included "cheating at cards" chapters in his books on card games and wrote articles for magazines on dice cheats, in the hopes that his readers (often soldiers on deployment) wouldn't get swindled as often.

This is roughly the third video of yours I've watched in as many days... brilliant demonstrations of playing your audience, the second dealing of the spades having held that set up to the last cut of the shuffle really got me, nice one. Having been told what you're doing makes it all the more impressive. These videos shows enough for use to just appreciate both the level of practice required not just to handle cards but to control a viewer through body language and tone. It all puts a viewer at ease and covers up any flashes... video slow-mo lets us look closer though and... dammit, no you're still too good!
