I've never seen an "easy trick" actually explained as if you literally didn't know anything about card handling. Good job.

First time I clicked on one of this videos and it was actually easy to learn. Now it's just a matter of training the trick until I can do it consistently
I learned this trick yesterday (April 1st) and I told everyone when I was on the part with all of the cards in the middle that it was “just an April fools joke and it’s not like I can magically make their card appear between the two cards.” And as I said that I pulled the card out and flipped their card over. Everyone’s reaction was great. Their faces went from “I can’t believe I let this guy do an April fools joke on me” to “wait, that’s my card. How did he do that”
Daniel, i knew how to do all of these things before I watched the video, but I’d seen an incredible performance by you in another video, and I was intrigued to see what your take on teaching magic would be. Out of every magic tutorial I’ve seen on RU-vid, this video is the most in-depth and helpful one I’ve ever seen. It does what most don’t, in that there is such a high level of consideration for people that aren’t used to handling a deck of cards. I’m blown away, and you’ve gained a really happy subscriber. I hope the pandemic isn’t treating you too badly mate. Take care!
@@DanielRoyMagic If you have time to create, maybe an in depth on card techniques alone. One technique per video along with it's uses and troubleshooting when learning? You can number them as the order to learn them if starting out on the video title
@@DanielRoyMagic I agree. I am teaching a kid's magic camp this summer for the first time. And I knew I wanted to show a key card routine and I knew I wanted to teach basic card holding and handling but I was unsure how to do that and what things to tell the kids to practice. Your video was extremely helpful and just made me a better teacher! Liked and subscribed!
I just saw this video and I wanted to try, but I only have a UNO deck, so I took out some cards and left 2 reds and 2 blues of each number to make it work. Tried to make the trick to my mom for the first time and I'm happy to say that it worked three times in a row. You, Sir, made my inner child achieve one of its dreams. Congratulations on the easy to learn explanation.
What a great tutorial! Only took me about an hour of practice before I showed it to my wife. As a bonus, the very first time I got the "mind reading" variant and she was completely fooled :D
I decided to pick up card magic again during Covid, as a way to avoid my phone which just makes me angry and sad all the time. This video is easy to follow and you explain everything so well. Thanks for helping me learn some new tricks!
Well done! I do card magic since a few months but never really cared about the basic grips. What I learned is thatt it's more valuable to go deeper in basic techniques instead of learning more complex controls or changes. I love your style of teaching. Hopefully, you're enjoying it and maybe you'll explore new things as well because I think teaching in a way improves the own learning. Greetings from Germany!
*The way you **#explain** and teach ... Goodness gracious ☺️ is just super fantastic for any layman who has **#never** **#touched** a deck !* One day whoever the family or the girl is I Will try to impress them and win them over
A magician who is studying neurobiology I love it! I am in similar field, but know very little about magic; and I love how you relate cognitive fallacy with magic and sleight of hand.
Great video, and really great volume too! Not too loud and not too quiet, just enough for it to be relaxing, without it being an annoying whisper. I know this can seem quite random but It's great.
I have been following you a while and this is a very old video but it just popped up on my feed. Although I know a variation of this, you are not only a great slight of hand magician, you are a very detailed teacher.
Thank you Mr. Daniel, this video is so helpful. I'm a beginner in card tricks and i think i need many helps and tips from a profesional magician, but i couldn't get what i think i need it from other channel and luckily i end up at your video and it was like full pack in just a single video, thank you so much💕💕💕 please keep uploading more. From Mizoram, India
Thank you so much. This Has to be one of the very best tutorials for a magic trick I have ever watched. Proper amount of time was taken to explain and show. The instructions are very clear and the camera angle was good. Great trick. Now I will go practice!
Great explanation and demonstration. We frequently hear people (especially magicians) say that if you know how a trick works, then it ruins the mystery/experience/fun, but I don't feel that way at all. I see magic as another art form, just like music or drawing/painting. Nobody says you can't appreciate music if you know how to play an instrument. Nobody says you can't appreciate Van Gogh's paintings if you yourself can paint well. So it makes no sense when people say you can't appreciate magic tricks if you know how they're performed. For me, the amazing part of any trick is not how it was performed (the method), but rather how it was performed without me noticing it. In other words, what I find most amazing about magic is the skill, the talent, exhibited by the performer. That's why the simplest, least-flashy tricks are always the most amazing.
Thanks for the great instructions, the friction toss is not nearly as tough as it looks when you follow your technique! Looking forward to impressing my niece with this one.
I remember thinking i was so good at magic tricks, until the new kid turned up and we battled tricks. Mine were coins his were cards, when he showed me this i was stumped. I offered to trade tricks on one that worked on him and now this one impresses everyone i show it too. Thanks Canadian Nick
Daniel I subscribed to you after watching what is my favourite performance on Magic Castle and possibly, all time. Thanks so much for this video and sharing your passion with us and being patient and explaining all the concepts as if it was to a beginner which must be hard to somebody so advanced such as you. Thanks again and take care.
Well it looks like your video is a smashing success over here since both my kids (10 and 12) have been practicing this trick in their bedroom for the past half hour with the goal of performing it to their mom tomorrow. Good job, and thanks!
He covered that didn’t he? That’s why you ask “your card wasn’t a red 7 was it?” and if they say yes, you know it wasn’t the key card, so it was the other red 7. Instant win.
This is perfect. I am a coin guy who was afraid of cards sleights and magic, and this is a great trick to read me down the cardboard path. Thanks very much for sharing.
Just spent an hour practicing this trick and then tried it on my family, worked very smoothly! Even if you kinda slow down during steps you're not sure of yet, the audience doesn't know where the trick is and if you keep a straight face you can still perform it. I got positive comments about the full deck joke, too. Thanks for giving me a start on card magic, I've already ordered more on Penguin, haha.
I remember the friction toss from another trick I had learned, fun move for me. I had never done it with 3 cards tho so had me wondering how you do that toss and end up with 3 cards. very cool.
Nice to know that you will have a PhD in neurobiology to fall back on in case you suddenly can’t do magic anymore. Good way to support yourself during grad school! Magic hands in the lab is a great asset too! PhD Montreal Neurological Institute 1995. Great instructional video BTW!
Thank you. That is a good one. I would use the joke at the end as the send off for the deck toss, if you don't mind me saying that. At least for a novice sleight of hander (at best) like I am, it gives me the time and excuse for the card to be seen being manipulated. :: See? Your card is between the two red 7's and slide the bottom 7 out to show, (but use that as the excuse to prep the toss). When they laugh or go sarcastic har de har har. I would say, just kidding, and do the deck toss. If I did the trick by spreading them out and back all in line, I'd have to do the awkward (by a novice at least) pushing the bottom card out for no apparent reason right before the toss sleight of hand. Also, the joke gives me as a novice time to make sure I've got a proper card toss grip.
I practised this and was really pleased with it. But the first time I performed it, I said to my friend, 'I'm just going to remove the black fours. You didn't pick a black four did you?' The response was 'Yes!' I wasn't sure whether to end it there or carry on! I just asked Was it the four of clubs?' (as I knew it wasn't the four of spades). The response was an amazed 'Yes!'
"Show it to your friends and family when the trick's in it's early stages as they tend to be more forgiving." We obviously have a very different family dynamic 🤣
This was such a well made video. I practised the moves whilst on a Skype meeting that I only needed to listen to and was able to perform it for my partner the same evening after only a few hours of practice. I’m obviously nowhere near your speed or as slick as you, but I’m so pleased I managed to get most of the moves working. She guess the joke move before I did it, because that’s my sense of humour, so I did it anyway and then said “but I guess you would be impressed if I could actually do it?” then BAM! Thanks so much, keep up the good work, I’m slowly making my way through your videos and hope to find more like this!
Had great joy watching the video with my deck in hand, pasusing and practicing, thanks for the small tutorial. I mostly get more than 1 cards facing downwards at the friction toss but this is my first magic trick attempt so :D
I’ve been having the same issue this morning but I’ve only been trying about 30 mins or so. I’m guessing I just need slightly less pressure; did you manage it in the end?
Loved the attention to details. So much different from the other tutorials available here. Trully hope you will propose another one soon (without having to wait for another lockdown / pandemy !) Thank you !
Love the trick.. just started with card magic about 6 months ago and this is fairly simple. The hardest part for me is the peeking tbh. I'm still not 100% sure what the audience sees and what not.
So funny story time. I did one practice along with you in real time while you were doing your explanation bit. Everything worked fine. So after you got to your "putting it all together" bit I hit pause & thought I'd have another practice & you'll never guess what happened.? [What are the odds..? 1 in 52 maybe.?] So I blindly chose their card this time, as I checked out what it was during my 1st practice just in case. & then I looked away & stole the peak at our key card which was the 8 of spades & so practicing the interaction too, after I did multiple cuts, I said "we'll go for a middle-ish card 6-7 or 8.., 8s rocket 88 lets have the.., red, no I'm feeling dark, black 8s. Then when I spread the cards guess what I found.? both black 8s together. 😲 So "their" selection was the 8 of clubs. LOL. I guess on the bright side it'll be a while before that happens to me again. I guess if it does happen again, because they can't see the cards, I can "change my mind" back to the red 8s, catch a break in the spread & cut their card to the top or bottom that way. 🤷♂
Be Kr oh cool! I remember you guys, I had a lot of fun performing for you all. I hope all is well for you, and I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy!
