Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Good stuff brother-man! I didnt know for sure if i needed a new spark plug but i did this test, and sure enough i did need a new one. Glad i found you bc you saved me a lot of time and would have even saved me a couple hours more if i found you sooner. I yanked the damn rope out of my chainsaw pulling it so hard, i had to replace the string, fuel, and spark plug. We are good to go now, but again i do appreciate your insight.

Good vid as usual. One additional point about checking for spark. Not only could you set your saw, or any machine, on fire if the plug is over the hole when you turn the engine over, that spray of fuel could be strong and spray out far enough to set YOU on fire, and possibly cause serious injury to your face and eyes if you're closely looking for spark. Happened to me once while working on a two cylinder a long time ago. Checked for spark with the plug safely off to the side of hole, or so I thought. Then rolled the engine over, the plug slid back over the hole and the engine became a flame thrower. Got it right in the face and eyes. All happened in a second. Luckily I just got singed, but that got my attention! Never take anything for granted. Be careful and always wear eye protection. Ya never know.

That is a wonderful tip on how to check for a spark and the precautions also. I have two chainsaws which is difficult to crank and the repairman in the shop cranked the saws, but once I got them home I had a hard time cranking both of them and just purchased a battery saw to use around home, but do need the other two for cutting down two dead trees in my yard and will have to try cranking both once more.

You could also grab some electronics solder, unroll some ten inches from the spool, wrap it tightly around the threads of the spark plug, then wrap it around any bolt, fin or other metal part of the cylinder head, then pull the starter. The plug wont be flopping around and you could use both of your hands to pull the machine over. Later you can wrap the tin solder back on its spool and reuse it later.

Thank you for a simple short video on how to IN PRINCIPALLY check for a spark on a spark plug. Checking the spark plug is a different topic, checking and adjusting the spark device is a different video and not for 5 minutes. I think that DONY will be able to keep within 30 minutes. Look about snowblowers, there DONY talks about a lot (And where you can shove a credit card as well. :))), he never talked about it, because apparently thought that this is understandable. Have a great Day!!!

Awesome video again Dony! Great tips on where to hold the spark plug, but it doesn't hurt that bad when you do it by accident. Sometimes you just don't double-check where you're holding it before you pull it over :) Have a great day! Also maybe you should add Toro to your video description, but it doesn't really matter.

Hey Don, thanks for another dinks to buy for prep-collectors ;-) My Stihl 023 counts herself 31 this summer and doing quite OK. Problem with spark checking is with plastic cover around plug hole (no ground around)! I've solved that problem with SIMPLE GROUND WIRE (green-yellow) connecting common grounding point under starting cover. A hexagonal socket for the plug on the other end I have made from a galvanized strap, soldered nicely together. Spark plug can be checked now without any skin contact.= safety first, easy service - not least. BTW : After use the lead+hex ring can be easy hidden under the front cover without any problem!

A few years back, my Ariens snow blower wouldn't run for more than 5 to 10 minutes. I checked the spark and it was good. I checked everything and ended up putting on a new carburetor and it still wouldn't stay running. I called Ariens and told them everything that I had done and they agreed that I had done everything they could think of. They asked if I had changed the spark plug and I said no but I had a good spark. They said what do you have to lose. I changed the spark plug and two years later it still runs like a champ. I guess that the spark plug wasn't putting out a hot enough spark and after a few minutes it just quit working. Very frustrating!

I have a spark detector. If it lights up blue the spark is fine. If it is any other color or does not go all the way across the tester I replace the coil. Just remember, blue is good and red is dead and yellow in between, my tester has a round window with two test poles. Just plug it into the boot, attach the ground lead to a metal part of the saw and pull it over in low light. Usually, the window looks like a lightening bolt all the way across the window on a good coil. One of the first things I check is to see if the bayonet stake is still connected to the high tension lead. I take my Stihl carb adjustment screwdriver and insert it in the boot and use the tip of it to feel for it. It will feel like you are driving over a cordurary road because it is a wound piece of wire.

@@donyboy73 Donnie, I do not know. It has two test points with a glass window. Got it off eBay a few years ago. Most high energy coils will put blue lightning bolts all the way across the round glass window. It has a ground strap that you connect to the frame or the plug tip. I usually just connect it to the cylinder or bar nuts on my pro saws. I usually take the saw into my shop and turn off the lights. My eyes ain’t what they used to be.
