HOW TO: Chipped Weld Beads (Yes, seriously) 

Night Shift Great Video again! Love it. I think painting shiny parts onto any scale model was „banned „ while weathering evolved during the last decades. People wanted to get away or find a new way of doing things, apart from the Verlinden style . It was and still is a „no no“ in the modeling world nowadays. But painting weld beads is a totally different story . Thanks for showing that, Martin.

Your video's are the reason I started building a panzer 4 my first tank in 20 years been busy building aircraft and sci-fi

Gunnar you totally nailed it!!! Silver and metallic paints are frowned upon mostly as they’re considered a beginner’s choice. But if you use them for the correct task they produce awesome results. That being said, don’t use them to paint tracks, tow cables or tools 😁

Definitely a fun hobby to start doing if you get fed up with a game some time

I am 56 and have been a "Modeler" for most of my life... and you have NO IDEA the Fun and Creativity you are missing?! :D

Well, I'm waiting for a chance to do the "no chipping challenge" Martin and I discussed back during his Ball Tank build. Maybe that would be a good idea...

@@NightShiftScaleModels Yes exactly! Silver was always considered taboo and to honest most modellers just don't know how to use it properly. You've laid it out so perfectly in this video I think everyone who watches will gain a lot more confidence going forward. Great stuff buddy!!

Yep, the BMP-3 is made of aluminium, except the additional bolt-on plates, those are made from steel

@@NightShiftScaleModels Thanks Martin! Gotta keep that in mind for my Arabic BMP-3 that I've got in the stash. Definitely creates a whole new kind of finish compared to the heavy steel vehicles from WWII.

I'm not sure you know what an IS-7 is, but that definitely is not one. The IS-7 never even went into production and had a rounded turret, like all IS designs after the IS-3. Due to boxy shape of this, it is much more likely an early to mid war tank.

This is not the best choice for a first model, Italeri kits are often pretty terrible

@@Cwaluch have to disagree !!! Italeri kit got me hooked on 1/35th. Not all great but thats the same with a lot of manufacturers . Their new stuff is good and with Tamiya probably being one of the best , if not the best manufacturer of model kits around they rebox a lot of Italeri kits and I can't see Tamiya reboxing terrible kits . They don't , I've built a couple and they've fallen together. That's my opinion. We are all different !!! That's what makes us wonderful !!!!! Ha ha ha

@@MottysMilitaryModels Check out Panzermeister36's video on Tamiya/Italeri rebox of P40 tank. It's definitely not Tamiya quality. That being said they are not all bad, but it's more of a gamble than some of the other brands.

Yeh I watched Evans video and I was shocked it wasn't a stug or a dragon kit !!! Ha ha like I said though we all are different with our opinions. See if I was starting out again I would suggest , Italeri , Tamiya Academy as they aren't bad kits and ralitevly easy !! Where as I think when you've been about a bit and got, say , Dragon , Meng , Kinetic etc etc kits under your belt you look back at the Tamiya and Italeri kits etc etc as a little easy and not such great with detail and stuff but I think I'm an odd one out as I still have Tamiya and Takom kits as my joint favourite manufacturers . The new Tamiya kits are fantastic they really are and the latest Kangaroo just released by Italeri is beautiful along with their Jagdpanther with the crew included !!

Lol my first tank ever was actually an Italeri Leopard 1A5 😁 and then my 3rd tank was their Porsche Tiger 1. Some of their kits are not that bad. They have ugly rubber tracks, but a beginner will find them more enjoyable than individual links.

In most cases no. If the bottom is somehow more exposed than usual, then just a good coat of mud and dust. Most of the time I just stipple small amounts of mud around the edges of the tank belly to create an illusion of some weathering being there. Other than that, nobody will ever see that part of your model.

nope, check the reference picture in the pinned comment. or range target tanks. I doubt those were freshly rewelded or climbed over by soldiers

@@NightShiftScaleModels That's an usual weld metal, not normal. You can see its a touch up but some time ago as the paint has rubbed off. How many war time tanks are getting stainless steel welding rods to touch up their cracks.Note the other areas in that picture with original welding: brown. If only steel welds would stay bright then I wouldn't have to paint them.

I’m really no expert on this mate. What you’re saying might be true. I’m replicating what I see in photos - rusted out Centurion, Comet and other british hulks on shooting ranges, completely rotten without any of the original paint, just rust and shiny welds. T-55s in desert scrapyards, same thing. Tanks in museums, modern and old. And then of course operational vehicles, especially noticeable on Soviet tanks from recent conflicts in Ukraine and Syria. Obviously harder to pinpoint in WW2 pictures but if you look close enough it can be sometimes seen.

For frame protection kits check out Invis or RideWrap

😭😭😭 had frame protection (hand cut from 3M tape) and chainslap silencer too, still got those chips. Not even Invis covers weld lines. Oh well, now I got full carbon frame, so no more welds to chip 😅 and obviously completely covered in 3M and electrical tape

I was thinking the same - educational and for the purpose of discussion. I would definately have thought it would come under the fair use policy

Issue is, if (when) RU-vid marks the video as a copyright violation, and you will respond with a counter-claim, RU-vid will usually still take weeks to accept it....by which point the video will have already gotten about 95% of the views it ever will. If ad revenue is the concern, then you won't get back any of the revenue from the time before RU-vid accepted the claim. It will all go to RU-vid or the claimant. And no, you can't sue RU-vid or anything, since this is all part of the terms and conditions you agree to upon uploading your videos. If copyright strikes are the concern, you only need two to have your channel blocked from uploading for a few months. You have to then gamble that RU-vid will accept your counter-claims and that you won't build up too many strikes in the time before RU-vid starts accepting your counters. RU-vid really doesn't care about content creators in the same way it cares about getting in legal trouble, so the rules are quite brutal. Though I did hear they will be changing the claim system soon? Maybe they already did?

@@Panzermeister36 that's fair. I've never really had any issues with photos in videos. It's usually using other people's videos in yours that often get copy right claims. Either way, excellent content! I remember having a music issue in a video I have on another channel get flagged and all I had to do was click "accept" that I was using it in a manner which I was allowed and not infringing on any copy rights.

@@Panzermeister36 i often see the disclaimer about "fair use" in the video description or a few seconds at the start of the video...? would this prevent it being marked for copyright violation in the beginning?

Určite nie šedú, lebo by na tej nemeckej šedej zanikla. Skôr tmavohnedú alebo nejakú jemne hrdzavú ako som použil na tomto tanku. Prípadne továrenskú základovku, tá je tmavočervená.
