Thank you for the great vid. I thought I would've had to buy a brand new board for sliding but it looks I already own one. Looks like the only thing I need to buy are slide gloves.
I'm caught up between getting a regular skateboard kind or a actual longboard type I'm just starting out I'm looking at the kiss of death board but the longer types of skateboards look cool too
Nice. I’ve been thinking alot of running 36” drop deck with gullwings for dh, which is supposedly a stupid idea, i beg to differ. What do you think? Will i still be able to ride at 65-80kph speed without wobbles and still being able to slide?
Tip to any noob. I would go for an Original Freeride 41. Great deck. You are able to run top and bottom mount setups. Run between an 80a and 83a wheel with some Bear or Paris trucks.
The most important thing to remember is that you realistically, can ride pretty much anything, for whatever you want. It's all about personal preference, because your skill and style come from you. However, this dude makes a lot of really good points about board styles. I personally prefer topmounted directional decks, like my Omen Spawn. Great board for all things gnar. Not good for cruising and freestyle, though.
I cant find that Budro Pro anywhere. U guys should an updated video with boards that compare or are similar to these that you currently have in stock. I went to buy 2 of these at your site but they are carried anymore.
Hey Ross, I'm trying to create a mainly freeride setup that will still allow for light downhill and carving, but I can't choose my exact preferences. I've got some ideas narrowed down, but I think I need a pro's advice to help me finalize. Any response would be appreciated!
I'm a beginner and I really enjoy just cruising down a soft slope on my snowboard (not a tricksters) so I went with the first board that you showed in this video. Is it a good fit for learning the basics and balances on a board before taking on some small to medium hills? Haven't received the board yet but it is in the mail. BTW I'm pushing 40 years and was just curious about this idea of using a board for getting around, is it any good for just going to the store and stuff. And I also want to point out that I live on top of a mountain here in Norway. Anyway great job on the video and information.
Any of these boards will be great for learning the basics of balancing and pushing around. Since longboards have a longer wheelbase, you can have a wider stance which will make you more stable than a standard skateboard, and having those big soft wheels helps too with pebbles and sidewalk cracks. Since you live on a mountain, be careful around those hills, you can get going way too fast very quickly. Just get really comfortable with riding and pushing before trying any mellow hills and you should be fine! Good luck and have fun! Cheers! - Tim
So how is the Original drop freeride W concave rate, when top mounted, for sliding? Also is there a board that is better for the hands down slides as those are my favorites.
***** Hey, what are your opinions on the S9 Slick Shoes? I just got the wheels in and I want to know if their slippery so I can hold out long standies. How would you compare them to something like a Blood Orange Pro wheel? Are they more slippery than that? :)
hey I just started long boarding and I did not have much experience so I was stupid and bought a kryptonex board from Walmart and it has lasted but it is still just a bad board and I plan on getting a Landyatz board I have loved the reviews on them but I love the view
Is the sector 9 eyedropper and dropper the same thing? I'm getting the abec 11 72mm 81a wheels is that good for a little downhill and cruising smoothly?
Hey Ross I'm looking at getting a new longboard and I wanted some advice on what to get. Im currently looking at the downhill division boards but I cant decide between the arrow, javelin and hijack. Please help
main cost 100€ and its perfect 👌 so the trucks were cheap D-Street 165mm Trucks 21€ Mindless Haraka 75mm Limited edition 40€ Deck i made myself so... Plywood 20€ Lacqour 10€ Griptape 5€ (And i made 2decks with those supplies) Np
Hey man is your longboard still good this days?can I have it I just broke my longboard today and im so broke to buy 1 I am still 17y.o for me to work 😔.
+Nathan Jensen www.sector9.com/shop/product/downhill-division/dojo-dhd-complete?color=AST if that doesn't work just search sector nine and go to website and go to there downhill division lineup
willyamacaronie if you're planning on freeriding and or doing downhill for trucks id go with calibers they don't feel that great at slow speeds because they're restrictive but once you get going down a hill and start sliding they feel amazing . another good set of trucks are bears because you can flip the hanger and get a different feel if you're planning on cruising or downhilling i personally like them a little more than calibers just because of how light then are so for all around riding bears feel alot better.
Hey I know I'm a little late commenting on this video but I wanted to know if this board would be an okay size for me I'm 5"2 13 and am looking into a double drop punisher that is 40" would I be able to cruise around on this fairly easy? Would I have good control of the board due to how long it is compared to my size. Thanks👍🏿❤️
A 40 inch is great for you it’s probably one of the most convenient sizes, a kinda “one size fits all” if you will. But I’d look at a size chart if your still not sure. (Yes they have those)
someone can answer me, I'm new in this board I practice alone because I don't know anyone who practices in my zone, can I do slides on a deck which measure 48 inches?
hey ross, i have a question about the sector 9 mini daisy. what wheelbase do you prefer to ride it for freeride? mine is at 25" i believe (the bigger in the front and smaller in the tail) and i'm having a lot of trouble breaking into slides on it. do you think that shortening my wheelbase to 24.5 will help? i'm riding mine on gullwing charger IIs with venom barrels 90a (flat washers roadside) and some old abec 11 flashbacks. also i tend to have more trouble breaking into heelside slides on it for some reason...
im not ross but the wheelbase you have right now should be fine i have the bustin shrike with a 25" wheelbase but you can try moving it and see which one feels better.
The first board with the drop that you displayed here you mentioned it wouldn't be able to grip as well to hit corners. Is that due to the drop through mount or because of the wheel you would be using for a freeride board? Also I am 5'10 weighing 200. Would the board hit the ground when making hard turns?
Sounds good! So would a drop through mount create pressure cracks in time? A myth I heard about by one person that I don't know on the web. Never heard of that before, but I would consider myself heavier of a rider compared to all my lighter friends and was concerned.
Okay perfect! Good information. Last question so i ain't bothering at this point... Will a top mount deck with a drop down be just as good and low for freeriding as a drop through with a flat deck? I know the turning will grip more for tighter turns as you mentioned. I just want a board that fits what I like and I'm new to long boards. I've grown up with the usual commercial skating. I don't want a long board that resembles a regular board though. I like the absence of wood around the wheels for long boards.
whenever i try to do a stand up slide i get sideways then my boardstops instead of holding out the slide, or i do a 180. i dont know what i'm doing wrong can someone please help?
I'm about a intermediate street skater and I can power slide ok on those types of boards and I want to try out long boarding just because of how dope those downhill slides look. The problem is I don't know what board to buy. I've ridden a arbor board I couldn't tell if it was freeride board or not but I found that it was suppeeerrr hard to powerslide. I kinda wanted a board that was easy to powerslide. The OTHER problem is that I also get speed wobles pretty easily even on that board I was using so I'm kinda torn on what I should get. THE THINGS I KNOW ARE: I want to be able to slide. I cant go above $225 (thats not that hard I made a pretty good one I thought on amazon for $160). I don't mind building it myself I actually enjoy setting up boards but it all depends on if a complete is less expensive. Please help someone if not tactics. HELP HELP HELP HELP SOSO READ ABOVE.
Hey something I would recommend is a globe geminon deck, you can find a good price for them, though flex might be a small issue if you weigh 150 or more or you could try your deck and maybe even sector 9 meridian As for trucks get caliber 50, there great for downhill, freeride and are pretty stiff. There are a lot of wheels to choose from but I would recommend the cloudride Slusheez or Iceez for the price and how fun they are, the sector 9 butterballs for there centerset core (allows you to flip the wheels around when they wear down), or the Santa Cruz Slimeballs because they feel like a softer skate wheel. And finally for Bearings I’d recommend zealous because even though they take awhile to break in they are lighting fast when there broken in plus they’re tough, don’t require spacers or washers and are easy to maintain. If your looking for a complete the sector 9 meridian complete is great (fits your budget and is well built) Hope this helps and stay safe.
can anyone just list me some decent double kick ferried decks please? any advice is really appreciated. Also what do you think of the apex 40 diamond drop 2015?
That's the Sector 9 Downhill Division Dojo 34.75 inch deck. It's about 4 years old so they probably don't make that graphic anymore so you'll have to do some searching.
***** Im just beginning sliding i can do colemans stinkbugs. Stand up 180 speedchecks and working on switch standups. Im debating on whether i should get the barge or dojo. Any idea what would be better for me?
***** i also have another question. Im getting the sector nine butterballs also but i dont know what ssize to get 65mm or 70mm. Im currently riding 70mm stimulus.
***** ok thanks for all of your help! Couldn't have gotten better responses from anyone else. Thanks for your time. Lastly is it possible that a wheel at 65mm could be to small for a board? Or is it all based off of preferences?
+Die Butterbanane i cannot tell u.....but till its landyachtz and says freeride it would be amazing ......i think ur a new guy so probably start with a cruiser which is versatile enough to slide like sector p revolver.....best kind of longboard for beginner is freestyle longboard.....check out loaded kanthaka....peace
LacrosseMaster 2015 I'd go with the original free ride 38 that's thr board i learned to slide on that and the landyachtz 9 two 5 are really good for learning how to slide and progressing your skill.
I have a evo from landyachtz and I ride a lot of downhill. I found the 40 inch apex to suit me for freeride. I got the freeride 38 and it's way easier to slide on.
