How to choose a propeller guard? 

Just got mine in the mail. I have to say how impressed I am at the obvious excellent build quality; Finished right down to the decals. We do a lot of trolling on the west coast of BC and these prop guards are so important for our downrigger lines. This one (11") is going on our new 15 HP Merc pro remote. Our last one was on a Yamaha 9.9. Saved us countless times; thanks!

After using my Adventure Marine 17" prop guard on a 150 hp Yamaha outboard for the past month, I have some observations: 1) I seem to get better fuel efficiency because I can raise the jack plate another 2" on my 24' pontoon boat. That means 2" less draft as well. 2) Also, tight turns are really tight as there is no side slip at high speed. 3) Reverse maneuvering is exceptional as it turns the prop into a turbine drive. Yesterday, I cruised with a couple dolphins while in reverse with complete control and no sideways crabbing. 4) Docking is much easier. 5) The new installation seems the keep the boat on course without having to adjust steerage. Almost like having a mechanical auto-pilot. I bought this guard to help protect manatees in the Keys. But, it does so much more...

Very informative, i'm looking into these lineguards for my scout group. We hear that you get more thrust from them, which is something we're looking for since we often tow our sailingboats to the lakes where we can sail. Would this be something that could help us get more towing power? Would love to hear from you, cheers!

Will this guard help prevent moss and other debris from getting caught up in the prop. I just bought a house on a canal that has underwater debris (mostly Spanish moss) that gets caught up in the propeller. Looking for a fix. TIA

3 to 4 percent drop in performance, does this apply both to the line and safety guard or does it apply only to the safety guard?

What you say is not correct,, reduce the diameter, close the holes and you will have more speed on the engine,, the power does not go to the sides but instead straight back :-)The information comes from Österbybruk (Sweden), which manufactures jet modules for incredibly large ships,, and small ones,,
