Thank you! I switched from OFF++ Donic Ovtcharov CarboSpeed to DEF Yasaka Sweden Defensive and noticed the difference in spin and control right away. Im an offensive player and I use Donic Bluefire M1 in forehand and Bluefire M2 in backhand.

Hello.I'm very happy with the conclusion of this video, as I know now that I have a very good combination of blade and rubbers after 2 expensive mistakes, and its paying off in my training sessions and in matches. For those asking what are the benefits of flexible blades I will grab the definition of ttdb: Flexible Blades have a longer dwell time, generating more spin, they also perform well for mid distance looping, stiff blades are better for smashing and blocking, also stiff blades are in general more fast than flexible blades. For those asking what is a flexible blade: its a blade that is capable of "certain degree of bent during a full motion stroke" (imagine a bamboo tree), in contrast, stiff blades don't bent. My first blade, was a fast OFF blade - medium stiffness - and fast euro rubbers: Nittaku Acoustic Carbon Inner + Tibhar Evolution MX-S for FH and El-S for BH My second blade was a faster OFF+ blade - medium hard stiffness - and fast euro rubbers: Andro Treiber Z + Tibhar Evolution MX-P for BG and Donic Bluefire JP03 on FH They where both very nice and expensive blades, but i was loosing to much control and consistency on my strokes, those blades where not for my level, they where too fast, and my technique was stuck, this was also confirmed by my coach. I began the search for a nice blade, this time, I read a lot and saw a lot of videos, and make a lot of investigation on ttdb (You can compare the level of stiffness of a blade there and many more attributes like speed material hardness), and wrote a pair of forum topics here and there asking for advice. I also ask for advice to many coaches, including EmRat Tich (he replied by the way), and thought a lot in what i wanted... I want to develop a two winged looping - aggressive style with excellent technique like chinese players (I can only hope jajajaja). After many research i came to this conclusion: I needed a Flexible blade in the off- category with a medium hard wood on the outer plies + hard tacky Chinese rubbers, i needed an all wood blade then, as composite blades are stiffer. This would force me to correct my technique, and develop good full motion strokes, and would give me the control that i was lacking close to the table and on loops(due to the tackiness), so my third expensive blade is: A nittaku Violin with DHS hurricane 3 neo on BH and a DHS Skyline 3 neo on the FH, and its all I was dreaming it to be, after a month of training with it, I am a better player now (I'm still at intermediate level though jajaja), I sold my other blades and never looked back, playing with this set its a marvel, and my couch is very happy, thought more advanced players than me, told me that it is slow. I think this is because they are so much used to euro stile rubbers like tenergy that they became lazy to put their own energy on the ball, letting the rubbers to do all the job. If you are looking for a set that suits EmRat Tich descriptions, and want to develop an aggressive stile like chines ones, I would recommend this set( If you are more onto defending, smashing or chopping and want to keep going on that, don't buy a flexible blade by any means), if the Violin is too expensive for you, you can choose another flexible blades like Xiom Offensive S or Butterfly Primorac (Both of them are off-) and are much more cheaper, and if you want tacky rubbers more cheap than DHS ones, you can search for Friendship 729 or another brands Sorry for the long post, thanks for your advice EmRat Tich

Of course, many of you can topspin with Donic F3. I don't mean that you can't topspin with very soft rubber. But for a new player, using too soft rubber is not good. Hi, thanks to you I am using now Stiga Allround Evolution (ALL+) with Hurricane III Neo on forehand and Acuda S3 on Backhand and I love my setup.

revisiting this video 2 years later, I have few things to add on. The main difference is that hard rubber requires a lot of effort to do the shots with very little margin of error, while soft rubber is easy to use with a high margin of error. So yes I agree that using hard rubber is more beneficial to develop beginners techniques, but during matches, it is really easy to make a mistake if the technique is slightly wrong or when the player is out of position. At the beginner level, I'm sure most people would agree that using a rubber that can land everything easily would be a lot more fun. So to introduce beginners into the sport, stopping them from quitting the sport is the no. 1 priority. I would say first letting them have a soft rubber to have some fun, once they have the confidence to land their shots and got into the sport, let them switch to hard rubber to properly develop their techniques.

Thanks coach i have followed your advice and i stop to play with hard Ma Lin carbon blade + tenergy for a new setup, Stiga allround evo + dignics. Blade is flexible and full of control, and dignics are harder so more linear and optimise kick effect. It's more precise and powerfull. Thanks. Regards Wilfrid.

I 100% agree with the 4 types of combinations. I played a hard Chinese rubber on a hard and fast blade. It is nice to play but everything needs to be super precise and you need a lot of power to keep every attack strong. I was playing around with a very fast and hard European rubber on a defensive blade (LP on backhand) and this was MUCH more enjoyable. Looping is easy from anywhere and killershots are still strong. Too fast blade is not good!

Lots of people including myself have asked for examples of blades and rubbers so I went back to read the equipment videos emratthich has done on blades and rubbers. He has mentioned a few blades and rubbers and also gives data so you can understand how to choose yourself. This is very long but I hope it is valuable for you. As you can see he has answered this question many times in many ways. Best of luck to you. In his video "Understand Table Tennis Equipment. Choose best paddle and rubber." EmRatThich says this.. "So, if you are a progressing player, who wants to learn table tennis as fast as possible, the best blade for you is the Allround, Allround + all wood blade. It has the best feeling, and helps you improve your table tennis techniques to spin the ball." For amateur table tennis player." "Western players change equipment too much. The rule of thumb is that you need at least 6 months to feel your blade." "Focus more on your technique and tactics and you will improve several notes? He also mentions off- as being acceptable later in this video. He also says in this video that you only go to a faster blade only after you can consistently hit 4 out of 5 full hard loops in and you feel in great control but just need more speed to kill the point. Before buying new blade buy faster rubber and if have the same consistency as before and you still want more speed then upgrade to the next level faster blade. In his video "Secret of Table Tennis in China and Tacky Rubber" he says Stiga Allround Classic ALL and it "shouldn't be too stiff or too soft". He also says "no carbon blades or super fast blades". First, practice more (technique) second is to use tensor rubber" He also says in this video that many Chinese commercial provincial and national rubbers are fake" so buy only from reputable source. Later he says all the National is fake as players do not sell the rubbers they are given. The commercial rubbers are just tuned and then packaged as National Blue Sponge for example. Later Gojko comments "I use chinese TT rubbers since 1982. From old Friendship 729 over DHS PF 4 to these days with Globe 999. I'm very satisfied and I never will change them. It's individual. The point is just find right combination of sponge hardness and elasticity. Upper layer is always same with superb stickiness and longevity. EmRatThich responds to this question "Yes, I found the same conclusion with you. The point is just find a right sponge hardness and elasticity." In later post EmRatThich says... My forehand is very dominant and I want a rubber with a very hard sponge and tacky surface for a very "clear and direct" feeling and to create a lot of Power myself (Not from the rubber or blade). So I thought this rubber fits very well for me ... but how can I get a hand on this really "original" and not european modified rubber? EmRatThich responds.."Cool. So you want to generate the force from your body. Just take a cheap Chinese rubber, find some rubber from LKT and 729. The rubber of DHS has been modified, and lost the true feeling of chinese rubber. DHS rubber varies from pack to pack and less consistent." Another subscriber comments... "I am going to buy new rubbers for forehand and backhand. Do you have any suggestions? I am a forehand dominant player who likes to block with backhand. EmRatThich responds.."It depends also of your blade. Find a good setup can take time. For your FH, you can try several medium hard rubber on the market, yasaka rakza 7 is a safe choice."

I want to learn how to stroke and hit the ball like MaLong and WangLiqin. I have H3 blue sponge, and have 3 different blades: W6, stiga clipper, and 729 bomb. These blades all feel hard withlittle flex... I was thinking of getting either the Yasaka Sweden Extra (more flexible and slower than violin according to ttdb) or getting a Nittaku Violin. great channel i watched a lot of your videos, i am playing again after 8 years being out of the table tennis scene. i used to use a donic wandler iniciation blade with DHS G666 rubbers, it feels very confortable for me, now im using a donic wandler senso carbon v1 with donic acuda blue p2 rubbers and im very impress, i can control my forehand pretty well and its very fast and im very happy with the combination, but i have a lot of problem with my backhand cause i have not learn the technnique properly, im not able to control the speed. So im thinking in 2 options, one is replace the backhand rubber with the DHS G666 to learn the technique or change both sides to learn first before playing with the acuda blue p2 rubbers. Thank You!

But is it okay if share us your specific recommendations of what you think are best examples of combo of a flexible blade and a hard rubber. The reason I asked is that I think even of some blades have the same composition, not all of these blades perform the same. Same with rubbers, not all rubbers of the same degree will perform the same. So for example, is dhs pg7 a good example of a flexible blade or stiga infinity or the other all wood blades. Or in the case of rubbers, are those commercial version of H3 neo good to start with? What are your specific recommendations?

I just started table tennis this year in PENHOLD and took this setup: Blade: Neottec Revolution OFF (around 7 mm thickness / Speed: 89/100 - Control: 54/100) Forehand rubber: Skyline TG3 (2.2 mm) Bachand: KTL Rapid Sound (2.0mm) I've some issues in developping my forehand topspin (that is not consistent..); if you have any advices it could be great!

I quit table tennis in 2017 but back when I played I lived in China for 2 years and played on the streets, on stone tables and all types of different places. I called it “street table tennis”. Anything went in that, any type of ball, rubber, whatever. One girl was using two rackets at the same time, in each hand. I started collecting obscure blades and rubbers, mixing and matching them, long pips on one side, short on the other, etc. It was fun. I still have a container full of hundreds of rubbers and tons of blades. Some I bought in Bali after I moved but continued to play.

Hi Coach, I like your videos very much and I learned a lot from watching them. Now, I would like to know your opinion on my current setup. I've been playing for around a year now but I was using a fast blade ( Yinhe T-11) which made my strokes incomplete as you taught in your videos. Now, I plan to start all over using a proper beginner paddle. As such, I bought this setup. Donic Appelgren Allplay 2 yasaka mark v 1.5mm Here are few inquiries. 1. Nice video. let me tell you my experience. I just can train 2 days per week and the practice is not enough, as a beginner I decided get a Zhang Jike blade (off++) and a rakza 7 soft on both sides. recently I improve my game making more shadow, exercise to fasten my arms, but I believe that my best improve was changing my diet, my coach always gives me 6 advantage points, last day i won 2 out of 3, I think he will give me less advantage LOL

Hello Coach @EmRatThich : I am avid follower of your video tutorials and always lookout for your tips and suggestions to improve the technique. On your advise on understanding my game and choosing right setup. I am moving from begineer to an intermediate stage. All this while i played with local stag prebuilt racket and often had issues controlling. I've gone ahead and bought : Stiga Allround Classic with , Tibhar Evolution MX-P (red/black) . so my understanding was this blade gives me good feel and awesome control but not much speed. To compensate i've got the Tibhar evolution mx-p which is not too soft a medium hard rubber but gives me that speed i lack from blade. I guess my understanding of the setup is correct and my playing style is offensive. I would appreciate your feedback and any suggestions you may have.

Hi Coach Emratthich, I'm looking to get a new blade. Can you recommend a flexible one for me? I was thinking of Stiga Allround Classic, Stiga Offensive Classic, or Stiga Clipper Wood. I'm reading conflicting reviews about which one of these blades are more flexible. I will be using Hurricane 8 Hard on my forehand and Hurricane 3-50 (soft) on the backhand.

Hi coach ! Thanks for this video which made me thinking about my setup. I have a customized asian setup as I have soft blade and hard Rubbers. But it's a carbon blade. So what do you think about this : you do not recommend using carbon blade but I have a better control with a off+ carbon soft blade than using à traditional blade made with wood. Hey i'm new to ping pong got a table for Christmas and have been progressing a lot really fast and want to get my own paddle. My strengths are forearm power shots and backhand curves. Ive been playing atleast 2 hours every day. So I was wondering what paddle I should get I wanna keep it under $200. My grip is Shakehand. So whatever u recommend like what do pros use? and what sponge?

I am an intermediate/progressing player who is still learning the correct techniques and I would like your suggestion on a good racket set-up. please suggest me good blade and rubbers for forehand and backhand... I am a backhand dominant player who plays close to table and mid-distance. I have a attacking game. After watching your videos I went back to a very old Stiga pre-made 20 dollar bat and found that it gave me great control and feeling. It was very light and had a small dimensions(small i size) so I was able to switch between FH and BH easily which made me feel that the bat was an extension of my arm. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello, thank you for videos! Can you pls advise concrete equipment for me :) I play table tennis for 6 months with Butterfly primorac off & butterfly flextra on both sides. I have really bad spin and slow balls. Also it's hard to control a ball and keep it on a table during training. I have a coach who provide me with some basic technics, but I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Maybe downgrade from off blade and a hard rubber will help me progress faster. My playstyle is: returning a ball passively is possible (hit it back when I'm forced) and wait an opportunity for topspin. Sometimes I can answer topspin to topspin. can you please suggest some cheap equipment set for a beginner like me? thank you much!

I love that the advice in this video is true. I got my first custom racket in October 2018. It is a all+ blade with medium hardness rubbers. I can feel the spin of my opponent as well as generate a lot of spin. When those rubbers get worn out, I will purchase hard rubber for forehand and medium to medium-hard on backhand. Love your advices, I'm starting to develop a very powerful backhand and forehand attacking style, thanks to you. The #1 Coach in the world 🏓

Hi coach I want to ask a question I am using a cheap chinese blade and rubber, but still a standard one to play with Blade: Yinhe N6s Rubber FH & BH: Yinhe Mercury II - Medium hardness, Max sponge thickness Is it good for learning and building habit to play like how chinese players? European players like me, favor curved trajectory, we can use it to take the ball late and tensor rubbers are less tiring, they don't require extreme power. I've used the h3 neo for a year, it helped me build my tecknique, but now going back to the tenergy I'm better than ever, more relaxed, spinny, fast, precise, and I don't get tired on the 2nd set, and I had the h3 on a viscaria, it was still slower than death... But the high arc made it up for me, and made the transition easy.
