I have a story for everybody here: I am a photography aficionado, I took 3 semesters of photography at university and after many years I realized that all I learned in those 14 months, I could have learned it in 1 or 2. I would have liked to have a better teacher, he was definitely bad in teaching. Now I check for tips in different websites and I have learned much more and I wouldn't mind somebody telling me I had a bad teacher because it is the truth. So, coach EmRatThich you keep making your videos THE WAY YOU LIKE, include as many anecdotes, experience, jokes or comments that you feel you have to include, it is your style, you are never disrespectful, you never put anyone down, you never mention names or negatively criticize anybody. Since the very beginning you have explained that you teach the Chinese system and obviously you believe this is the best one, whoever who disagree has many other choices online! You do this for free and you do it with passion, you have a personality and a specific cultural background (just as everybody else), so please, do not apologize for expressing yourself the way you are, do not apologize because you are doing a great job, you are offering a service! Thank you and congratulations for your channel. Merci, félicitations et bon courage.

I am watching this channel for about two years now. The knowledge presented here helped me to develop my game and to become a much better player. Grip, timing, body movement, new trend in table tennis, footwork and "in pai" - all tremendously helpful. I even started to better understand the rubber "game" and thanks to the video on rubber and boosters (and the "new trend in table tennis" video) I am now using a hard, sticky Chinese rubber which is quite the exact opposite of what my fellow club members are using (factory boosted tensor rubbers). EmRat Thich is my #1 source for table tennis wisdom!

With all due respect to all subscribers to this channel but I have a strong feeling that some people are really exaggerating on their criticism. I really think that some people are trying their best to stop the table tennis lessons on this channel with no obvious reasons. So please whatever you're doing just stop it. You can't at least insult my intelligence. You are being too harsh with no obvious reason. You are deliberately making a great deal of almost nothing. I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but enough is enough. Let the man do what he loves the way he likes. What I'm talking about here has name and that is Freedom of expression and freedom of speech. If you don't like this channel just unsubscribe and ignore the whole thing. Enough with your headache. Show some respect to the man and his work and to all the rest of us too.

Your videos have made my New Year very Happy! Thank you for your great videos! I am benefitting as I help run a small club in Pennsylvania, USA and there is no one to coach us and we have learned to play without proper technique. Your videos are a gold mine. Not only am I enthused to use them for myself, but they give me confidence to show the best way to play to those who have less experience. I have even emailed out your links to others. So all your hard work and time invested is well worth it to people around the world! I wonder if the people of China are upset that you may help the rest of the world catch up. Ha Ha! As far as your question, I think it is good to compare other coaching methods if they are not the best. It helps me.

Dear coach Emratthich, you’re such a great coach. The more I play, the more I realize and discover that your lessons are so true and worthy. After I applied this lesson (correct bat grip), my forehand attack has drastically increased its consistency and speed. You’re truly a great promoter of table tennis. Hope you’ll keep inspiring us this way. My best wishes for your future endeavors🏓😍🙏.

EMT to hold the paddle mostly with the thumb and index is the best tip someone has gave me, none of my coaches had taught me that. Last month I sprain my wrist performing a backhand loop and though that would kill my table tennis career, but I've been using this technique and feel more confident to perform powerful backhand strokes again. Don't stop making videos, they're very helpful for all level players.

man, you defiantly should continue. if a coach really wants to improve his player then one would never be hurt by your videos.. a good coach should always open to suggestions, so it would be ridiculous of you stop making your videos because of this issue.. by the way, you are really doing a great job, so I would definitely like to watch your videos in future.. good job.

P.S.Большое спасибо!

It's ok to talk about proper coaching, to show different ways of coaching and making statements about good coaching and bad coaching. However, I would be careful making general statements. These days, club coaches and national coaches in the western world often know about Chinese philosophy and have learnt to apply most of these things in their coaching too. There will still be occasional wrong teaching but in general they have caught up in terms of basic to intermediate knowledge. There still may be expert knowledge, cutting edge developments in the Chinese coaching that we don't know about (relax-explode-relax / minor adjustments / play even more from the legs). This is the main reason I come to your channel, so please keep it up!

Btw you are not hurting anybody you are helping by giving me options that I did not know about. The coach that I took a lesson from teaches me what he knows which is great but it seems chinese ways and philosophies on playing table tennis are different in some ways and I would like to have this knowledge so I can decide which philosophies I prefer and your videos give me that knowledge which gives me options. Thanks👍

That's the best way to hold the bat. I agree. I've been playing tennis since my early childhood. And I've always held the bat this way. Now I'm coaching several kids. Exactly, don't stop. What you are doing is so generous on your behalf, having to sacrifice so much of your time to provide others with this free educational content is worthy of gratitude and not criticism!! Alot of your videos reference Chinese philosophy and the proper way to play based on that, some people can't accept that so I would just ignore such comments. It's evident that Chinese are the best players in the world and have been for a very long time, this just shows that they are doing something properly! Thank you for your videos and I hope more people can be more appreciative toward you!!

great video and great tips on holding the bat correctly. Helped me greatly to just have one simple grip for every single stroke. Last time I used to hold a bit too much using group 1 and had to change the grip and bat angle very slightly for Forehand and backhand which made it slow, imprecise, and difficult to do some shots especially the backhand topspin or sidespin flick and forehand topspin an underspin ball. Now using primarily group 2 just one grip for every type of stroke.

Nice to meet you too! I'm from Brazil. Thinking of changing my grip. I've been playing as a penholder for a while, but sometimes I feel like I should switch to shakehand. I feel very comfortable with the backhand shots when I try a shakehand grip, however I still need to improve my shakehand forehand a lot. That's why I'm still unsure about switching over. Hey Emrathich, happy new year first :) About hurting others i guess the intention is the most important. Because you know that even coaches do many mistakes and you know which mistakes they do it is totally good to show us those. Since the mistakes comes from coaches it is crucial to fix the error. Otherwise many player will still follow the wrong advices. Changing things will always "hurt" someone but in this case it is totally worth it.

There is already to much propagation of incorrect information in the west for this sport, don't listen to any naysayers. Please look at my question, in your tensor vs Chinese rubber comments. In short I asked if Rakza x you can still learn proper technique as these rubbers are much harder than tenergy.

thks for your vid, my backhand improved amazingly just in one day and similarly my serves get better (both backhand and forhand serves). The only remaining point is the transition between BH and FH somewhat awkward, maybe need more time to get used to with the change of grip. (formerly i used backhand dominated grip, however, the new grip helps me release more power from wrist with less effort, what a pleasant surprise!) Of courrse the overall performance is not as good as usual due to the change of feeling, but most of them come from the abundant of power which can be adjusted easily within one or two weeks. super thanks to you!

Hi Coach Happy New Year No one can ever make everyone happy. There will always be some people who will disagree with you. Most people benefit from seeing the incorrect technique, followed by the correct one. It is one of the fastest and most effective ways to learn something new or to correct an old mistake. Every action is based upon intention. You intend to teach, others should understand and be open to new ideas. They must humble themselves and be willing to learn from anyone. Thanks

Thanks a lot for your videos sir, very helpful when I apply it on table. I am trying to change my grip for 3yrs but never succeeded. can u give me some more tips to correct grip. I find it difficult to handle the ball during backhand to forehand transition. I am able to move for the ball reach properly but due to bad grip the ball in many instance hits the edge of the bat.

EmRatThich, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Your videos really explain things clearly and most importantly effectively. Keep doing what you are doing. However, please make sure you have time for your family. Take a break from time to time. Have a Happy New Year and thanks again.

Takes me a session to switch to the compact grip. And oh my, my wrist feels more responsive and relax. My stokes become more accurate.and powerful, which improves my confident. My playing partner was surprised and he can see the immediate improvement. He asked me what did I change? I just smile and told him to watched you videos. Thanks again.

The grip is indeed very important aspect of the game: no proper grip - no proper game. And until now I also was holding the bat wrong the entire time! It's like my whole table tennis life was a lie. I play for 3 years and wonder why I haven't improved so much, but here I am now, just amazed by how correcting one aspect of the game and doing it properly can level up your game several times. All thanks to you!

its funny that the very first time I tried the finger hold exercise my wrist made a cracking noise by rotating it and pressuring the bottom 3 finger while i didn't do that with the thumb and pointing finger. It shows the legitamacy of your advice. I did hold it the right way before since you explained the flare handle blade video wich really helped to improve putting extra power and spin on the ball. Thank you!

Thank you, Coach, for your video tips! I'm trying to follow your advice on all wood blade and hard rubber combination. Could you tell me which rubbers and blades you can recommend that are inexpensive yet good enough for a beginning to intermediate shake hander? I live in Los Angeles area. Thank you! Gene
