You’re actually a beautiful colour palette yourself in this video!😍 The beautiful blue cardigan against your red hair and dark green top, perfect! I learnt the hard way too and used to use ALL the bright colours in my work. My work’s still very colourful but they’re much more balanced these days. I really enjoyed watching this, thanks Kriksis.x
I can’t tell you how useful this is! There’s been times where the line art came out so good but because I chose wrong coloring, it took away from the end result rather than added to it
I can’t stay with one color palette. I get bored very easily and I want to use whatever I want. I try to do little palettes full of stuff I like because colors mean a lot but how I use any color is the same. I just really like all types of colors and designs and they work for different characters and designs. Your advice is very helpful though and great overall.
Hi Kriksis, I know that bright colors aren't something you are particularly drawn to, but I do really like your little neon Riso print dragons. It would be interesting to watch you draw or paint a dragon with a color palette that you feel more comfortable with.
Thank you, this was an eye opening video. I looked back at my latest sketchbook and it made me so much more aware of the colours I am drawn to. My palette is very much like yours, probably why I was attracted to your site. I love the combination of turquoise and rust, as well as indigo , beige and browns. Muted colours. Thank you again for your insight it gives me the confidence to follow my instincts, not only in art but other parts of my life. Did I get too deep, ha ha. Okay, byeeee. Suzannka 🙋🏼♀️🌻🇨🇦
I'm always in awe of your colour palette, it is so distinctive and easily recognizable as your work, and it's just so comforting and cozy. Every time I try to pick a small palette to do all my work in, I end up picking colours from all over the place because I don't want to give any of them up! So instead I use lots of colours across my work but each project or series will have it's own limited palette. I know I'll never have a cohesive or recognizable portfolio of work, but doing it this way is what brings me joy. And it keeps me from trying to use every colour in every piece, lol! Super helpful video for making limited palettes, whether it's for an entire body of work or just individual projects, and I'll be referring back to it. Thank you!
This video was excellent Kriksis. Truly. I liked every aspect of it - so inspiring. I especially liked the way you showed us how to pinpoint the colours on a hand drawn colour wheel. I’m going to try this to help me know what my colour palette truly is. I must say I’m mostly drawn to pastels esp. pale blue, pale yellow, pale green, pink (all spectrums of pink). Even though orange is your preferred colour and mine is pink, this hasn’t stopped me liking your art. Your art is excellent! And that it has a nature focus. Look forward to your next video 🦋
Hi Kriksis. I just wanted to add that this afternoon I spent time finding my palette using coloured pencils and I believe I’ve found it. Thank you for your guidance. In reference to the colour wheel, they are Yellow-orange, yellow (all shades including fluorescent), yellow-green, green (nearly all), pale blue (varying shades of pale blue depending on the brand), and pink (all shades including fluorescent), plus peach (all shades). This was an enjoyable task. I’ve put all the pencils in the one jar. Now I’m ready to trial this and draw something next weekend. Thank you for being inspiring. Have a great week 🌻
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and charm for our benefit. I was feeling stuck - probably because I have mixed up too many paint colors and now cannot choose a palette! I now feel ready to get back into the studio with a fresh outlook.
Thank you-this video helped me a lot to find out what colour palette suits me. Funnily I found it almost overaps yours. Green is my colour ( being a red head😊) and I also love golden yellows and deep orange browns. I am not at all into reds, pinks or purples unless they have some twist to them, like coral red or perylene violet. They are nice as an accent to the green, yellow and browns and dusky blues. But pure pink-ugh! And thank you for showing where brown is on a colour wheel, I have wondered about that!
Kriksis, First class editing and information!!! I love the Derwent Drawing pencils too, for their beautiful muted colors as well as smooth texture. You are brilliant!!!
So wonderful video with many informations to learn from. So good to hear, that the colors one likes are more important than color theory. By the way: I admire your color palette and your favorite colors. They are really really YOU!
Thank you, this gave me some thoughts on how to think when buying new colours. I am currently buying my first set of professional watercolours and I don't want to buy these already chosen sets but pick out the ones I enjoy using. So thank you for this discussion. It felt like I sat and talked to you about this. Much love
I love it! I tend to always make sure I have at least a pair of complementary colors to neutralize each other.. but otherwise I'm all over the place 😂 A cohesive color palette is very very helpful indeed!
I often try to mix my color palette up but my art always turn out to be turquoise, green and blue with a lot of warm yellow like Indian yellow. I like most colors but turquoise and blue are the colors that make me the most happy. Greys, black and reds are my least favorite colors with emphasis on greys. Thanks for another great video! 🙏😊
Love your color palette! It’s very comforting, like visiting an old friend! “I don’t think about those colors again for a very long time” lol that’s how i feel when I try to use like blue green grey colors which I realized I do like in other peoples work but have a very hard time using myself 😅
Thank you so much her billowing heart! :) Haha completely understand your thoughts regarding liking how the colour looks in others work, but is not necessary your colour. :)
I do love your color pallette! When I look at your work, it is both calming and and exciting in a more long-term, transformational way. It feels like a moth about to fly for the first time under the light of a full moon, the magic that doesn't need to be noticed by everyone, but just those who know how to see the subtle miracles of everyday life. I think it was in a talk by Louise Fletcher that I realized that the art we respond to and love as artists is not necessarily the style we want or need to create. Since hearing that, I have a lot more clarity in my own work. I can love a mid-day of primary colors with hard geometric lines but still want to settle down into a Maxfield Parrish dusk in my own sketchbook. Thank you so much for another episode and for the charming footage of your home farm. I would love to slow down with that quirky menagerie of unique animals any day, even with my own hay fever. 😊
I love this video Kriksis, thankyou! Will be watching it again for sure 😊 Colour is by far my favourite element of art. I loved all your advice and the examples you showed, especially the nature walks in beautifully coloured places. Looking forward to your future videos about colour. I've been really enjoying learning more about colours and palettes through personal colour analysis (which colours harmonise with a person's skin undertone). So inspiring and opens my mind for when it comes to artwork. Maybe the artwork flows from page to person.
When you sit down to make a work do you pick out a color palette before you start? Also my favorite color is a aqua blue color, how do you suggest to build a color palette around that? Should I include a complimentary color to the blue like orange maybe? This video was so helpful I would love another video similar answering people’s color palette questions and making some color palettes!
Looove this video! ❤ It would be cool to see you going out in nature and walking us through choosing a palette based on that specific spot/ seeing you make art from it!
i loved this so much kriksis! thanks for taking us through the process... my palette is still all over the place, so gonna take some of your suggestions and try to hone it in.
What a lovely video Kriksis! I love that you incorporate your favourite colours in not only your art, but your surroundings. I can tell that it brings you joy! Also, what a lovely idea to go explore and take pictures of natural colour palettes that interest you! I will have to experiment with that! Thank you for sharing ❤
I really enjoyed you sharing your thoughts. It was very helpful. What were your big chunky paint markers when you showed the landscape with the path? They looked interesting. Thanks. ❤
I've 'liked' the video before watching because I know I'm going to LOVE this! Your videos are always so comforting and a feast for the eyes. 🧡 Edited to add: I've now watched this video 3 times - the last time with Dominic beside me too - and I honestly think this is one of the most informative and inspiring videos you've ever made. We both enjoyed it so much. Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos and for your magical art, Kriksis!
Ah Kriksis this was such a treat to watch - a true feast for the eyes!😍 Thank you for sharing such great tips and tricks with us - it was so interesting hearing your thoughts about colour and how you’ve ended up with the colours you use in your work today. Also - I love the fact that you match your colour palette 🎨 😊❤xx
I definitely was waiting for this video, so precious to see how the pallete comes out of your life and what you love. I need to observe myself to see what are my colors, otherwise I feel a bit lost:) Thank you, Kris!
Great video full of great ideas. I am keenly interested in buying the Japanese color palette book you mentioned. Their traditional colors make me happy! Would you mind sharing the name and author of the book? Much appreciated!
Super fun video! I love the fountain pen part too :). Have you tried a Fude nib? I am loving mine from Sailor. I loved all the examples of what you enjoy. Thank you!
Great video Kristine - your colour palette is very much a part of your style and I can see how it’s good for consistency. Your choice of colour helps make your work harmonious and lively, so definitely well recieved advice 🙏
Lovely interesting video. I wonder if your hair colour has anything to do with your love of fox orange? Your clothes and your studio reflect your obvious favourites of burnt sienna and ultramarine. Your cardigan is lovely and fits your personal palette perfectly. Colour is what makes nature so beautiful.
I loved the scenes at the beginning of this video! We are so lucky to have something called nature around us 🥰 Natur-al colors are the best! I like pastel colors too 😊
I love your colour palette. In my work I use lots of blues and turqoise combined with violet and to warm it up napels yellow and rost colours. What is the music you play in your video? I love the first one💖 Thank you for all the video's. I enjoy watching them🙏 Oh...I can't work with red🙈
Thank you Karin for sharing what kind of colours dominate in your colour palette. Music is from epidemic sound, artist is Lama house, the first one is called ''Secrets from the earth'' :) Thanks for watching!
Really cool to heard an artist talking about color palette ! And i really like to watch when your drawing and painting ! Was arfe those big ( and smaller) painting markers that i used ? Gouache markers ???
Thank you so much 😀 They are Molotow paint markers. The bigger ones are empty markers which I filled with Molotov acrylic refills ink and made my own colours. :)
