I find that there are some frames which work well as sunglasses, but don’t look great with clear lenses. The opposite is also true. There is a “sweet spot” where the frames look great either way. I have made the mistake of adding transitions to frames that look great when clear but look rather anemic as sunglasses. This video was very helpful in making me more mindful when selecting frames for transition lenses.

I just got done watching several videos on photochomic lenses as I'm shipping for a pair and I have to say I found yours much more informative and valuable for my purposes. I also really appreciated the fashion tips. You chose some really cool frames to demonstrate as well which I haven't priced yet... Thanks!

I've seen photochromic lenses that have a base tint, that is, they don't go completely clear when indoors. I'm surprised more places don't sell them!

Thanks. Sound advice to consider before getting another pair of glasses with photochromic lenses. Is there a tint/flash colour combination that’s best for keeping reflections in the lenses to a minimum? Like your thought process and practical demonstration 👍

Yes, good question. Amber is the least prominent flash coating colour.

Thank you so my Rob. Is Flash fusion similar to Essilor's Style Mirrors? I agree that photochromic lenses should look like proper sunglasses.

Yeah very similar but more subtle inside and maybe not quite as mirrored outdoors. Also faster to change. Good question 😀

I managed to get my hands on a 2863 in the gold frame. I can't decide between a fixed cosmetic tint as a statement piece, and a photochromic lens which I also want to be just a little bit "extra". What tints would you recommend (Zeiss, obviously)?

@@thespectaclefactory I have already watched it. In fact, I watch many of your videos repeatedly because there's just so much inspiration that I need multiple takes to soak it in! I have ideas, and I even have a spreadsheet to strategize my tints so that I cover all my bases without overlapping too much. I've got a few pairs just standing by because I wanted to have them in my hand to have a look at them directly for a while before committing. The lens are often way more expensive than the frames so some consideration needs to be made :)

Whenever I see rimless photochromic specs, I'm like man, what are they thinking? The photochromic lenses work well with the majority of frames, except for rimless, which just looks weird when the lens turns dark. Just got photofusion x grey in Trivex on a -2.5 SV Rx on an Etnia frame. First photochromic lenses ever, totally digging the functionality. One bit that took a day or two for me to get used to is that there's a slight yellow residual tint when compared to a non-photochromic lens. But you really can't see it after a bit more wear time.
@thespectaclefactory
@thespectaclefactory 2 года назад
I agree, in most cases rimless glasses and photochromics do not go well together - there are exceptions though, Cartier being a perfect example. I would bet the yellowing you're experiencing is due to the Trivex more than the PhotoFusion.
@laughter95

@@thespectaclefactory even in the videos at tradeshows featuring photofusion x, I see that the lens isn't perfectly clear. I wonder what we're both referencing, this residual tint as part of Photofusion X vs. Trivex.

Hey Robert, perfectly timed video as i have an inquiry i hoped you could resolve. I've heard about reykjavik eyes brand from your channel, went ahead and bought a pair and was looking to pair them with photochromic lens. It's Agnar c3 model and was looking to pair them with silver mirror photochromic lens. (was first looking at zeiss as you feature them more, but here where i live essilor is overwhelmingly more featured and available than zeiss brand) I'm genuinely interested about your opinion, as to where this combo is a go, or no-go. Or perhaps something else, you as a professional, think it would be better? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance regardless. Greetings from Serbia.
@thespectaclefactory
@thespectaclefactory 2 года назад
Hey Igor! Thanks so much and sorry it takes me a while to reply. I get so many comments and get snowed under by them! I haven't had a client from Serbia yet, but I could definitely send you Zeiss lenses for your Agnar if you wanted. Anyway... that's the grey black and gold right? It's quite neutral so would go with most things, but personally, I'd order grey and amber or gold mirror coating to match with the gold on the inside of the frame. The diamond would be my close 2nd choice, but just be careful that diamond or silver could be a little too reflective indoors as it is the most prominent flash coating.

@@thespectaclefactory Thank you Robert for taking the time to reply to RU-vid comments. Unfortunately since i had to buy the frames from someone in London (literally nowhere in Serbia can you get a pair of Reykjavik frames) i have to get the lenses from local optician here, since their practice is to sell you either frame or a lens (or both) to do a business with you. But perhaps next time i could bother you for the lenses since what you mention in your videos and what you work with vastly outshadows what they have here to offer. I'm honestly jealous of level of customisation people over there enjoy compared to where I'm at. Again thank you for your input and thoughts. It has been an enjoyment learning and watching your videos. Kind regards.

Hi Robert, I wish you guys were in London. I got a new VAVA WL0027 frame in green and willing to put Photofusion X lenses in Extra Gray without a mirror coating. How much residue colour would be in the clear state, 10% or less would you say? Another question is what base lens would you chose in this case Duravision Platinum or something else? I. mean what are my options? I also have a vintage Savile Row Panto frame in gold with an old prescription and would love to fit them with Photofusion with mirror coating in amber but can't decide on base colour. Is there any residue colour in the clear state of the base on the lens (i.e. brown or green) or just the gold glare of the mirror coating? Thanks!
@thespectaclefactory
@thespectaclefactory Год назад
Well, many of our clients are in London! It's really not that far. The Extra Grey is about 15% residual tint. Yeah, no noticeable residual colour on the normal PhotoFusion (technically it's 7% but truly not visible) - I would vote for green to contrast against the gold frame and gold coating. We can still fit the lenses for you even if you can't visit btw

@thespectaclefactory
@thespectaclefactory Год назад
I can't help but feel that's just a bit too much colour, but if you're a more expressive person, why not? I'd suggest a G15 photochromic instead such as Transitions Graphite Green or PhotoFusion Pioneer. That would be a nice pairing. BTW, we could make a pair for you if you wanted. It's something we do for many international clients.

Photochromic is functional and whatever is functional tends to look apt and relevant. With the right kind of frame (in my opinion especially the less chunky one like the Aviators/Navigator type) photochromic may be fitted to look great.
