Excellent coverage of these various factors, I see you use Zerene (as I do also). The thing I'm finding most difficult at present, with hand-held focus stacks, is getting a consistent rate of movement so there are no soft spots in the middle ot the stack. More practice required on my part!
@peterviragphoto

Hey Greg, thanks a lot! Yes, hand-held focus stacking can be difficult at times and takes a fair but if practice. I’ve got another tutorial for that coming soon, already finished editing. Glad to hear you like Zerene too, it’s great for deeper stacks. Have an awesome weekend!☺️👍👍

Hey Jaime, thanks a lot mate. If you don’t want to invest hundreds of dollars into a macro lens but still want to have a versatile, easy to set up option that’s decent optically then looking into diopter lenses ( e.g. Raynox or the NiSi lineup ) might be a good idea. I mainly use the NiSi 49mm close-up lens now that would turn most kit lenses into a true macro with 1:1+ magnification. I have a review of that lens if you’re interested here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FEgalcGl3a0.html More info on the 49mm lens here: nisifilters.com.au/product/nisi-close-up-lens-kit-nc-49mm-with-62-and-67mm-adaptors/ref/peterviragphoto/ Thanks again for your kind feedback. The experiences you share are very useful. Thank you so much! How to shoot video of small insects in motion? I hope you will do a tutorial on shooting videos of moving insects with laowa25mm.
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Thanks a lot, much appreciated! If you wanna use the Laowa 25 mm for shooting moving insects, you’ll need a tripod first & foremost as hand-held footage at that magnification without optical image stabilisation will be unusable. I already have tutorial here and the majority of tips would apply too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0NtRkroyezY.html Here is my more recent one with how I captured springtailsm: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sEiZsrtVFlI.html Cheers:)

Useful info Peter. I use f11 on my Sony 90mm for most shots. I can see sharpness start to drop off at apertures that are smaller. You have made me interested in that Laowa 25mm, I will have a look at that lens.

Thank you so much. I finally know a basic understanding of these adjustments you mentioned. However, what about jewelry photography? Are macro lens the best option?
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto 7 месяцев назад
Hi there. Yes, macro lenses are definitely a great optiom for capturing jewellery. At higher magnification you’d have to start stacking for proper depth of field too. Cheers

Patently there is a trade off between aperture and diffraction -- the number of shots one "has time to take" also matters -- is the subject moving are you holding the camera very steady. If hand holding then one needs to leave a lot of space around the subject to allow Helicon Focus Pro to find a stationary image across stacked shots. Maximum magnification is ONLY at the closest focussing distance.
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hello Andy. Yes, there are many other factors that could have an impact on choosing the right aperture. Those that I focused on are the most important in my opinion. Re the max magnification, that’s obvious, so not sure why you were referring to that. Cheers

So for the sharpest image on my canon FD 100mm macro i should use f8 f11 or f14?
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto 2 месяца назад
Hey there. On the FD, I think the sharpest would be f/8 as well, but I’ve never tested it. I use f/14 on my EF version with most subjects to maximise DOF for single shots, but the diffraction might be worse for the FD so I’d experiment a little and see at which aperture the falloff starts to become noticeable. Cheers

Great video as always. Did you need to stack multiple nisi lenses on 100mm to achieve 3x? Is 100mm with close up lenses a better performer than Laowa?
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hey there mate. I did stack the DCR-250 with the NiSi 58mm for some of those. The Laowa is still better optically than when you add multiple optical elements, but the difference is barely noticeable for the majority of frames. I’ve been mainly using the 90mm from Laowa with the 49mm close-up lens from NiSi these days: nisifilters.com.au/product/nisi-close-up-lens-kit-nc-49mm-with-62-and-67mm-adaptors/ref/peterviragphoto/ www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-90mm-f-2-8-2x-macro-apo/ref/894/ Cheers.

@@peterviragphoto Thank you. After we exchanged messages last time, I purchased Laowa 90mm, however I was misfortunate enough to receive a bad sample with some ghosting and poor sharpness. I am considering selling it in favor of Canon 100mm.

@@peterviragphoto I just performed a few tests using a tripod comparing Canon RF 100mm and Laowa 90mm (both at 1x). My copy of Laowa definitely has less contrast and shows some smearing, especially when using a flash. Canon is heavier, but I that's my choice so far.

Hey there. I’ve never had any issues with mine luckily, it’s tack sharp at my preferred aperture of f/11 for stills. Cheers

So sorry to hear that. I’ve got a few friends who bought the Laowa too and neither of them have had any issues. Canon 100mm is a top choice anyway. Good luck!
