I just noticed a piece of this video has an echo to it!! I am so sorry about that. :( this is not how it was suppose to be. I am working on some new technical stuff xo
Elle Leary Artistry I really would appreciate an in depth video regarding blushing and bronzing for red skinned rosacea ladies like me I never attempt blush due to the redness. Actually just makeup in general for rosacea would be fantastic! Thanks!
Lightly dusting my forehead, jawline, across my nose and my eyes (the 80's/90's method you described) with what's left on my blush brush is something i've done for as long as I can remember. It really brings life to my fair, ( and now) very mature skin and is the perfect last touch without compromising any other aspect of my makeup. I hope you'll demonstrate it in future looks and encourage people to give it a try. When you find the perfect blush color this method is a game changer! Thanks for the tips and tricks!
Same! I am very fair and my skin can look very dull after putting on foundation. I really have to warm things back up by bringing the blush to more areas than the cheeks.
Elle your content is so obviously chosen because it has grown naturally, and it’s been an organic journey to this point. You make the most difficult topics understandable and approachable. Thank you for these real-life examples and answers to our true dilemmas. I adore you❣️❤️❤️❤️
I accidentally bought the wrong color blush on line and I love it. I have cool undertones and usually go for a pink but this coral color looks surprisingly great.
I’m 66 years old and Australian and googled “what colour blush for cheeks” clicked on videos and your video came up with many others. I’m glad I chose yours, I’m fair skinned and have the blue veins, now I know what blush to use 😁 Thank you. I’ve subscribed.
I have listened to different makeup artists who didn't talk about how they choose the eyeshadows. I am so glad you addressed this because I don't know what color of eye shadow or lipsticks to choose and now I know, I don't have to use a cool tone eyeshadow even if my makeup is cool toned. I was told that I am cool tone by a makeup artist that I saw in person and also someone at Ulta told me that but I think I am neutral. I look good wearing gold and silver and I burn, I don't tan which indicates cool tone maybe. Anyway, my dad was a red head with light blue eyes and medium skin and my mom was cool toned dark skin, hair and eyes. I am light skinned with medium eye blue green hazel gold eyes. I am so excited to try different shades of blush too. I have been undecided on lip color and blush color. Thank you for this video. I might enjoy playing with makeup colors once again.
This is actually the first beauty related video that made me feel like I learned something! I had a revelation this week that a peach lip would look amazing on me, even though I always thought it would be too warm for me. With my pale skin, golden light brown hair and green eyes it looks so good! The mauve I used to wear for years just pales in comparison… It made me realize I should probably change my blush as well :-).
I ordered the wrong blush by mistake and it worked perfectly! I usually order pink tones but I ordered Honest Beauty Cream Blush in Bright Coral Peach and it looks great! The cream work great on my mature skin. I am 56. Thank you for the guidance! Adding more pink was not a good idea and I have been doing this for years. I am fair, blonde hair, blue eyes with pink undertones.
I have a very fair, cool-toned, 'Winter' complexion with brown hair, and eyes.I wear roses, mauves, cool pinks, lavenders, reds, and fuchsia blush colours when I wear the same shades on my lips. For example, when I wear a cool, blue-toned red lipstick, I wear a cool-toned red blush. Cool-toned blush colours accentuate the blue undertones of my skin, and they match, and compliment the 'Winter' palette of my wardrobe, jewellery, and accessories. This palette includes cool jewel tones, primary colours, true white, black, and ice tones, but not pastels. I could never wear warm peach, 'neutral', brown, or orange blushes! Those shades would be warm, and opposite to the undertones of my complexion. I had colour analysis done when I was in my early twenties. It has really helped me to only purchase the best, flattering cool-toned 'Winter' shades, tones, and colours of make up, clothing, jewellery, and accessories that will compliment my complexion, Sherrey🎀
One of the most informative videos I’ve seen in a long time! I am fair and blonde and for years was doing more pink blushes and they seemed to bring out the red in my skin. In the past year I’ve been doing more peachy nude types of colors and they look much better! I believe I may have found you from Peter 💙 and I can’t wait to check out more of your content. 😊
I’m fair, blonde with pink to neutral undertones and find a light pink, or neutral pinks work perfectly too as they mimic how I actually blush. Nars impassioned is a favorite.
Thank you for all of your wonderful tips. Being a 45 year old woman who never really cared about my skin care I am finding I have a lot of ground to make up.
What would you suggest, color wise, for blush when you have redness from rosacea? I don’t wear full coverage so it peaks through. I wear more neutral toned foundation to combat the red. But I think I’m slightly warm.
Certainly better for the expert to reply, but I have very pink cheeks which flush at times- not as severe as rosacea of course. I wear sheer foundations with slightly yellow tones to neutralize the red, which gives a neutral canvas that allows more blush options. I would say knowing that the red will come through during the day, more nude tones look nice to give some color. Hope that helps a little?
So sorry for the delay it takes me a min to get back to everyone. this is a great question. I am doing a who series on rosacea. Everything from skincare to makeup. but speaking in general terms I don't love to use a pink blush in this situation since you don't need to add more. What I do is focus on the bronzer and then use a nude tone blush. Try the one from tarte that I talked about. Let me know how you get on
I found this so helpful. I was looking for a blush last month, but I found a good palette from Lorac at Sephora that I wasn't expecting to like, but I LOVE it for the variety of looks I can get from the 4 blushes and 2 highlights. It's called Shine Bright Color Source and Light Source Cheek Pallette. I was using Milani's Romantic Rose but it broke, and I wanted something that I could travel with and not worry about it cracking. I think I'm neutral. My veins on my wrists are more green, but there are times where they are blue (or blue green). My face has some red, but kinda yellow, too. I tend to look better in warmer shades on my eyes, but if I work at it, I can pull off a cool toned look; I just have to add in a tiny pop of warm to make it look "right" - like you were saying about lip color. And OMG lip color - nude and coral-nude shades look AWFUL on me. My "nude" your lips but better is more of a dusty rose, pinky-nude, though I feel best in a medium berry shade. All to say...am I a warm, cool, or neutral? It's hard! 😂
Hi Elle! I am way more confused than ever! I have light skin with very dark hair and greenish/hazel eyes. I think I have warm undertones but I do see green and blue veins on my wrist, so maybe I’m neutral. I JUST DON’T KNOW!! Could you just suggest one blush I should wear? I have a lot of blushes at home and when you say, just wear whatever makes you feel good, there are no rules LOL; I have no idea, when playing around with what I own, what looks good and what looks bad. Maybe they all look good?? Maybe they all look bad?? I’m so lost Elle!!!
I feel you. I am warm even though I have blue veins. I found my undertones after months of struggling. Some methods I would recommend are using a white piece of paper or if you have a towel, compare your skin to the white colour. If your skin (not the face because it will always have redness) looks pink, you are cool. If it looks yellow, you are warm. Another test I would recommend is wearing different colours and see how it enhances your skin. For me, a warm mustard yellow shirt makes my skin glow, but a cool icy blue washes me out. This could be vice versa if you are cool. Hope this helped
Get tips Elle, never thought of wearing white to help determine the correct color/tone. I love the tip about using the remaining blush on other areas, I often use that trick across my nose to replicate having been in the sun when I have a bit more color in the summer
Elle, this was the best video for me. I am in my 60s with silvery white hair and because I am cool every makeup counter wants to put me in pink. I have always liked colors on the tangerine side. I bought the Ectasy by CT, and I really enjoy it. I don’t want to be an older woman trying to look all pink and girly! If you come across a cream blush in that color line, will you let us older women know? Thank you for your energy and hard work-it really is so good.
Thank you for this! I think this is the most informative and helpful video I’ve watched on RU-vid lately. Not too long ago I was also watching some of your older videos on the eyeshadow basics and those were very helpful as well. I’ve only ever really worn makeup since this last summer so I’m a beginner at all of this, but I’ve also found that I have a passion for it and am really taking on this new hobby so when you break it down and put it into perspective like this it really helps me out a lot!
I love your eye look in this video. If you have the time and others would like it could you do a tutorial on how you got this look. It really is such a cohesive look especially having a bit of your lip tone in your eye shadow crease colour. Beautiful💕
It’s funny you mentioned putting blush on your nose and forehead in the 80s and 90s, I had to chuckle a little because that’s how my mama did my makeup for all my recitals. That was definitely a thing, lol! Even with all the tricks I’ve learned on RU-vid, I still do that, not as much as she did, but I agree that it pulls the look together. Good video!
I love this. I've always been a blush girl and I've always taken it all over like you show. Definitely it's been something everyone looks at me funny for but it's something I don't feel complete without! There's just something about a slightly blushed face that makes me makeup-swoon. Thanks so much for the tips on color selection!!
I really can't tell what color my veins are and I'm very fair skinned. Yet at the same time, my skin sometimes looks like I have some pink in it or other times doesn't. What kind of undertone should I choose to be able to choose the right color blush? Thank you so much for doing videos like this Elle!!!
Hey Elle! Great helpful video! My fav is hourglass! I think I'm going to try the Milani you showed! Love their eyeshadow palettes. You look radient! Your skin is gorgeous! Thx for sharing your tips! Hugs! Xo
Your blush tips are so helpful. Blush can bring so much youth and vibrance to the face. I am very fair and have a lot of red and pink in my face, pinks tend to disappear unless it is a brighter color. I really love Stila convertible color in Petunia as it is a coral color, I get lots of compliments on it, it enhances my blue eyes too. Lilium is my other Stila cream blush go to, a browny pink nude perfect when I'm wearing more muted tones. I bought both of Stilas blush palettes to figure out my favorites. I have been wearing Tulip, a berry color, the last few days and love it on the apples on my cheeks as it looks like Ive been outside in this winter weather. Berry or purple colors tend to look like a bruise so I have to be careful and use sparingly. Thank you Elle! I hope to get RMS lip2cheek in Smile, another coral, with giftcard soon.
Thank you so much for this video, Elle. I'm a medium-neutral (pretty much every foundation I own has the word beige in it), and this is so helpful. Even though I have a neutral undertone, I'm always worried about everything matching, and you've given me the okay to just relax and go with it. You're the best. And NARS Orgasm is the best blush of all time ☺
This was very helpful. I often wondered why cooler blushes looked better on me even though I’m warm. I’m fair (about a shard or two lighter than you depending on time of year), but very warm. My veins are very green lol. So sometimes it’s very confusing for me and hard to find shades that work, since most fair skinned products are aimed at cooler tones. In fact, it’s really hard to find foundation. But this helped clear up that confusion I had about cool blushes. Thanks!!
Also I love using my blush as my eye shadow. In fact that’s all I wore for years lol. I just sweep it in my cheeks and eye lids. Super fast and easy. Had a women stop me once in a store to ask what my eye shadow was! She was floored when I told her it was just my blush lol ;)
I don’t really hear anyone talking about olive skin tones. Yes that’s me. I get told I’m a cool tone because my veins are blue. I can’t wear yellow because it makes me look green. But, I’m not pink in anyway. So get confused as to what I am.
well olive is warm undertone so when I say warm that is what I mean. I would love to see your wrist because if you have olive skin tone I could bet you are warm or neutral/warm xo
Alecia Leno-Kim YES! Never enough information about olive skin tones, especially really fair olive skin tones. Things like NARS Orgasm that’s supposed to look good on everyone looks like pink mud on me. 🤢 You just literally have to try everything cause you just never know.
Love love this video. Thank you so much for addressing different skin undertones and shades. I love your makeup and hang on to every word of your recommendations. I have medium deep skin (NC42) and love NARS blushes, specially Orgasm and Sin. I also own many of Becca’s and this video has given me many new ideas. Every time I go to sephora the staff wants to put Rockateur on my cheeks and now I might let them 😊
Such a great & informative video Elle! Love it!! Glad I’ve been reaching for the correct kind of tones for my skin. Hubby thinks I’m more blue undertones, however I think I’m more neutral lol so jury is still kinda out there I guess. I tend to think corals look best on me? Even clothing... oranges and corals... but some pinks look pretty too. I can’t do light pastel colours for clothing tho... it makes me look pale and sick I think. Brighter tones seem to look better. And when I reach for a red lipstick? It has to have some orange in it for me to look red. If it’s a blue red? It looks pink on me.
So good video, and a thing I always find so defficult blush and lipstick colors can be so hard. So this really helped me thanking you so much sweetie ❤️
Girl I think I accidentally choose the Siena blush from your link of the KA blush but I absolutely love love this warm coral! Just looks absolutely perfect for my skin tone. I think you covered us all !!! Thank you professor 👩🏫💕💕💕Btw. Love your intros in your videos lately. Great upbeat music💕. Hey you’re wearing a new foundation right? You look absolutely gorgeous!!!
Hello beautiful lady I was smiling ear to ear I actually have one of the Hourglass blush , several of the Milani & Tarte Exposed. I was thinking to myself hey not bad for a 57 year old and Elle approved YAY 😍 Big Hugs Debbie
As someone who loves to wear bright cool toned clothes (light blue, mint green etc) I realized I must be cool toned in my skin. I am very fair and have redness in my face. I got confused because I always felt like, because warm toned clothing doesn’t suit me (red washes me out), I should choose cool pink blush instead of warm peachy blushes. I figured there was more blue cool tones in the pink one than the peach one… Now I realize I need to choose the peach blush, otherwise I am just adding red to my face? 😅 …. It does explain why I looove peach lipstick and never would go for a pink or red! I feel dumb…
Can u do a different eyeshadow tones with Blush pls ! Like brownish eyeshadow with which blush ? Orangish eye with which kinda blush. Reddish eye with which blush. Etc ... Then end off with lips also! This Video is so gd !
@elleleary I love videos like this that teach us basics that are so helpful. Personally I have cool neutral skin and I always thought I looked best in more peachy or nude blushes not pinks and now I see I was right. I bought the Charlotte tilbury first love and I really like it. Was gonna buy ecstasy and went w first love hope I made the right choice 🙂
OMG Elle! I can't tell you how much I loved this video!!! This is always the way I've done makeup! I feel sane again!!! No match-ey, match-ey for this girl!!! Your hair is AMAZING!!! ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ Happy New Year!!! XO Lydia
@@susangerhards1296 It's on my list .... When I use up at least two of the blushes I'm currently trying to get through. They're so difficult to use up 😂😂😂 xxx
Hi Elle. What blush do you think would look good on mature (65+) skin. Not too dewey (if at all). I’ve been thinking about the hourglass ambient light blushes. Thanks.
My skin is very neutral-olive in undertone, but I’m only a little darker than you... still experimenting with blush. I’m lucky that my sister is a buyer for a cosmetics retailer... I have so many to try.
I’m light to medium and recently discovered I’m olive undertones. Have previously thought yellow undertones yet don’t look great in warm colors. Look best in neutral pinks I think. Even some cooler pinks. One of the best blushes I’ve used is shy by ELF. Do you have some suggestions for olive undertones
Great tips Lovely 😊 First ever hearing about wearing a white T-shirt and I need to try mixing them! I'm in a rut with 2 colors at different times right now. 🙄 Thanks again! 🙏🏼 💕Maddy
Love peachy blush! Thanks for the great examples! I have an off topic request... my son is 12 and has developed small bumps on his cheeks. The doctor said to use a salicylic acid based face wash which he is using, but just wondering if you could possibly do a video or give some tips for us parents with pre-teens/teens who may be going through some skin issues or who could use a general routine? Everything you recommend works for my face, but for his age, I'm clueless!
My son has the same problem. He is 7. I bought the Dermadoctor KP Duty lotion and it has worked so so well. I got the travel 1oz size since I only use it on his face and its $10 at Ulta or Sephora. Salicylic acid helped some but dried my sons skin out so I just wanted to share my experience. Good luck!
you know what, I get this question a lot so just might. I have shied away because I don't like to comment on kids under 18 but let me think on this one and see the best way to approach it xo
This would be great. My daughter is 13 and really struggles with acne, but her skin is very reactive (like mine). So when she uses a lot of the exfoliaters and acne creams she gets red and flakey skin around her eyes. I actually get it too if I’m too aggressive. Feel bad for passing that one along. We’ve tried Paula’s choice and that was too reactive. We’re trying first aid beauty and Murad now, but her skin is so sensitive we have to be careful. And getting a tween to remember a skincare routine is hard ! Lol
@@ElleLearyArtistry Thanks Elle! This would be great! I completely understand about the age restriction, so important when recommending things to make sure they are safe for kids. This is why I need help. Even a simple skin care regime that they could follow to help with minor skin issues or for just a clean face.
I have the exposed tarte blush but its too plum and dark for me? What would u suggest? I have alot of red in my face, blue veins, blue eyes, light brown hair but im not the fairest shade in foundation.
I struggle with blush. My cheeks become so rosy as the day goes on and basically takes over. I find myself trying to match that natural pink color that often develops. I am blonde and fair skinned. I use Bare Minerals powder foundation in Fairly Light because it has a neutral tone. I don't want to add more pink all over. I was actually wanting to try the Milani blush you spoke of, so I am glad you like it. Thanks for the great video.
@Leslie Prebyl I have the same issue and I also use bare minerals powder foundation! A bare minerals rep once told me to use the bare minerals bronzer in the color fair to light as blush and it works!
@@panagiotapatty4730- I actually have that bronzer, but haven't used it much. I should try it. I embrace my fair skin and am not one to want to look tan. I know the bronzer is very light, but I don't want to look muddy as the day goes on. I have been wearing Bare Minerals for 19 years. I use to use the Rose Radiance all over face color as my blush. It use to be more of a baby pink and it was perfect. When the company was sold the color changed to more of an actual rose tone and it is too dark. It's a bummer because I would love to have fun with blush. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@leslieprebyl6238 I forgot to mention that there is an actual blush that I have that doesn't bring out any pink, it's perfect for us rosy girls lol. Hourglass ambient lighting blush dim infusion color, it's peachy...
@@panagiotapatty4730 I keep saying I am going to look into Hourglass and I just haven't. I prefer a blush that isn't so pigmented. I like to build the color. Thanks for the suggestion.
So so so helpful!! I have the right blush color so my skin! To me nothing is more sexy than blacks, whites and grays with a pop of pink cheek and lip. Now if I could master a winged eye...I would feel accomplished. 😂 Working on that now. Thanks Elle...you look gorgeous. ❤️🥰
really depends. if you are oily I would say powder dry more mature skin, cream but then you can use powder to set the cream for longer wear. you also can mix prime with your cream blush for more staying power, I have a video on this
This was quite helpful, I've just found your vids and I'm learning quite a bit. You did one where you did Angies makeup tutorial so I went from there. I've always been a bit confused about the blush thing so these tips will help, I think I may be wearing the wrong color🙄. I'll be testing out some new stuff. What I like is that your'e look barely shows blush but looks more like just a flush or like healthy skin. I don't like to look like I'm wearing a lot of makeup, but the blush could be a dead giveaway. Thank for the help!! 🤞....
Thank you doing this tutorial. I just purchased the hourglass ambient light palate volume 4. Wasn’t too sure if the palate would work for me. Could you do a tutorial using the hourglass ambient palate volume 4? Wondering how many looks you can do with this palate. 💕😘
I’ll bet your skin might be more cool- toned (?). It seems to me that peach & “mauvey”/dusty rose blush shades work a little better on warm, neutral, or neutral-warm skin tones, but that’s just my perspective.....which may or may not match-up precisely with Elle’s comments.
Happy New Year! First off.....thank you for holding off on the color wheel.... ooof....I’ll never understand that thing. I’ve heard that you should match your crease, blush, and lipstick...I’ve tried but there is no time in the AM to match and coordinate. I think I’m just going to pick up a few of the universals you recommended. I was just curious if you’ve heard the same.
