My first bike at 15 was a ktm 250 exc and I loved it. Super fun, fast, and actually great to learn on. At first I just turned the power valve down until I was used to it and learned body position etc.
@@travis4355 i have been reading about dirtbikes for the past year, i have obviously already read this comment many times. The Problem is im looking to ride in wide trails and since dirtbikes are illegal in my country i will have to run from police a few times. Im just not sure if a 125 will be enough for that
I understand your struggle bro I didn't really have parents growing up and I used to save the good stuff from my lunches and sell them worked my way up to sidekick phone that was broken I fixed it traded for a psp moral of the story is work a little harder than the rest of em and you'll get what you want it just take more steps
Two stroke ARE the best beginner bikes, they are SUPER easy to maintain and durable. PLUS the market for used Two strokes is way better then used four strokes (at least where I live that is)
The only downside i have about 250s are that they are all the same size and with my age, 16 i cant really race anything less but im only 5’ 5 (and i race trail so some of that tight/technical stuff is sometimes difficult cause i simply cant touch the ground)
Lol i started using a 250 when i was 14 cause my 85 broke and my dads bike was the only option and then by 15 i got my own ktm 250 xc which was lighter and faster than my dads honda (especially helped when muddy the bike felt like it was 300 lb)
Got a Kx250f recently and I haven’t been disappointed with it with all kinds of riding that my family does! And we ride everything so I knew I wanted to get something the could do all of it
I've been riding for years but haven't committed to upsizing from a 140 trail bike. im the tallest I'll ever be at 5"1' . I can handle 250,310,125 power quite well but im so short! I struggle on my mums lowered 250 just because of the height. I can't do pivot turns easy or log hopping:( maybe I'll get a 250 and lower it quite a bit. for now I borrow my friends bike for big rides
@@joeldarin7648 I'm 15 and have a YZ250. What I would recommend is take it easy at first, and build your skills on the CR250. Don't rush it and you'll be fine.
Jason P. That’s exactly what I’m planning on doing I don’t wanna rush it and end up regrets g it. I’m going to progress slow and then start picking up the pace, thanks so much for the tips.
I rode atvs half my life but I always liked dirt bikes better I got my first when I was 13 a crf125f and loved it now and unfortunately still saving for a new one
Tbh this helped ! I started on a 50 then went to a ktm 65 2 stroke left started racing street bikes now my kid is getting big so we are about to go back to the dirt bikes awesome vid
Started out at 13 on a klx140l 2 years ago, then jumped to a klx230r last year ( at which point i started to ride my dad's and cousin's yz 450s) and now I own an rmz 450.
i raced a few years then took a break and this year just bought a 2020 ktm 350SXF and i LOVE it. it is very smooth, great power, i let a buddy of mine ride it he rides different bikes, does reviews on them too his channel is the MX Guru. it may help some of you folks out if you are kind of on the edge of buying a bike.
Just always make sure you pull the clutch in drop to first, hit that rev limiter and let the clutch out super fast and Pray to baby Jesus it doesn’t throw you back into the 5th dimension
I told my dad I want a bigger bike cuz I outgrew my CRF100F so one day he came home with a CRF250R in the back of his pickup. I still need a lot of practice on it still.
Damn I'm 6'3" 190-200lbs and 16 years old but I'm currently riding a 2008 KTM exc250-f, but people are constantly telling me that I need a 450 or a bigger 2 stroke, but I think that I'm good on a 250, but the bike I have right now is perfect for me. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was about 9 or 10 (so about 6 MAYBE 7 years since I started motorcross). I don't race my bike or anything but I do ride ALOT in my yard and I have alot of fun so I think I'll be fine.
The 450 isn't as versatile as what you have now. They have incredible power and that makes it easy to do some things without as much skill. You can do everything with the bike you have as I can do with my crf450 or kx 250. Enjoy what you have and some day a bike you can't live without will come along.
Yoww I am soo happy i found this especially as a beginner cause i wanna do enduro so I am currently working on a 2003 ktm sx really want this bike back on the road !! Big respect keep doing great things 🙏
Would depend on your skill level and or comfort level on a heavier faster bike. If you’re just starting out maybe just go for a 230cc air cooled trail bike or 125cc - 150cc 2 stroke. If you know what you’re doing and go to the shop and feel comfortable on it tho then go for it!
Yea it would be fine as long as you have ridden bikes in the past, I’m 5’11 and 146 pounds and I ride a 450, as long as you are comfortable with the bike you will be fine.
A great all-around bike is the ktm 200! they are discontinued now so it may be hard or pricy if you find one but it was an amazing bike! I started riding only tracks, so I moved to a crf250r but the KTM could handle the occasional track day and any trail thrown at it.
Would you recomend to start on a 250 2 stroke? I have got it from my father and if i used that one i wouldnt have to buy a new one… btw. Im 14 and 5.8 i can ride a motorcycle but im starting on motocross…
Ya dude 125 is perfect for you. I actually think after the 85/supermini you should ride a 125 for a year to get used to the size and handling of a big bike before transitioning fully to a 250f. Going from a mini cycle to a 250f especially with how much power and how good they make them today is a huge step
I'm a new rider ... just rode for the 1st time ever last week and I'm wondering about bike sizes and weight capacities since I'm on the short-HeavY side ? 5'6" 180ish
im 17, 6ft, 65kg, looking to buy my first motocross bike - i've rode in the past and know the basics and what not but now looking to get into the sport, any suggestions on what bike to be getting.
I am also 17 and my weight is 70kg.I ride a 125. Thats a really hard question you should buy a 250 or a 125, but don't buy a 450 they are too strong. I think for a beginner is a 125 better and the adventage of a two stroke is that you learn to shift.
Hi MX!!! Thank you for your video! Great job! What do you think about Chinese dirtbikes? For example, Kayo. The cheap segment. Can you recommend it to a beginner in enduro sport? What is its handling? And in general, what is your opinion about Chinese dirtbikes?
I am 6'0 190 lbs but have not rode a dirtbike since a PW50 at 8 years old. What would be a good starter bike for me?? Would have to learn again and get comfortable with a clutch
If you are looking to get your first two stroke I would get a yz125. You can get the normal one which is good for motocross or you can get the x model for cross country or enduro.
I checked out your guy's website and its pretty cool. but one thing I think you guys could do in the future is maybe putting some riding gear on your store, I know I would definitely order some stuff like that.
When I was 15 last year I’ve been working and I bought a ttr125l as my first bike then I sold it a month later and bought a 2006 yz250f anniversary edition this was around June last year and I was like 5’8 and like 185 pounds and it was perfect then In December of last year I bought a 2006 R6 anniversary edition also as my first street bike and like 3 weeks ago I sold my yz250f for a 2016 Yz450f anniversary edition all my bikes have been Yamahas and the anniversary edition haha, I’m about 175 now and 5’11. Is the 450 too much power? Yes. Will I ever use it to its max potential? No. So then what’s the point? POWAA BABYYY I love cracking dank power nooners around my neighborhood
I'm 15 and have been saving money from work for a few years now and want to buy a vehicle for when I get my license and a dirt bike, but don't know which one I should put more money into. I could get a nice truck or a nice bike, or just okay truck and bike. I also can't find many good used bikes within a 250 mile radius.
What do you think for me I’ve been riding 3 years I’m gonna get a new one in about a year in a half right now I have a crf150 r and I’m 14 5”5 I ride trails and like single track stuff?
Bradys Jam I have a ktm 150xcw tpi, I ride trails and some single track. It’s a great bike. That’s probably what I would recommend to you. You’ll probably be a little taller in a year so it would be a good fit.
good advice , my first bike was a suzuki B120 ,,,, lol and next was a yz80b , just ride fast till you fell off ,,,, not much help back then ,still fun cheers Steve /Australia
My First Bike was a KX100 but I’ve growled out of my bike and the “pure MOTO” mentality. I’m having a hard time either 350 4 Stroke Enduro with Plate or 300 2 Stroke Cross Country. I want to have a bigger bike but I’m unfamiliar with those engine/geometry characteristics.
Im 18 6"5 250 lbs an have a te 125 if you are in the same category you definitely need to change the springs because these bike are tuned for half weight also about power if you are a begginer 125 smoker is very good and fun but a bit more dificult from a 250 4 stroke
250cc two strokes are not good starter bikes they’re way too powerful. U should start off with a 125cc and then will u get good enough sell it and buy a 250cc
Coming from a Sutton ultra bee want something a little faster and GAS. Tryna find out what would be the gas equivalent or slightly higher level of it would be, I ride enduro and want a 4 stroke for the reliability.
You should consider some compression on your video audio Aside from notching down the volume of the music a bit. But throw some compression on the master audio track. will make those music jump cuts less ridiculous
im 15 and ive never ridden before but i really want to i just dont have any knowledge and dont exactly have anyone to ask either tho from what you told me im looking for an enduro type style
I live in the countryside and I have no clue what my first dirtbike would be. I would ride it out in the field or at the forest nearby, so it means it should be enduro. Does that mean I shouldn't consider yz125 as a good choice. I want an actual recommendation. Great video though, thanks for all the information!
6’3 225pounds myself , never owned a dirt bike but i drive bikes , for weekend uses , driving around with friends , wheelies etc , which size should you recc and engine size?
at the moment im riding a 2011 yz125 with longer gearing to about 125kph and its just not cutting it for my introduction into racing cross country, like coming out of tight single tracks into a fire road where you hold it pinned top gear for 3 mins straight and then into fast rough as nuts stuff. the 125 cant keep up in the straights or fast section but exels in the tight twisty stuff. Im looking to buy a brand new 2023 bike but im torn between the 2-stroke and 4-stroke and also the dodgy gearboxes that yamaha have or the not so great suspension of the ktms. Im thinking either yz250x or 350xc-f but then theres also the yz250fx and the 250xc-f. Like do i need the 350 for the low end grunt or if thats the case do i go with the yz250x, and what about the debate between the ktm and yamaha 4-stroke. Idk im just confused and dont know what i need. if it helps im doing the brookton rounds and orcwa racing series in western australia, and maybe a few mx races in between. im also 17yr 70kg 6 foot
What would you recommend for a fairly experienced bike rider that wants to ride sand, I’m asking because I know that sand is hard on motors so they try to get high displacement bikes, I used to ride a 125 2stroke and outgrew it quite quickly.
