After watching a lot of videos from this channel I feel happy to know that there are opticians as passionate as I am about our craft. Hopefully your customers respect your efforts
To be shielded is exactly the feeling I like about light tinted glasses. I wear them in and out all day long. Getting compliments from strangers is the cherry on top.
I love these videos but it's absolutely blown my mind. I really want some nice eyewear but I'm more confused than ever now. Your knowledge is a credit to you sir.
Love the education on tinting. Wd love to see another one with tint AND coating together & matching the right frame...(ah, maybe I missed a recent episode on coating...wd love another one but the combo of tint/coating/frame choice RObert gives + live demo really makes this show stand out. Keep up the great work!
Thanks David, and good idea! Once you combine tints and coatings you get into the realm of almost unlimited possibilities so it would be a challenge to cover everything. Of course I can always give you some personal advice on that. But I'll try to do a video on both together at some point....
I'd love to see a video where you systematically go over the effect of each tint on vision. For example: are blue tints a bad idea for someone sensitive to light? Would it be better to choose a warmer colour? I know you mention orange often as ideal for driving. When should I pick lavender/purple tints, for instance? It would be really useful to have a colour by colour elaboration of the impact from both a style and subjective perspective.
I’m getting my new eyeglasses next week and this video has been extremely helpful in informing me of all the different features available in eyeglass frames and lenses. Good work, Sir, I’m a fan. Rick
You seem to be mainly focused on the aesthetics of the lens tint, I know that that's a big factor for most people but in my opinion the functionality and view is absolutely the decision maker regardless of the frame. I was hoping to hear more detail about how they effect colour and contrast and suitability for different environments.
Thank you for the awesome content. I must say that you heavy influenced my personal choice when I selected my most recent pair of glasses. My final choice was a pair of blue photochromic lens in a smoked crystal acetate frame (see profile picture) and I absolutely love them. Currently thinking on getting another pair with a jeans style permanent tint. keep up with the amazing work :)
This was super helpful! Explained a lot more than other videos. I've got a migraine condition, so am very sensitive to light sometimes, and I've been experimenting with various tints. May try a gradient next, so I don't have to carry two pairs as often! Thanks!
omg, i finally found a complete package on this topic after 2-3 years. thank-god your video appears on google search. i like the eye glass lenses you are wearing in the video.
My new driving glasses have a fantastic tint and when I pick up my blue crystals with the light blue lenses they are fab. Thankyou for sharing your own unique collection x
Have to say the Zeiss sun adaptive lenses are brilliant as are the DriveSafe and magma orange driving glasses! I also like the pistachio gradient tint on your Reykjavik Eyes but wondered if it can be incorporated with photo fusion technology to get the best of both worlds, indoors and outdoors? Really enjoyable video!
Sadly not :( it's possible in theory but I don't think there is a big enough market for it - considering that most opicians are stuck in the dark ages haha
Please comment about rose or pink tints. I have always preferred neutral gray or brown. Disliked blue or green. I had a pair of "rose colored glasses" made, just for fun. They give everthing a warmth that's very pleasing and I wear them most often of several tinted or photochromic pairs in my collection.
Rose is an excellent tint. High contrast and somewhat soothing at the same time. Great for cycling & golf, but still enjoyable to wear for general use.
Thank you for this awesome video. I learned so much! I wish I could buy glasses from your shop, unfortunately I’m in Japan. You helped me a lot, thank you!
Your amazng\,the videos are so informative, your expertise shines through. I’m hopefully starting in this industry and these video have been a lifesaver. Thanks man
Wow! Thank You for this video! It's inspiring to know that there are so many options out there for people like me who HAVE to wear glasses :) I think those adaptive sun lenses are the most enticing to me.
You're welcome 😁 Adaptive Sun lenses are awesome, you won't be disappointed if you try them. Especially if you HAVE to wear glasses, it means you don't have to take them off all the time when you're in the shade or venture inside
Brilliant video. Loved your detailed explanation of tints showcasing your own glasses. Definitely gives inspiration and ideas for future glasses!! Tints are definitely the way to go to customise your glasses and make them your own!! Great presentation Rob👍
"Adding a tint to your glasses"..must be nice as a possibility. I'm in the US. Adding a tint to your glasses is a forever moving target. A unicorn. Optical suppliers claim to offer it. But when you inquire, they just stare at you while quietly shoving the tint display our of your view. Or better yet, moving in front of it as if it's not there. If it's possible for you to fill an American prescription, that would be a dream come true. 🤓
@@thespectaclefactory , you’re welcome. What would be useful in future videos is to talk about the weight of a frame. That’s a very important factor esp if you’re wearing it all day and the weight of it is primarily bearing down on your nose bridge. I’ve dismissed beautiful looking frames in the past as clearly it was form over function.
I use xtra active and anti glare. It’s like the world is in hd mode all the time. Looks way diffrent than regular transitional lenses and a scratch coating that wears away from using the shirt to clean
Now, not all lens tint colors and intensities are created equal. Which one is best depends on lifestyle, occupation, and situation. Green is a good one for certain sports such as golf. Rose and the related tint FL41 (which sort of is a mix between pink and orange or brown, basically boysenberry coloured) is often recommended for those with migraine related photophobia. Yellow is the most common tint color for computer blue light glasses and night driving glasses. Gray and brown are more generic and good for the most occasions, even formal and serious ones(at least outdoors on bright days), they have minimal or no colour distortion and the latter gives a warm hue to surroundings. Blue lenses should generally be avoided like the plague according to many experts as too much blue light isn't good for the eyes. And most of the other colors available are best for casual, fun occasions, and are sometimes prescribed for dyslexia or irlen syndrome. As for intensities, anything 50% or below (categories one and two for those using that system) are okay for most situations inside, outside and during lower light conditions. The main exceptions are while at work in a corporate office or attending a somber, serious event like in court during proceedings (situations in which wearing glasses with even light tints is considered bad form and often against the actual written rules), although if you're light sensitive in which case etiquette and protocol generally take a back seat to one's comfort and health. Intensities of around 52% or higher (the category three and four tints) tend to really be rated for outdoor use in bright sunlight only.
Wow this is so informative! I’m a runner and I wish I could know more about sports sunglasses, their tints, purpose and learn how to spot fake ones. Especially polarized and tinted lenses!
Great video. I never thought glasses can be so cool and customizable. But I do have a serious nearsightness and no lens or frames can help with the look... thank you for putting the video together though.
@@thespectaclefactory Currently I am on -9.75 and -8.25 :( I am in HK, otherwise, I would definitely come visit your shop and let you help me with choosing the right pair.
@@red16m That's nice of you to say. We do have many international clients who we help via video call. I would suggest 1.9 index glass lenses, and they can be combined with a slight tint. They are super thin!
awesome insight on all type's of glasses!!! i need help!! finding the right pair for driving. when im looking at a RED light waiting for it to turn green and the SUN is right there im left blinded with spots that dont go away for awhile. i have no clue what what type of glasses to get... i dont want to go blind from the sun
Can i have my prescription glasses in gradient brown shade? Or this only apply indoor. I am a shy person and i wud really fee comfortable talking to another person with tinted eyeglasses. Gives me more confidence You just save me from spending a lot of money finding out the right lens. Thanks a lot. God bless!
i’ve bought 3 pairs of Cartiers from buffalo horn to ‘big C’ to ‘little C’ and I regret not seeing this before purchasing.. it’s difficult to envision the tints and gradients without actually seeing them ON the glasses.
CAZAL 6027 Great video. You have a knack for describing fashion along with practical tips that are so easy to digest. Thank you. Incidentally, I have a pair of Cazal 6027 in Crystal. You mentioned them in a recent video and suggested tinting them. I think I'd like to do that, just to give them a bit more contrast. I wonder what you might suggest for them. I have a similar skin tone to you. Maybe brown or green, 12%, would tie into the gold features of the glasses???
Thank you Klaus. Unfortunately they won't be releasing it until October here in the UK and my attempts to get samples early have been pushed back by Zeiss. Which is sad as I do a lot to support them
Depends on the brightness of your environment and how light sensitive you are. I alternate between 40% gradient blue, 50% sweet violet and 25% gradient Pistachio... the 25% is probably the safest choice. Whichever you want, we can make them for you if you like. And I can talk you through the options in more detail.
What a great video. Really good! I am thinking about getting a 25% tint for my next clear varifocals. I am planning to use them for some night driving also. I have never had a background tint before. Any downsides? I am just a little concerned about the night driving aspect.
9:12 That chart at bottom right. Im dumb, so the black circles and white circles. Does black circles mean not good for night? Or that those lens are good for night driving?
I have a pair of Jacques Marie mage Loewy in lava color, what tint would work on that one it’s my only pair of eyeglasses as I have two other dedicated sunglasses as well fulfilling that role. Really am impressed with content thus far, really like the sweet violet video.
You are amazing! I took your suggestion and ordered the Hoya sun pro verde/green 50% to 0% Gradient tint, 🤞🏿 can’t wait to get them in hand! Thank you again!
Can you give us an approximate price range for getting custom tinted lenses? I'd love to explore tints, but I'm concerned about costs... Let's say non-prescription, for the sake of simplicity. I understand that different frames equate to different levels of manufacturing complexity, so for our hypothetical, let's assume that we're deailing with something super-classic and full-rim. For instance, a wayfarer or aviator style sunglass.
Hi! I've been watching your videos for a while to kind of figure out what my toddler needs. She's 20 months old and she's really light sensitive outdoors or whenever we go that there's fluorescent lights. She wears prescription glasses and I just ordered a rose tinted pair from Axon Optics in the US for bright indoor situations. But I'm still unsure as to what's the best way to protect her eyes. Her outdoor pair of prescription sunnies don't seem enough in some situations. You seem very knowledgeable. What would you recommend in terms of tint and any other add ons for an indoor pair and also an outdoor pair? The information you gave on the mirror coating was very new too me. Thank you so so much! My daughter is too young to tell us what works better for her.
Hi Luisa, Thanks for your comment, and I appreciate your request for help with this... thank you. But it would be inappropriate for me to comment on your young daughter's care. You should consult with an opthalmologist or optometrist locally who can examine her eyes and make the right recommendaion. Dark + mirrored sunglasses may be beneficial in strong sunlight but might also limit her perception of the world.
I am sold on adaptive lenses after your video. Which colour would you recommend and what percentage of tint? I am mostly indoors BUT out and about walking outdoors for my work and also driving.
I personally like the brown gradient (75-25) so I would recommend that. With dual surface AR in your case. Would be glad to make them for you - email us hello@thespectaclefactory.com
Hi Robert, would love to know your choice of photofusion Lens tint on a brown/Havana Cutler and Gross 1386 frame. Of course the green tint is kind of most common, hence your thoughts will be very helpful.
Can you please make a video comparing the different graduated tint colors? Pistachio Vs Jeans, etc? Also, the same for the different colors of the 12% full lens tint? And more close up shots? Thank you for considering this request. Your videos are awesome!
I feel this is probably a rhetorical question, however, I just want to make sure... Are all of these 'tint/mirrored/sunglasses' ALSO prescription/varifocals? Thanks... and great videos btw!
Loving all you content mate, very helpful, only wish I was in the UK to visit you! From your videos, I'm contemplating my second pair of glasses for outdoors, either pioneer adaptive with duravision flash, or adaptive brown gradient with duravision sun.. Would the pioneer adaptive option above be suitable for inside? i.e. cafe, bar etc for reading menu? Or would a pioneer gradient with flash be more versatile? not sure of looks
We do have a lot of clients who fly over, but I understand that isn't feasible for most. So that's why we also offer virtual consultations via video call, where I can help you select the perfect frames and lenses. We then make them for you and send them out with free international shipping.
I live in a metro area i the US with a population of 2.5m people. There are just two Zeiss opticians here. One has all the Zeiss tech machines you have. Cool. But Zeiss will not offer Adaptive Sun in this country. It's like they have allowed Essilor to dominate, make that monopolize the US market. Their customer service will not answer email. I know I can order from you, but I really like person to person service for glasses. Potential problems are easier to address that way. After cateract surgery I reused my frames. One Red w/black temples to level 3 sun with full red mirror. One with glass Photogrey extra as work glasses, and a fun pair tinted rose that came out way too light. Ordered a remake yesterday and they insisted we start over because the head opticion wasn't satisfied either. I ordered a custom color mix; medium purple (lavender?) with a little added rose tint. Can't wait. Also had made Essilor Transitions GEN 8 Amethyst (mostly grey with a hint in reality) with a ruby flash. I had to insist on that combination. They had never made anything like them. The purplish red reflection is awesome. I don't think I will ever have clear lenses again. You are correct. Just do it! I must thank you for your passion and willingness to share. Many thanks. I have learned a lot, become envious and a lot poorer recently! LOL
I’m thinking of getting the drive safe lens. I have a problem with the bright lights at night for driving. Do you recommend any kind of yellow tent to go with it?
No, our night vision is objectively best through a clear lens (although, not always subjectively so) If you think you'd prefer a tint, I would recommend Hoya Enroute Pro - it's more of a specialised night driving lens (wheres DriveSafe is meant for everyday use + driving)
Thank you, it opens my eyes to choosing the right glasses and colour. It is really informative. May I ask if I want to try 12% tin or 25% 10% Tin for my Cartier Havana colour Acetate frame for women? What colour would it suit? Thank you for your advice.
It's exciting and it makes you want to have perfect glasses. I have an eye that goes sideways and I would like to hide it for my work. I am facing people sitting in front of my desk inside. I am thinking of 50-0% gradient tinted lenses or very light flash mirror treatment with 35% lenses. What do you think ?
I feel like I must be doing a good job, because you've followed exactly the right thought process here 👍 I'd recommend exactly the same and would be honoured to make them for you if you wanted
I just discovered your videos and love them! I've worn glasses almost my whole life so am invested in finding comfortable and stylish lenses. A request -- can you use a different camera to make these videos? They look low resolution, and I'd like to better see the glasses you demonstrate.
When you watch, did you select '4K'? Sometimes RU-vid doesn't select the highest quality automatically. We just invested a lot in new camera equipment this year and I believe we're putting out the best quality of any optical channel on RU-vid.
Thank you, great video. Is it possible to have a lens that has a moderate tint, plus adapative sun, and is good for both day and night driving? I particularly struggle with glare from oncoming car and street lights
Hi Zoe, thanks for the question... it's never a good idea to wear tinted glasses for night driving. DriveSafe technology would be your best bet, and that can be combined with PhotoFusion
@@thespectaclefactory thank you, that’s really helpful as I think I will now get separate night driving glasses 🤓 appreciate your advice, the sales girls at my optometrist are not the most knowledgeable
Great video!....do higher gradient percentages make the lenses darker?... and. do you always have to round up to 100% between top and bottom percentages on gradient glasses?... Thank you and keep it up!
I have red eyes from dry eyes that makes me self conscious. What color and tint percentage would you recommend to hide the red in my eyes without being too distracting of a tint
Hello, Robert. I recently subscribed to your channel and I thoroughly enjoy your videos. That being said, I am seeking a pair of eyeglasses that are smart and modern. I like your rounded frame style preference and it would suit my rectangular face shape. I want a color that compliments my fair skin tone which is similar to yours but with pinker cheeks (as you can see in my photo). I am gravitating toward a rimless frame (Silhouettes) that are timeless, affordable and versatile with my wardrobe for all occasions. If I buy a pair of frames, I am thinking dark charcoal grey or a dark chocolate color. Please advise.
I'd love to help style you with your next pair of glasses. Could you email me via rob@thespectaclefactory.com. It will be easier to communicate that way or we could even set up a video call if you prefer.
Which tint color options (12% uniform throughout and also gradient tints 25% etc) would you recommend for brown skin? My pair of glasses are Jacque Marie Mage Molino (Black) and Dita Flight 006 Gold frame aviator.
A 40% tint is much better for outdoors so in an urban environment, where one is going inside and outside, 40% is more appropriate. 25% is too pale for outdoor use, generally.
@@thespectaclefactory I meant, all the other Urban light gradient tints are 25% except for the blue gray tint which is 40%. Why is the blue gray tint the exception?
Love this video. Found this looking for advise with a progressive lens rx and needing a new pair of rx sunglasses. I have only had 1 previous pair with progressive polarized brown. I wanted polarized brown or rose gradient with a mirrored finished but was told I could only get a solid tint with polarized option. I like the adaptive sunglasses you mentioned but wonder if I would lose some clarity offered by the polarized option. I used them daily outside activities, driving etc but they were definitely too dark to wear inside. Any advise is appreciated thank you!
The standard general blue lens compared to the standard general orange lenses, what is the general percent of sun do they block out? I know the tints can get complicated, like mirror or fade or all the crazyness, but im talking about your average orange and average blue. And further example is the orange that he liked in this video, and compare to a blue tint that is comparable to the orange. Would would block out more sun then the other and if so hwatz the percents? BecUse i seen some websites say the orange is 70% light transmission, and blues are 66% light transmission. And others seem to say opposite. But just in general and for general tint in theze colors whatz the general percent
Appreciate your video plus you are just cute as a button. I'm struggling so bad finding an eye doctor to help me and wish I could find someone to help me too. I've wasted so much money and still can't see properly.
Hi, I'm looking for colored glasses that would be suitable for wearing in the office and behind the computer, but at the same time people wouldn't see that my eyes are red and tired? My eyes would be covered like wearing sunglasses. Thanks for the advice.
Hi, we can do this for you if you like, and we ship worldwide free of charge too! Contact us at www.thespectaclefactory.com/v-contact if your interested. -Haleemah
This is very informative. I have problem with sharp light in general and using screens a lot at work so my eyes get overused. At the same time I have a professionally calibrated home movie theater, and take pictures with a color calibrated Smartphone with Zeiss lenses - so I need precise colors and white balance. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to strike a balance? I think zeiss smartlife spectacles coild be part of the solution but haven't found tte possibility in my home country Denmark. Any thoughts?
@@thespectaclefactory Thank you for the response. I managed to find a Zeiss Vision Partner in my city, and have bought my glasses from him. Eagerly awaiting how it will change my outlook on things. He is not a young and upcoming optometrist so he did not recommend a tint, but they are smartlife glasses.
Hi Robert! I follow you from Italy ! Congrats for your great videos! Is it true that Blu Gard cannot be applied to bi gradient 25/10 % (Brown/Rose) Zeiss progressive lenses, but only to trasparent clear ones?
Yes, with the disadvantage being they have a yellowish tint. DriveSafe is great for everyday glasses which are also good for driving at night, whereas Enroute Pro is great for dedicated driving glasses
Hey, I would like to order a pair of cartier big C glasses to use as everyday/all situation glasses . I would like a tint to add some style to it but I don’t want the tint to hinder/change my everyday sight. I don’t want to see the world in blue all off a sudden. What type of tint would you recommend? Thanks in advance Mate, love the content
Hi, first of all excellent choice! Secondly, why don't you book a virtual consultation with Rob and he'll go through all of the possible options with you and help you choose the perfect lenses. Drop us an email at hello@thespectaclefactory.com and one of our team will be in touch :) - Hal
I'm looking into rimless frames, and I'm trying to decide whether to get a solid tint or gradient. I like gradient in general, but I'm not sure if a rimless frame would look better with solid tint 🤔. I was thinking 15-20 if I did a solid tint, and 25 if I did a gradient. What would you recommend??
