2yr old video still getting comments 👍 awesome. I also run a larger brush down the post holes in the keg before putting the tubes back in. Most of the time there's nothing there because, like you, I clean everything right away. But it doesn't hurt to run a brush through, and it takes like 2 seconds, so it's a no brainer. On brew days I clean as I go so there's less to do when I'm done brewing. I'm liking the channel so far. (I'm new here) Cheers!
Thank you for the idea of the pipe cutter. I just bought it from Amazon. My stupid ass was going to cut it with a pair of metal clippers, and you saved me! :-) My kegging is backed up something fierce, and I'm happy with this solution. Tom from NJ
Man, am I glad I found your channel. Every video is made with love, I can tell. As soon as that stimulus check hits the bank, I'm going full send with an all grain system. 🤘
Thanks for this video! All this time, I had assumed that just soaking Star San in my kegs would be enough to clean them. I would run some Co2 into the keg and pump out water, thinking that the Star San would sanitize everything. I disassembled one of my kegs and took out the dip tube and ran a brush through it. Wow, was it filthy! Now, I'm going to clean every one of my kegs thoroughly to ensure that they're 100% sterile when I pump in my homebrew.
I was given a corny keg along with all my brewing equipment from my brother in-law, so thanks for this. I won't miss all the "nooks and crannies" of that keg now. Another great piece from this, is he gave me PBW and I was wondering if there was a more cost effective alternative, and just over a minute there it was. Thanks! I'm so happy I stumbled onto your videos, the really are great!
Video Format Opinion: Hi brother. I'm a professional brewer at Big Boss Brewing in Raleigh, NC and also an amateur gaming RU-vidr (shameless channel plug). Wanted to share my 2 cents about the new format since you asked. My personal opinion, I'm into it. This was far more informative than other videos and even though you still cracked jokes and had fun with it, it seemed far more professional. Although I enjoyed watching previous episodes, I thought the format was a little too "old school Epic Meal Time" if you catch my meaning. I think the newer format is a better balance for people that want to seriously learn while still being entertained. Thanks for all you do! Looking forward to the next episode!
yeah usually our videos are like 90% voice over with b roll, but this new solo production / quarentine one man show was 0% v/o is a lot longer. Thanks for the feedback!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE you went more in depth, gave practical, cost effective solutions, and I think you did a great job of making it understandable for even a novice. Well done
Thank you for the video. Everything I've learned about home brew, diy, and MBC, I learned from you guys. Looking forward to being able to travel again and checking out BattleMage and the other breweries you've mentioned in videos.
I found a gun barrel cleaning rope (small gauge rope with two brass weighted ends) perfect for cleaning dip tubes. Cost £1 from military surplus, even chucked in some cloth. Will last forever👍🏻
Your forgot the PRV my man. Unlikely to need a clean but i always have a look now and again. Nothing wrong with this format, very enjoyable. Slainte, from ireland 🇮🇪
Gracias CH for another dope HB4L installment. I go (OCD) one step further and clean out the PRV because maybe the Mormon Utah water but my PRV's get stuck open, usually when I'm already low on gas. Good point on cleaning the dip tubes - I need to do that more often. I want that little pick tool you have. Covid blows. Enough of my ramblings... Thanks for the shout out. Cheers - George
Glad I found your video CH, I remembered that you made this, and I needed to be sure it was OxiClean. I started using it and swapped StarSan for PAA since is also WAAAAAAY cheaper and works like a charm.
HOMEBREW 4 LIFE update: snagged some off offerup. I am doing the switch from bottles to keg #thankyoustimuluscheck. I got 2 of them and the insides looks pretty sticky on the walls. Would you recommend scrubbing it with a sponge with warm water and PBW ? Or should I use my carboy brush?
Well, I guess I'm starting to brew beer this winter. RU-vid... you did it again! Great videos! Thanks for all the great information. Keep the videos coming :)
I wish I saw this a couple months ago. Seems like I got it right tho. If you flatten the loop on the brush, you can twist a length of wire to it and pull the brush all the way thru. No worry about crud in the middle.
After looking for a bit I didn't see anyone address the different color O-rings. One of the small colored O-rings are for pin lock kegs. Red is for pin lock, and teal is for corny kegs.
Bro Loved your vid, learned alot from this video! Do you ever remove the top and bottom cover? I scored a couple of kegs and the top/bottom covers is vomit bacteria city. Previous owner left gaps in the glue and bacteria built up in between the spaces, is a hell of a job to get the crap out :( Any tips for SERIOUSLY dirty kegs (inside)
Not gunna lie, I cleaned the dip tubes in 2 of my kegs this weekend. The pipe cleaner went in white and came out yellow/green. I've been serving that crap to my friends for so long. I always thought the overpriced PBW cleaned it enough without scrubbing. Wrong!
Love all your videos. I've brewed before at my buddies house but just bought my own rig this week so I've been watching the shit out of your videos all week! Thanks for all the info man! PS did you ever up that video of the carbonated sangria? sounds tasty
Heads up that the brushes in the link are actually only 8 inches long now. But it's get you to Amazon and you will see 10 - 12" brushes for just a few dollars more.
I watched the entire video! I like this style. Keep up the good work! Have you every tried "Keg lube "when assembling your kegs? I use it and things seem to fall into place a little better and no air leaks. Looking forward to your next video!
11:15 Unedited manditory beer chug! LMAO... Rolling on the floor. Dude I'm watching these nearly a year later from Temec SoCAL...love the vids. Extremely helpful! Maybe do a SoCal top ten brewery vid as we get closer into opening up this State.
I have (12) 2-1/2 gallon glass water bottles, just like your 5 gallon bottle. I guess I'll use 2 bottles at a time for one keg, agreed? I'm open to ideas, thanks
Sick videos. Watching from Australia. Any chance you could do a video explaining how the addition of hops and times of addition affect the final flavour of the beer. Your honest, DIY way of doing things is sweet. Dark ale, Vegemite beer experiment would be a sick vid too... might taste like shit!
People way over think cleaning kegs. Rinse it out, Fill with hot water and oxiclean use an air compressor and transfer the hot water to your next keg from beer out to beer out posts. Rinse it and your done. No disassembly required. Keep your hops contained so they don't clog everything up and no need to take apart. Well maybe once and awhile but not every time
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE I normally clean about 5 kegs at a time this way. I did forget to mention let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes with an occasional shake before transferring to the next keg. Get a cheap air compressor to save co2. Love your site. Super entertaining. Thanks to you I might have to try making a hard seltzer. Been resisting the requests from friends to give it a go.
