How To Clean A DVD or CD For Disc Errors 

I had the urge to play Kingdom Hearts 1 on the PS2.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I made the mistake of putting a DVD on my TV tray 'read-side down'. There was some chicken crumbs, and grease residue, that I neglected to clean up, and it got on my disc. The isopropyl alcohol worked great! I let it sit for a few minutes. Instead of paper towels, I used a clean cotton shirt/cloth. I googled 'can paper towels scratch glass', and there are a number of articles on what not to use paper towels for, since they, or the debris they capture, can scratch certain surfaces. To be fair; after I cleaned the disc I inserted it, and skipped to random spots of the movie without watching the entire thing from start to finish. I wasn't in the mood to watch the whole thing in that moment, but wanted to get the gist if it would at least Play. Based on that quick check/test, the movie seemed to function normal -- no skips/freeze ups. Thanks again for sharing.

First I cleaned my DVD with dish soap under running tap water (soft water), while gently rubbing it with my fingers (no sponge). Afterwards I put it shiny surface up on a clean towel and sprayed 99% isopropyl alcohol on it. I carefully patted it dry with a very clean microfibre cloth. Works just as new.

Thanks for the tips. I have never had to clean a cd or dvd. I never touch the surface. Always “edge only”. Always keep in the case or in the player. So far so good. 👍👍👍

There is a very simple way to clean your discs. Rinse under a tap, the use liquid soap, as you said, make sure there's no particles on there or rubbing it will scratch it, then simply rinse it off give it a few good shakes. Depending on your water it may leave residue after drying so try to shake as much water off as possible, if there's anything left after that just gett a cotton pad with a small amount of IPA and get that off carefully. Been selling games for years and that method gets them as good as they can be. If they still misbehave you simply need to send it to a disc refurbisher (if it's worth it).

Hey i might be 5 years late but you really don’t want to use a paper towel because it might scratch your disk. Try using a tissue or something made if cloth instead. Also if it doesn’t work at first, try pressing a little harder. Some people get scared of it snapping but it won’t be a problem as long as you are careful.

Get a box of 100 wipes that are designed to clean wearing glasses, sunglasses, cameras...they seem to do the job.

I tried this on one of my old dirty games that doesn't boot on my PS4 and even though I didn't have high hopes about the disc working when I tried it, it booted up and even better sometimes when it boots up it would crash but it didn't crash thank you so much.

That is exactly what I've been doing .. I use 90% isopropyl alcohol and then give it a little second rinse with bottled water, yes, wipe radially only .. wipe the edges, and let it dry. Cheers ........

I've got this problem: tracks 10-13 have playback problems, last songs of the disc. Visually I didn-t see any scratches or shit but I went over it with a toothpaste anyway (it has worked in the past on other discs). This time it didn.t work, last tracks still had playback problems. Any ideas?

I got the nut crackers from phase 4 films put yesterday I put it on my DVD player but it was still glitching

So when I buy cd packs, the last couple tracks always skip and fast forward or just stop. Will this work to solve my problem? Because I have 10s of cds that always skip, fast forward or stop, but only at the end. Could be 10 or 30, but only the last few songs always do this

Ah yes. Super satisfying Back in the day when ya discs would freeze and play up and you clean them and then try it again and it works perfectly. I looked this up cause I was looking for an answer to the age old question. When cleaning it does circle motions matter or should you clean it in straight lines from the inside going out. And yep, I knew it. This is how I used to do it. I would always cringe when at people's houses and they wod straight way just get a rag or something with not even cleaner of any type and just go to town scrubbing it round and round. The only discs I had to clean were ones I brought second hand. Every one I brought new I always took care of which I've always been proud of. To this day my old ps2 discs are still looking brand new. I never let the bottom side touch anything. People I saw never cared. They just through them around, bottom side down and literally just tossed them around.

Dudes actually right works really good DVD wasn't scratched up that bad in the first place but would skip a couple of episodes that I never got to watch done what he said but instead of alcohol all I had was peroxide still worked really good though wiped it off with a pair of cotton basketball shorts

I tried this method on a semi new dvd that fingerprints and it left a bit of light scratches on it(dvd still played fine).i would recommend this method for used dvds.for better condition dvds I use an anti static microfiber cloth with a multis urface spray cleaner and it leaves NO scratches.

I just cleaned a dvd that was freezing and jerky frame movement so watching utubers do dishwashing soap, toothpaste and alcohol I did all 3 in that order with circular motion and inside to outside swipes and disc works perfect now. So there you go!

I take a cotton ball, put rubbing alcohol on it and rub gently all over the disc. Then take a microfiber cloth and dry it off. Good as new.

didnt have any alcohol cleaner - I used household 'Mr Sheen (multi surface polish)' ; DVD worked completely fine afterward. nb: MrSheen is UK brand.
