FYI: Electronics manufacturers usually use de-ionized water for cleaning their boards, so water is not necessarily 'bad'. BUT, you need to thoroughly dry them before use.

The trick to prevent the fans spinning is to block their movement, i typically use small cable ties and jam them in between the fan blades for the CPU, power supply and any auxiliary fans that maybe connected. Then use a small leaf blower to clean the dust out, it's pretty effective. Remember to blow in different directions to remove the most dust. Then don't forget the remove the cable ties before turning on the PC.

I'm extremely late to the party good video. One bit advice i would give is when using compressed air Do Not let the fans spin with the air. Hold the fan you are cleaning as it will potentially break the bearings.

Thanks for the help, me and my dad wanted to fire up his 1996 pc build with windows 95 and it was so dusty the fans won’t spin up and there was 7 spiders. He hasn’t used it since 2006

I just dip mine in some boiling water Then dip it in some alcohol sanitizer and then place it in microwave at 70 degrees for at least 48 hours

when using the air can, it should held straight and not in an angle cuz the chemicals inside (that create the air) may go out and damage the pc parts.

I just looked at my PC that I built a year and a half ago (the first PC I've ever built) and it legit looked like the computer in the video. Welp, I guess imma head on down to the store and get a couple cans of compressed air and follow this video tomorrow to give my baby some love.

I dip mines in Mineral oil so I don't have to worry about dust and i can overclock everything to the extreme!

Many ways to blow out dust... one of the costliest and least effective... using canned air. If you are going to routinely clean out your PC(s) of dust, invest in either a purpose-built electric dust blower, or get something like a small handheld shopvac with a PC kit (hooked up to the exhaust). You get a much stronger airflow than canned air, and a huge cost savings over time... canned air is expensive and quickly adds up.

Last time I cleaned my pc, I couldn’t get access to canned air so what I did instead was wipe everything down with Clorox wipes (any alcohol based wipes should do fine), but I didn’t go super in-depth about it, mainly cleaning the fans and motherboard and any other dusty area, then I waited for it to dry for a few hours and checked, now my pc runs smoothly with no crashes or errors. I still recommend getting canned air ASAP because it makes cleaning those tough spots WAY easier and you don’t have to worry about things like screws catching your cleaning cloth or about moisture

Dunno man, compressed air cans seem very pricey in the longer-term. Why not just get a small leafblower at low-medium power(with a rubber tube)?

There's some dust stuck in the cpu heatsink. And I think the fan on it is designed in such a way to never come off without breaking it

i use only my regular vacuum cleaner carefully and was good enough!! i try to do this removing dust procedure maybe once at one month or one month and a half and is ok!

also electric air duster like compucleaner air duster is only 40 bucks but gives 5-10 times more powerfull air than air can and is not coming liquid from it, like from a can if you flip it - liquid comes out

Or you could grab pure water, it's not cheap but good for cleaning electronics since it's so pure that it's just water itself with no minerals making it great to clean a pc, just pour it onto your motherboard or whatever you want, if you have money to buy it

I am watching this on RU-vid the day after I asked my brother to open my computer so I could clean all the dust from the inside. _I think the dust was making the computer shut off randomly. I'd turn off the power to the PC, and later turn it back on, which was 50/50._ Now I am amazed the PC hasn't shut off since I turned it on this afternoon.

I'm a smoker and that dust that you easily blew out of your heat sink is more like a sticky glue in mine. How should I address that? Yes, I'll start smoking in a different room.

Coincidentally, I end up cleaning my PC every 2 years and everytime I clean it it's actually not that dusty. Idk why. I do like to keep my room clean and tidy so maybe that could be a reason

I need to point out there is absolutely no chance you will blow off capacitors etc. and if you do your board was faulty to begin with . . .

'try to keep your compressed air at least 20cm away from the motherboard.' you just made that up and have no real reason why I can't and in the video you got very close to the PCs components. 'Hold your fans still, don't let them spin' you gave no reasoning and this from my knowledge is incorrect anyways. 'if your take all of the components out you can wash the case, just make sure it is dry before you put the components back in' oml, that is the absolute dumbest thing you could tell your viewers. You are just assuming what types of cases they have. Water can wreck bad plastic and can rust old metal cases. Lastly, there where multiple tips you repeated through the video to make it longer. End of rant.

Arent you supposed to hold down the fans when blowing into them to not let them spin?

Unfortunately for me, I have to clean more often than 2 to 3 months. Otherwise my computer will collect strings of dust that just hangs from the fins of my fans. It gets really gnarly. Doesn't help that I have it on the floor underneath my desk, which is carpeted. It's too big to fit on my desk, so I have to keep it on the floor with a large slab of wood underneath it to keep the PSU from suffocating. So it's pretty much a once a month ordeal for me. It's also my least favorite part of the hobby. But I want to keep lower temperatures and higher frame rates, so it's worth it.
