Before I got a rubber case, one time they fell out of my pocket and bounced a short way down a rock. That gave the case a few very small dents. I was surprised that was all it did though! The AirPods case is tough!

Clean your ear everyday after a shower. Use pinky finger in a damp washcloth, that will keep the ear wax under control

I use an unused toothbrush for the mesh grills, it rlly works for waxy ears as it gets the wax out the grills and makes them louder, you can also push into the grill and it won't break

for the hard to reach parts (also on phone) i like to use wooden toothpicks. the are not entirely hard so you don't destroy anything. also fabrics stick to it because it’s surface is not totally smooth. works pretty well

The volume on my AirPods has been really low for over a month now and I tried just about every solution I could find on youtube and nothing worked until I saw this video. The toothbrush method worked for my AirPods. I'm so happy. Thank you!!

I have used an old toothbrush and water in het past. Put the brush down with the hairs facing upwards and gently try to get the hairs through the grill and thus cleaning it. Make sure you don’t get any water in the earphones in themselves! Afterwards you want to gently press the grill against some kind of cloth/towel to get all the water and debris out. (Used this for my EarPods and it works very well.)

If you listened to what he was saying its not that complicated i dont think its really necessary to actually show the dirty airpods to understand. If you have had your pods for a few years you might find that this does work. The wax passes through the mesh and gradually builds up on the inside creating low volume sound. The only way to clear this is to remove the mesh. Unfortunately, this also means destroying it - nice build Apple! I did this by getting a strong sharp needle and sticking just through at one end so as not to damage the internal workings then, prise the mesh out. I found the rear side of the mesh was caked in wax. The pods now sound great and I am experimenting with different materials as a barrier to stop wax getting in. Be careful if you do this, you don't want bits going inside your ear! I would like to the opportunity to thank zollo for this excellent video also, Apple for their excellent botch design job on the non-removable grill. Edit: My grill solution. Fine cloth mesh (muslin) about 5mm x 20 mm, attached using double sided tape at each end, placed over the opening at top and bottom so as not to cover sensors. It will probably need replacing occasionally. Not pretty but it works and is also sanitary, unlike that filthy wire mesh!

You can also use acetone to swipe away spots (discolorations) that wont come off inside the case or elsewhere. Just dip a q-tip in it & swipe over the spots fast.

Disinfect these with rubbing alcohol and then go in and use a sticky clay substance and the dirt in the speakers will come out. No washing needed.
