Wow! I have found my pump for three years now I’ve never been shown to twist it to the second position to clean the foams! I am on a mission this year to have crystal clear pond water so I’m hoping that this is going to help do the trick. I’ve checked everything else. Thank you for the very clear short and precise video.😊 Suzio
Many thanks. I am having difficulty pumping the handle so should I open it up to clean the filters or persevere pumping? Also when I remove the blanking cap there is a steady stream of water rather than a small trickle even before moving the dial. Aso what size is the stepped threaded horsetail for the waste? Many thanks
Brilliant, ours is slightly different 31000 but so easy to do,good work out too if it's been left afew wks.thankyou,we would of struggled if I hadn't watched your video..👍😁
Thanks for getting back to me no is the honest answer I've just removed the housing and cleaned all the sponges think I might have to do this until the pond clears must admit the was clear before I installed it
tedmacd148 You really need to start with a clean pond. It’s difficult for me to help remotely. I installed a 16000 today, but cleaned the pond out first. ☝🏼
Looking into buying the oase 8000 and it also comes with a clear section to see the water. Why dont you use yours? Did it break? Is your filter still running good? How durable are they? Please let me know because if it doesnt hold up good, I'll pass on it. Ty
I recommend you look at the current range of FiltoClears: 5000, 13000, 19000, 31000. Use 38mm or 50mm hosing which will enable you to use the clear hose connector. The FiltoClear in the video is an older style (16000) which I modified for use with 32mm hose, which is why you do not see the clear return hose connector. I don’t recommend using less than 38mm hosing.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 ty so much for your reply, i really appreciate it!! The model im looking into is the 8000. I dont know how new it is but it is a current model. So all in all, you'd still recommend this brand?
@@high_fructose_corn_syrup I'm based in the Uk and we don't have the '8000'. I must install 30 to 40 (and growing) FiltoClears every year, so yes, I recommend them. Excellent brand - from experience.
Hi I've not long installed the 20000 oase filter when am cleaning the filters am losing a lot of water out the pond and it's still not running clear water at this rate I'd be filling the pond up every time I clean the filters can you help please
Dugon38 Bauden Hi. I installed this BioTec ScreenMatic2 90,000 for a client. His pond is 30,000 litres and only has 5 small koi. No other fish and no plants either. I am a big fan of these filters.
Thank you Richard - very useful. I moved here from the United States and on my water feature in South Carolina I had a biofilter that didn't require any maintenance. So this has been particularly helpful for me.
Great explanation and walk through. I have the Filtoclear 8000 which operates the same way. Question - How often would you expect to have to do this cleaning? I've got a 1500 gallon pond with about eight 4-6" koi. Filter has been installed almost a year. I notice every other day or so the flow to the waterfall spillway seems diminished. Time to replace the foam media?
Scott Cramer FiltoClear 8000? The FiltoClear range is as follows: 3000; 6000; 12000; 16000; 20000 and 30000. I am going to assume you mean the 12000 as it comes with the AquaMax Eco Premium 8000 pump. You will probably find that you will need to upgrade your FC 12000 to the largest in the range (30000 SET) as the koi grow. Generally, I find that it's best to replace the foam set yearly, particularly in a koi pond. Replace the blue foams first, followed by the red ones 4 weeks later.
Will do. It's definitely having a rough time keeping the water clear. I'm thinking the incessant sunlight is causing microscopic algae blooms in the water. Can only see a few inches down in before it's completely murky.
They did make an 8000. Check www.pondusa.com/product/oase-filtoclear-8000-pressure-filter/ but I wish I'd known they were going to discontinue it almost immediately after I bought it. Wow, for a 1500 gallon pond, I doubled filtration for fish, then doubled again for koi - and I'm still under filtered!? Oy. It wouldn't be terrible except that was already $600 for the model I have. Thanks for the info on changing filter sets. I did not see this reply at first; only your other one. Appreciate you taking time.
I just started using one of these filters for my pond. When I switch the dial to filter after 1 to 2 mins the flow stops to almost zero. It only works in backwash mode or at 90 degrees but pointing away from actual filter. Any ideas?
Mike Elsey which model do you have? It sounds like the pump is going in to standby mode to protect itself from over-heating. This will happen if there is excessive back pressure. 1) Use 38mm or 51mm hose only. 2) Make sure you have cut down the stepped hose-tails accordingly. 3) Check that you haven't got your 'in' and 'out' hoses crossed: i.e have you connected the hose from the pump to the correct connection on the filter? 4) Undertake a full drain and clean on your pond before installing a (new) filter system. The foams inside the filter might already be saturated with muck? Open filter and take a look. 5) Avoid tight bends in the hosing, and long runs of hose.
FishLife The pump is a blagdon force hybrid 16000, new as the old one just packed up, the lad who cleans and maintains the pond always sets up 2 filters inline and the pump also feeds a waterfall which is around 2m above the pump. I didn't realise that pump had a shutdown mode so I thought that there was an issue with filter. I am thinking that I need to remove one of the filters?
Mike Elsey I was referring to the AquaMax Eco Premium pumps. They have a 'standby' mode. I don't know about the force hybrid. You definitely shouldn't use two FiltoClears in tandem.
Richard, still having issues with filter. Firstly the cleaning handle is partly stuck on one side and I have to clean the filters very 10 to 12 hours or the flow stops. I think that the pond may be over stocked.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 mine has about 3000-3500, this could be the system for me. How long do the filters last and how much are they? Thanks Richard, appreciate your quick reply, jason
Jason Wilson Jason, it could well be, but to be honest I can’t say for sure without visiting your pond. The foams will last up to three years before they need replacing. I’m some cases they need replacing yearly. I install about 25 FiltoClears each year.
That’s a really helpful description. I’ve run two of these pressurised filters for some years and never realised you should only turn the blue dial anti-clockwise or that there’s a position dedicated to cleaning out the uv chamber....
