In each oven cleaning challenge we test different methods to find the fastest and easiest way to clean an oven. This is a tough job with lots of grease and baked on food that's been there for a long time. This tough job calls for the Dupray Tosca steam cleaner and Zep industrial strength degreaser!
Oven Cleaning PRODUCTS IN VIDEO:
Optional: a brush, this is a grout brush but it is stiffer than other brushes

Step 1: Remove oven racks and treat them overnight with ammonia. Turn on steam cleaner to heat up.
Step 2: Scrape out any food particles or loose debris inside the oven with a stiff brush. Vacuum it up.
Step 3: Spray everything with Zep degreaser and close oven door. Let sit for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Use the steam cleaner with the steel brush attachment and stainless steel pad to clean.
Step 5: Wipe down with a microfiber cloth.
A dirty oven can easily take an hour or more to clean. Can you avoid caustic chemicals that burn your lungs and skin? Can I get it down to 30 minutes or less? Do natural cleaning solutions work? How about a steam cleaner? What's the best way to clean an oven? At the end of my experiments, I'll create a video with my favorite method.
I've cleaned a lot of ovens, but never with a mission like this one!

We did this test with a steam cleaner and degreaser because I hate fumes from oven cleaner or the smell/pain of self cleaning ovens.
In the past I was a purist who only used a steam cleaner but now I use all the tools I can. I didn't even use the attachments for the steam cleaner.
The Dupray Tosca cleans with water heated to 315 degrees (steam) and pressure without damaging surfaces. Dupray also has the Neat which costs a lot less but I pulled out the industrial Durpray for this big job.
If you hire out cleaning an oven it's going to cost you $30 or more. So think of it as you're saving $30 an hour when you do it yourself.
I used the industrial degreaser because restaurants use it and this oven is super greasy!

For cleaning oven door glass, you should check the metal retainer on the top of the oven door when you open it. I'm not sure whether it's applicable on every cooker model, but on various models you open the oven door, lift the metal retainer up or slide it off (the white part on that cooker by the look of it). This gives you access to the the front glass plate so you can lift it out and clean inside. This is so you don't have to take the door off or use a fly swatter!

@CleanFreakGermaphobe

Yes I get that and we have an older video with a steam cleaner only. It still took a long time. I wondered if it would speed it up with a degreaser. Nope. My goal is to find the quickest easiest way or to test what makes the biggest difference. No or low chemical is ideal to me but it isn't always effective.

@CleanFreakGermaphobe

We get asked this a lot. There are many reasons. It overheats your kitchen for hours. It has fumes.. The extreme heat can damage your oven. Bad for pet birds and the gasses can kill them. This is a healthier alternative that’s safer.

My pressure washer trigger doesn't have a lock. I have a zip tie around the handle, just tight enough not to slide over the trigger when not engaged. When I want to lock it on, I pull the trigger down and slide the zip tie up around the trigger. When done, slide it back down. Wonder if that might help you. The Tosca is heavy and made of steel so it’s professional level. Honestly, I use my Neat more but I use the Tosca for bigger messes because it holds more water and you don’t have to refill it as often. Plus it’s stronger. Steam temperature - Neat Affects the effectiveness and speed to clean, sanitize, degrease or deodorize. 275°F Neat 316°F Tosca Steam pressure The higher the steam pressure, the easier it will be for heavy duty jobs. 50 psi / 3.5 bar Tosca 72.5 psi / 5 bar Neat Hope that helps, thanks for using our link if you decide to purchase one. www.cleanfreakandgermaphobe.com/dupray

What if the owner used foil at the bottom and some stuck. Not alot less than a palm size. Should the self cleaning be done?
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 3 года назад
I wouldn't. Can you scrape it off with a spatula? Or you can put oven cleaner on and let it sit. Then try to get it off. Good luck and if you remember, let us know how it goes We try to discourage using foil at the bottom of the oven. A pan on the bottom rack or an oven liner is recommended. I know you know that but in case anyone reading this wonders...
@mattkelly7338
@mattkelly7338 2 года назад
Never place anything on the base of a oven (including a pan like suggested) as the element under the base needs to allow for heat to escape and circulate. If you place a pan on the bottom as the lady suggested you risk overheating the base and causing cracks and splits to appear. Melted n foil has most likely fused to the base and oven cleaner will not remove that, doing so will damage the oven further.

Maybe isolate the power to your oven before cleaning - the oven light is on. Is death by electrocution worth a clean oven? The professional oven cleaners have specialist equipment, industrial sized ultrasonic cleaners. They know how to dismantle ovens properly, and reassemble them again. The average domestic clean will miss the built up grease under seals and inside the glass. Not to sure about using a vacuum cleaner on the loose debris. It's usually greasy, and could ruin your expensive vacuum cleaner.

Thanks for your coming comment. I wonder why it's not in owners manuals in the section about cleaning. I'll do this from now on when I can. I did in my most recent oven cleaning video because of comments on this thread. It's odd that even in the professional cleaners group I'm in people don't unplug. This wasn't my house or oven. I have a gas oven and it's a wall oven. So I've never had to unplug it and didn't know it was a safety issue.

@@orelco5221 No does that and no one ever will. If what you are saying is true, provide some data on people that have been killed because their oven was plugged in when they were just cleaning it. We'll wait.

Please do not vacuum greasy stuff, it will damage the vacuum on the long run and extremely difficult to clean the internals of the vacuum, yet thanks for the video 😊

Waaaayyy to much work, she shouod have just used the self clean mode. Turned every thing to ash and steamed it out.
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 9 месяцев назад
That mode is toxic and can’t be used if you have pet birds. So people look for an alternative method without fumes, high heat and chemicals. Or if you don’t have a free hours to run the cycle.

Sure I would love to spend $900 on a steamer to clean my oven. Why not just buy a new stove would not cost any more.

Yes but some choose not to use it because of the toxic emissions and heat it puts out.
