Sam Adams makes sure their labels are easy to remove for homebrewers, those are the main bottles I save to clean and reuse anymore.

I fully agree and appreciate it. Not sure if you are aware and not sure if they still do this but when anyone came to work for Sam Adams brewery, even the ladies working in their office were required to brew at least one batch to better understand what it took to brew beer. Many use to just learn in a kitchen with a few pots which I felt was awesome as it is really the basics that all home brewers should experience.

Just about to brew my first batch! However, I read other places you shouldn't rinse with tap water after using star san, just dry it upside down. It supposedly defeats the purpose since tap water isn't sanitary. Thoughts on that?
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 года назад
I know my tap water is close to sterile as I smell the chlorine in it. Sadly the water here in Jacksonville, FL is overly bleached to avoid someone from getting sick due to any contamination. I would always assume the water from your tap is safe for most locations in the U.S. and other major countries but you could always have it tested. I would say "Don't fear the foam" but with health issues that aren't obvious I avoid chemicals as much as humanly possible but I always want everything to be as clean as possible too. (Double edged sword). I've had a few too many heart surgeries due to electrical issues but I have triggers and chemicals and pollution are #1 triggers for me so I simply play it as safe as possible. If you are really scared of your tap water and don't want the foam in your beer, you could always boil a little tap water to use as rinse water as it cools a bit.

Awesome and Thank you. I did these for a while and loved them but a few people said they were distracting which after watching a few I had to agree but miss playing them in the background and off camera in between videos. Once I get to our new house in about a year I might bring it back from time to time.

Is the oxi-clean going to clean the crap out of the bottom of my bottles, or just the labels? I'm that horrible home brewer that tosses his empties into a box in the basement and I'm just trying to clean spores out of my bottles...I need something to loosen them up before sanitizing.
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 3 года назад
Sorry I saw this comment in my notifications but had a problem locating it. Oxyclean will do both but personally PBW does work a bit faster but is more expensive (I've been testing both lately and prefer PBW as I'm impatient and Oxyclean seems to take a little longer to break the label glue down on some). It will help sanitize them but you would want to rinse the bottles really good too. Star San is highly recommended for rinsing the bottles clean before use but I've skipped that step from time to time without ill effects. The key is to make sure as soon as you r pour a beer from a bottle that you rinse it good so you don't end up with any nasty stuff inside that is hard to get out later.

Just remember you are sanitizing not sterilizing with star san
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 3 года назад
Good point I will mention that in an upcoming video as I get confused as many people seem to use them as if they are the same but after looking up the difference they are very close to the same but sterilize is 100% vs sanitize which means to reduce microorganisms to a safe level. Thank you again for bringing that to my attention.

That is good to hear as a few of those bottles were German Dunkel bottles and the labels fell right off.

Hi... sir can i use "suma j-512 diversey" as a no rinse sanitizer.. does anyone tried it already? Thank u in advance
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 года назад
Although I am not familiar with Suma j-512 from what I am reading, it is certified as a "no rinse" food safe sanitizer so I would say yes but I'd still rinse to be super safe but being a "No Rinse" food safe sanitizer in the U.S. requires a certification that is very expensive and J-512 appears to have this certification so it should be very safe.

Yep, as I am always trying brews that I've never had especially if they aren't local. Now when I go to a local eatery I always ask what they have on tap that is local so I still support my local breweries too. If they don't have anything local or craft I just drink tea.

You can pre-sanitize and then just use them on bottling day?
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 года назад
Yes, but I never like to let them sit too long before bottling as you'd be shocked at how much dust is naturally in the air.

i bottle 16 oz beers . i always drop a tablespoon of everclear in each bottle because -- duh . im trying a dark , bottling today . im gonna hit them with one tblspoon each of course primer sugar but im also going to hit each with one tblspn of molasses . fermentation always eats up all your sugar then you are sometimes left with a tart beer . i just washed my bottles , rinsed with starsan for the first time ever . ive got the bottles in a tree but the foam concerns me slightly . i spose itll be gone as they dry .
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 года назад
Although that seems like a lot of sugar for a priming, if it works for you then all good. As for the foam it will almost all drip out in a bottle tree although I do hit mine with a final rinse of water as I have some heart related issues and chemicals set me off easily so I'm just being overly cautious as I hate going to the hospital.
@searcymasonry

@@BitterRealityBrewing thats actually one tbsp of sugar / water syrup . i make beer with my rainwater system so a final rinse might negate the sanitizing effects of the starsan . i just got a bottle rinse attachment for my kitchen sink . its a chinese piece of crap and dont work as claimed but ive modified it and its still wonderful for both washing and rinsing bottles . took a ton of work out of the process .

Trick with Star San to avoid foam.... fill bucket first, then add the star san and simply stir to mix in
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 года назад
Yep! Or use low foaming Star San alternatives but the foam really helps with the cleaning too.

Try mayonnaise.. rub on the glue... 30 mins later... rub again.. done. Rinse bottles with hot water right before - a tip.

Gummy sticki glue can be removed by :) vegetable oil (sunflower), but then you have to wash off the oil :)

Great suggestion and I've used olive oil to clean up goo from stickers but on other things, not bottles. I will say liquid dish soap helps a lot to for the outside of the bottle and it is slippery almost like oil.

Yep, I keep a small jar of coconut oil from Dollar Tree. I like it better because it doesn't drip all over the place.

Hopefully you can translate this but I think you are saying not to rinse which I normally would agree but I have auto immune issues which require me to avoid most chemicals so to be safe I always rinse the majority of it to be safe.

😂😂😂 I know you might be me messing with me but I might actually have to try this. I do know that WD40 will remove glue residue so to me it kind of sounds in line with that. Hell I HIGHLY recommend mustard for burns and have proven it with only one blister in years and that was from 3rd degree burns all over my forearm which you can occasionally see the scar on my right arm in these videos (poured boiling oil over my entire forearm) and the blister was on a less burnt area and very small.

@@BitterRealityBrewing Mayo works because of the oils in it. Easier and cheaper to just use straight oil. I use the cheap Dollar Tree coconut oil. Rub on and let sit atleat 30 min. Good soapy water to wash off the oil.

You are wasting way too much water. And why oxi clean for removing labels ? Just use hot water and let it bath for an hour.
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing Год назад
I typically use a lot less water and the Oxi helps to break the labels and glue down faster. This was one of my earlier videos, (I'm not a professional video person), so trying to get everything situated and record makes it very difficult to control everything including the water flow. Thank you.

Think about it most glues are petroleum-based why are you two doing all that other stuff when you should just be using olive oil or something like that paint the label with olive oil , let it rub it off 🤣🎶✨🎶✨✨✨✨✨🌈😎 the more you know. I mean learn about glue
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing Год назад
I fully understand your perspective but the biggest issue is getting the paper to peal up or break down to get to the glue. Some bottles aren't worth the effort but most like Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada will simply fall off the bottle after being soaked for an hour in hot water with a bit of PBW or Oxyclean. Plus, the oil solution is a bit more slippery and easy to break a bottle.
