Love the Vids, man... Could you do one that shows you opening up a load-bearing wall with a cased opening or sheet rock opening, either one is fine. (maybe 5-6'-0 or so)..... I just want to see how to open the wall and not have to worry about the roof collapsing in on me. Thanks, man! Keep it up!!
When you ask us what to video, I suggest EVERYTHING! I sub'd your channel because you can do so many things that every homeowner needs done eventually. I'm a DIY'r and like to do my own work and save lots of money. Your vids really help. I just installed a whole-house filter system after watching vids on sweating copper pipes. Feels good to do it yourself. So keep them coming and cover everything you do. One suggestion tho: You put some parts of your vids into speed mode which is okay, but we can see at times you are explaining something and pointing out something but did not slow it down so we can learn from what you were pointing out. Perhaps be careful of this during editing? Thanks!
I wish I did too. It was before I started making youtube videos. Pergolas this size are very easy and very inexpensive to build. It only took a few hours to build.
@@TheHandyman1 What's your take on wood vs. alumawood pergolas which are the craze in our neck of the woods, AZ. They tout no maintenance on the alumawood. I currently have a douglas fir wood pergola but rotting after 30 yrs. :)
For sealing and staining, the best product I have found for my sun drenched , dry location is Sikkens, Pro Luxe products.. The Butternut color is particularly beautiful.
I fully agree. Sikkens blows Thompson water seal away. Not even the same ball park. Sikkens also works wonders in my soggy, wet, rain forest area. You can find it at Miller Paint stores.
I was really nervous about standing up on top of my pergola the way you did. You may be a better carpenter than whoever built ours before we bought the house. I've been thinking of ways we might stain it without me physically being up there, but... I'm stumped. Thanks for the great video.
Thought I could do it today. Made a silly mistake and 1 leg fell between the boards. Bruised leg and sore. Think I will hire someone now. Live and learn.
I know this is a year old now, so you may have found a better way to clean wood. I’ve always had great success with any oxygenating cleaners, even without scrubbing. Another suggestion would be a pressure washer with a lower pressure nozzle so as not to be too aggressive with the cedar? I have not tried the latter.
Hey handyman, you have any advice for me? There’s a pretty badly rotten pergola that a pm wants me to fill with epoxy, ever had to do this? I’ve looked up info on RU-vid and see a few using foam sealant. Thanks!

Since the Behr wood cleaner wasn’t great, can you recommend another brand that’s good please? I’ve got a cedar gazebo that we just put up in May 2021 to clean and seal, and I want to do it right to hold up to Illinois’ winters, especially since this will be the first one it goes through. Thanks!!

Hi, I have some wood pillars out front on our porch that were sealed with some sort of stain or seal when the house was built 4 years ago. Now its time to redo them myself. I’m a woman and dont know much about staining or sealing wood. There are some areas on the wood that turned grey. Ive heard to spray with bleach and sand. But not sure what to use on the wood. I dont want to change the color of the wood, so would this Thompsons seal work for this project? Thanks
you would have to address the moisture issue before you can put carpet down. Start by finding the sources of the water. Drainage around your house is the first place to start.
Well. I see carpet in basements all the time. No special procedures when installing the carpet. If the house has proper drainage moisture shouldn't be a problem.
Hey man! I used the behr cleaner and the Thompson waterseal like you did. Do you think it's necessary to use a respirator mask and goggles for this kinda job? I didn't, but I will say that was nasty stuff...
Depends on what size wood. For large 6x6 cedar I have to get them through a lumber yard. They are not cheap. I usually get lumber from lowes or homedepot. you have to dig through the piles to get good ones.
I haven't used it. I need to do some more research before the next project. I'll have to look that one up. Every project and customer is a little different. Its always an upfront fixed price. Never by the hour.
I have been in construction all my life. I started when I was 15. I have a bachelors degree in Construction Management, I was a superintendent fro 7 years after college. Before college I went to trade school for electrical work and was an apprentice for 3 years.
Some aspects of building that pergola BY YOURSELF must have been more frustrating than having a helper with plumbing the posts and attaching the double cross members to the posts!
I built this in my drive way in about 4 hours. Took it apart drove to the customers house and put it together in about 2 hours. No helper needed. Pergolas are my biggest money maker up to $3000 in one day.
