I spent 23 years as a service repair tech. This is what I've learned the hard way. Whenever you install a sprinkler system, go buy a dirt cheap plastic tackle box and fill it with twenty years worth of every spare part you can think of incase the company goes belly up in twelve. Write on it with a sharpie "sprinkler parts" and write the install date of the system on the tackle box as well. Trust me, this is a real headache solver for you or the next guy in the future as well as the customer.

My irrigation system, rented property, comprises heads from four different companies in both plastic and brass. As an added bonus there are zones of mixed rotary and spray heads. There is now way in Hades to properly water the lawn. Fun stuff 😁

It's common for sprinkler valves to come on during a startup. Once they are lubricated again and are cycled a few times they usually start to work properly.

8 dollars for 2 cents of plastic. Disgusting I HATE ACE HARDWARE I brought my Toyota key and 5 factory blanks and they have the machine, but they wouldn't cut the keys. They wanted to sell me the blanks. I told them I don't want to wait for 2 months, but I did, 6 months later, still no blanks. A year later, they still had no blanks. Talked to the owner, he wouldn't cut the Toyota blanks I bought no matter what I paid. I will NEVER go back to Ace Hardware again.

Just buy a couple replacement valves so the customer has replacement parts 'in stock'. The whole valve with solenoid is like $15. Good to have extra diaphragm, solenoid, and seals (as well as the bleeder). Sprinkler Warehouse in TX carries many of these. If I'm not mistaken, these look like Irritrol 'jar top' valves. The 'pointy' end of the bleeder screw is important, as it seals up the small relief hole that allows the valve to open. SW also carries the bleeder screw for 69c. Note the water pressure actually closes the valves, so if there's any leak in the valve, the water will go through the valve.
@davids2530
@davids2530 Месяц назад
Great advice. I had a bad solenoid a few years ago. I was lucky to have an irrigation supply house nearby. Salesman was great. He told me the solenoid was $12 but a new valve and solenoid was $14. Bought a bag of gel filled wire nuts too. Done in 15 minutes including replacing wire nuts on all the valves. Probably saved myself $200.

Those are Rainbird valves in the one box. the other ones are older style. alot of the time its just the Solenoid and not the whole valve. You can put Irrigation flex line on the one from under the deck and relocate. Super easy should only take 5 to 10 mins.

On that vertical inline fan (PVC), nice how the LICENSED CONTRACTOR sealed that hole with spray foam! So glad the government doesn't let people do things themselves and do it right or wrong let it be on their heads, for the most part. That back flow preventer requirement is so stupid. I bet the homeowner is tickled that 150$ part is falling apart. Is anything these days not junk or designed stupidly? Make valve bodies, from plastic no less, that trickle drain the lines so you don't have to winterize the thing. Drain it right into the soil. It's pry a government mandate not to do that.

I know, i don't know how entitled someone must be to consider an inground sprinkler system a necessity and major problem. I bet they had to do it bare foot walking on broken glass up hill in the snow both ways too. Well more likely they got one of these new fangled hose things and hooked up a gasp above ground sprinkler and watering bucket. Hopefully one approved by their HOA haha.

I know this is not in Texas it never pass inspection They never draw water from inside the house or house water whole point of a back flow is to prevent water used in sprinklers to mingle with your house water or city especially if you have a in line liquid fertilizer system That said pretty janky system no drains on either side of the back flow or independent cutoffs 1 on each side of it that’s just asking for a freeze to blow that brass like paper mache Here where I’m at I use longhorn sprinkler and plumbing for parts Lowe’s and depot carry home brand and not much professional stuff hopefully you can find one near you But when breakers not been in use long time I usually round up solenoids relief valves those little screws and rubber diaphragms and some wire not running for 2 yrs lot garbage gets in lines and gums up the breakers Looks like the people didn’t look for the sprinklers when they built the deck and went right over the top if your lucky it’s got a screw on riser that you can screw a 90 on run new pipe out to new spot unless it’s covered by another station in that case you can screw cap on and forget it plus it be better to take those little mister heads off and run soaker hoses easier to manage and not break and only needs to tie on to one head per section and still get the same watering and presser

That bleeder screw on the 90 before the 765 must have had its own problem. It is not a problem that the backflow caused.You had the #1 SOV closed on the backflow and it was already leaking. If the water wasn't on to the backflow then it wouldn't be causing any unnecessary leaks. Also you're shutting down both the #1 and #2 SOV and discharging the valve, why don't you just close the #2 and leave the valve pressurized preventing any dirt and debris from getting inside out if possibly fouling it? I understand if it's a cold climate that could cause freezing/bursting problems but if it's not, then there's no need to depressurize the PVB. Just wondering.

I actually had a situation where the people were so bad about leaving water in pipes overwinter that they were turning the water on slowly to the system and causing the vacuum breaker to cough the big O ring and leak like a mother instead of turning the water on like a normal person. If your 2" Schedule 40 can't handle water pressure, you f**ked up somewhere or someone/something did for you.
@JimmydaGooch
@JimmydaGooch Месяц назад
I dont understand why people take these things apart to winterize? I just turn the water off at the backflow, hook my air up to the blowout T, turn each zone on at the controller, then shoot the air. Never had an issue with messing around with the solenoids or bleeder screws, the platsic shit always starts breaking when you mess with it.
@jimgriffiths9071
@jimgriffiths9071 Месяц назад
By loosening the solenoid or bleeder screw you can manually open each zone without going back to the clock. Saves time. But loosening does not equal taking it apart. No need to do that.
