Hello, I see after cleaning you add one layer of oil. Do you burn it off or put oil on cold? Thank You for your time...
@waltwins

6496chase hello, thank you so much for watching! I have done both - I try to ensure I have a thin layer of oil left on the griddle top to help preserve/keep it from rusting. 🤙🤙

I just get it hot and de-glaze it with water. I might use wine or vinegar if it's stubborn. Wipe it down with a wet paper towel and spray on olive oil after it dries and cools down a little. It's too easy.

I am huge in cast iron so I clean my black stones the same way. I do have a rag that I leave in a red solo cup with a mix of olive oil and vegetable oil. Just a little oil in the bottom and take and wipe the grill down when your done cleaning. Builds a great layer.

I seasoned my Griddle using Olive Oil. After the initial "seasoning of the griddle," I mostly use "Cooking Spray" (like Pam) with either Olive Oil or Canola Oil. I fire up the burners and spray a light coat of cooking spray on it, and when the griddle is good and hot, I turn down the burners and start cooking. Rather than turning the burners off, then back on to clean the griddle... when I'm done cooking, I turn off the burners, and immediately begin the cleaning process while the griddle is still hot. 1) If there is any stuck on food on the griddle, I squirt water on it, and wait about 1 minute for the water to boil off and loosen the stuck on food. If there's nothing "stuck on" the griddle, I don't even use the water. I just used the scraper. 2) Then I use the metal scraper and scrape the griddle off into the grease trap. 3) Then I take a clean and dry, wad of paper towels, and wipe it down. Voila! All done! And it's ready for the next cooking excursion. Smile! BTW... I have the same griddle as in the video.

I used water and my season began to flake and come off the griddle. I as absolutely avoid using water and of course soap. When it's hot I only use oil. 1. I scrape while it's still hot and instead of using water or soap in only use oil. (It cleans amazing and leaves a real thin layer) if theres food infuse oil while still hot to loosen any food and scrape it again 2. I use another towel or good paper that doesnt leaves behind particles til to lift the excess oil and debris from the prior use. 3. Last I put another layer of oil using my squeeze bottle and wipe with a new paper towel and always leave behind a thin layer of oil so when I come back its ready to go other than depending on what your cookin adding a tad bit more of oil Hope this helped with anyone who wanted to know what works for me and may you and your griddle live long and prosper 👍😎
@waltwins
@waltwins 4 года назад
Thanks so much for watching and for the input. We have found there are many ways that work for people, and this works for us. We are here in Florida, so we ensure it is bone dry if we apply water before adding the oil. Agreed, outside the initial clean off, soap is never used. Seems aside from that, our cleaning process is relatively similar. Keep griddling man! It keeps mouths happy!🤙🤙

What kind of oil do you prefer
@waltwins
@waltwins 4 года назад
Great question! I used Canola, but I’ve also used thin coats of Olive Oil and even vegetable oil. For cooking, I prefer avocado, vegetable, or olive oil.

Thank you so much for watching and yes! When we first got the Blackstone, we felt like we were doing it all wrong based off the “perfect” peeps in the FaceBook groups. We eventually learned, the food is always good, the cooks are fun, and it’s never perfect. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙

You guys are precious! Thank you so much! I will get the Blackstone another time but this still helps. I have a flat grill too but “Blue Rhino” I so like it too! My brother has the Blackstone grill. I tried to find it here where I live in California but could only find Blue Rhino. I want the Blackstone but I am very happy for now with what I have. 👍😋👍 Thank you so much again and I look forward to seeing more videos by you dear brothers😊GOD bless you!

Awesome vid. I saw a method for seasoning that uses those edged paint foam brushes. They are actually near perfect for applying coats while seasoning to help keep it well distributed and avoid patches etc. Relying on free hand application is a catch 22 of course lol. I love this cleaning technique cause it's simple, thorough, and with results. Noted getting some kitchen rags to use for this process. I don't need to go broke buying cases of paper towel either. 🙃

Totally agree! "No mistakes. Just happy accidents. If you make a mistake, make it a bird." The thing practically cleans itself, just like a cast iron frying pan. Doesn't care what kind of oil (I used avocado last night and canola this morning). Water to loosen the gunk. Reseason with a little oil. Ready to go next time! Grill on!

I have thought about upping my cooking game by adding a Griddle for doing such things as Breakfast and stir fry even fajitas one concern I had was how hard is it to maintain from start to finish and from beginning to end ... I learned a lot and now all I have to do is decide which one to go get. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.
@waltwins
@waltwins 2 года назад
Thank you so much for watching! We did a ton of research before our first griddle too! It’s a bit of a learning curve, but not much! The cold-rolled steel takes a bit more maintenance like cast iron - with cleaning and seasoning, but it’s fun process! If you are looking for a no-fuss option, we just started working with the new Pit Boss griddles that are nonstick - it’s different it there isn’t a seasoning process and the cleanup is a breeze! That said, we really love both!

Ty! I was having issues with mine getting rust spots and having to scrap and reseason once a week. Seems I wasn't wiping the water off good enough and therefore, I wasn't getting the oil on the griddle. When I worked as a bartender I hated cleaning the stainless flattop, It's kind of silly but I feel like I take pride in cleaning my Blackstone!
