A simple, safe way to bring some of the embedded oil to the surface is to simply put the ball close to a room heater or furnace vent (not too close). Soon the oil will be exuding from the ball and you can clean it.
Good video. How does the performance of the ball change if it's clean vs. dirty? I throw a straight ball and clean the oil off with a rag after every throw. I haven't been cleaning it beyond that usually.
Any commercial cleaner on the approved list is safe cut with alcohol or alone. I use 90% +. The Simple Green and alcohol mix I stopped using 4 years ago. I found something better. I use it immediately after each set to minimize the amount of oil that will soak into the ball. You also need to refresh the surface of the ball every 5 sets at minimum to maintain performance. If you bowl in a high friction house you will need to refresh the surface more often.
this just cleans the surface of the ball. to completely remove the oil from within the ball, boil some water in a large, deep cooking pot. take the pot of the stove and place the ball in the very hot water. let it soak for 30mins to an hour. rinse, wipe off. no more oil.
