This is how I cleaned my 8 coil packs. Before doing there was random vibration felt from inside the car and more noticeable when touching the intake manifold. There was also hesitation when during hard acceleration. After cleaning all 8, random vibration which was noticeable during idling at stop light was gone. The hesitation during hard acceleration is gone as well. Sharing this as this might do the trick for yours with the similar symptoms.
my idsi 1.3 idles good runs good but hesitates a bit then runs good when you accelerate hard. already changed air filter and cleaned throttle body myself. VERY thorough. but it still does that. this will be my next step this coming Saturday. 😁 thx for your info.
@@Adr-z5k, you might want to consider inspecting the Sparkplugs as well. If it's more than 40k kms, it's not too much to replace them. I had experience with hesitation due to spark plugs. When I measured the resistance it's still around 4k. Checked gap, within spec, but it's old enough. After replacement, hesitation was gone. This process is quite tedious and you need to be careful not breaking any brittle parts.
@@doitmyself6377 ok na siya ngayon 😂 thanks to you. yeah. sinabay ko na nilinisan ang splug nuong tinanggal ko ang coil. nagbaklas na nga eh di sinama ko narin pati spark plug 😂😂
Thank you. So many videos selling coil testers, and acting like they doing me a favor by telling me to replace the ignition coil. This was the first video I found where someone took the time to dismantle clean and reassemble. I'm going to go do my ignition coils now. I know it's 5 years old but I hope you're still doing these.
this is a superb video about exactly how to fix this rather irritating problem that plagues these Hondas. Very very grateful to you for taking the time to put this together and uploading it to RU-vid to help out people. I have followed your steps precisely and can vouch for the fact that it has resolved so many issues with my 2008 Honda Jazz 1.5L GD3. Problems resolved 1) really inconsistent idling when engine is cold 2) When engine is cold and I come to a stop the engine idle speed drops to almost zero and then recovers 3) A lot of vibration in the engine particularly around the region of the idle speed. 4) Engine is rough when cold and accelerating hard acceleration accentuates the problem. All these were resolved after cleaning the coils as per this video. saved heaps on replacement coils as here in New Zealand Honda dealership will totally rob you when it comes to any Honda part ( you are talking $NZ 287.00 +15% GST tax)!!!
If the coil is this dirty, it’s time to toss them and put new ones in, a coil is more than clean contacts and connectors. The winding inside will wear .. Over time, the constant exposure to electrical currents and the associated heat can cause the windings to degrade. This degradation can result in increased electrical resistance, reduced performance, and eventual coil failure.
I want to ask. after you clean the ignition coil plug until now is it still in good condition? This post was last year ago Thank for your sharing this experience.👍👍👍👍👍
sir do you experience the vibration only when engine was started cold like the first drive of the day? I don't have vibrations if I start the engine warm like when I drive it again after 1 hour from previous drive.
No. You might want to check and clean plugs. Sometimes plugs have carbon on tip or worse oil depending on your piston seal condition. Wet by gasoline if you have leaky injectors
hello. today I wanted to clean springs & contacts on these circuits on Honda City. I went out from the workshop to work on a day light, not expecting something "terrible" would happen. As I was pulling a spring with a resistor with long nose pliers (it went off much harder than what we can see on your video) and as the spring got out, in a fragment of second my resistor with a nickel connector on it swung away to the bushy & grassy surroundings. We were trying to find it, but after about an hour we gave up. Do you know whether we can get a single resistor with a special nickel connector, please? if so, where, please? Thank you
Sorry to hear that but I am not sure if we can buy that kind of resistor somewhere even from Honda. Honda usually sells it as whole assembly. We also don't know the resistor specs other than the value. A better way would be to buy an oem replacement. I've seen aliexpress selling this for less than 20 usd per piece
If you're planning on replacing them anyway, you could try clean them first. But consider availability of parts first in case you totally break it. I would try problem isolation first specially if the coils are identical. And if it points to the coil, it's worth the risk trying to clean it because regardless if you break it or not, you're gonna have to replace it.
I don't know the acceptable range for the resistor but since I got almost the same vakues for 8 coil packs, I used that as reference for the other measurements. It's basically cleaning the coil pack and make sure that it measures the resistor value when probed from end to end. Thanks for commenting/asking
@@doitmyself6377 actually my car have problem of jumping/jerking when accelerating especially when going up hills, so i want to clean the coils the way u clean it but don't know the values, do you think 1.88 should be good?
@@zaifkhann I would start with that value. You could also check 2 or more of your coil resistors. What's important is the corroded material/contact tends to create much higher series resistance in addition to the built in resistor. If you have a service manual, it might be listed in there. I would be interested to know also. Good luck.
Hello. If you mean if resistor is 1.723 kOhms would cause jerking at acceleration. I don't think it would. Jerking during acceleration could also be due to bad or starting to fail spark plugs.
In my case also no Check engine lamp was there but Honda shoroom replaced 2 coils. Surprisingly they don't checked which was not working. Now same issue happened again and I saw this video. Will try this now. Thanks for sharing such a great video
Hello. That's really bad fuel economy(less than 10kmpl).There are many factors that can affect your iDSI's fuel economy. It's better to use OBD2 scanner to check for codes and other parameters especially fuel trims. Also when you compare I assume that you don't change your driving habits. What I usually do to compare gas usage is on a highway back and forth. So I would compare the last recorded mileage on the same route back and forth. This is to measure for highway driving. For city driving it would require longer time(and a number of full tanks) then get the average. City driving is less predictable than highway driving. You could try these.
very helpful! I started doing this about 6 years ago when I was quoted AU$2000 to replace them all. I have done the process about every 10 months, but have finally had to buy some, I found a deal on eBay for $134 for the eight [fingers crossed hoping they will be legitimate]
@@silentjellybean I think it's the same as the ones being sold locally. From the reviews, the product looks OK. And what you got may be from the same supplier
@@doitmyself6377 So the Eight coils arrived, I fitted new spark plugs and the new coils, Totally fixed to running/misfiring issue. The engine check light even turned itself off, I didn't have to use the OBDII scanner reset lol.
I believe it's there for an important purpose. Otherwise manufacturers would just get rid of that extra cost. I think it serves as current limiting protecting the coil pack itself. I would keep it there as much as possible. If you could just clean them, your coil pack would love that.
some of mine look burnt on half closest to the module and some of the caps come off, If Im really careful I hope can remove them all and clean them. Your video is very helpful thanks for posting
also; would putting some dielectric grease on that end help it from getting corroded? also; I have a hemi engine with dual coils so Im going to cleaning 16 of these.. wish me luck.
Glad to hear that it is helpful. Some people is doing that for the contact between coil pack and sprak plug. With that I think it wouldn't hurt to put some on the resistor part. Good luck!
Hi I want to contact you for a chat can you provide me where can I contact you. I have remove front 4 iggnitio coil cleaned with wd 40 and carb cleaner but resistor reading are different in each coil. 1 coil - 2.10 2 coil - 13.40 3 coil - 16.45 4 coil - no reading What should I do
I am wondering why there is 700 ohms difference. I can't tell if that's okay, I just made sure that I don't have high variation between all 8 coils. Or 4 coils if not idsi
