Mine is much dirtier than this, the stains seem oil based. Is there anything I can use to get those off? Soap and water doesn't work.

I know it’s been 5 years but try a diluted mix of water and simple green it should take it out.

If you only clean (brushed) the dirty spot, that spot will be brighter...this is not recommend way to clean canvas bag.
