In this video I want to give you a few tips on how to prevent dust from getting in the way of your diecast car collection's awesomeness.
- If you don't have a display with glass panels, keep your cars in their boxes (also ensures resale value)
- Use microfibre cloth
- Use a soft bristled makeup brush to get dust off fine details like the windshield lining or perforated grilles etc.
- Use water to damp your microfibre cloth to wipe dried stains of water or oil
- Avoid isopropyl alcohol if you can, and NEVER use it on plastic body panels or near sun strips or the frit surrounding the windshields
- A good way of cleaning dusty interiors (especially of convertibles) is to use a can of compressed air. Otherwise, the aforementioned makeup brush or a q tip surrounded by microfibre cloth can get into places too small for your finger
- In any case, blowing always helps get rid of coarse dust particles quickly.
Hope these tips help you keep your diecast car collection neat and tidy!

i have diecast models that have been sitting for over 10 years on display and just found out a good way to get the stuck on dust out of the interior (Q-tip or paint brush didnt work) is by using a wet toothbrush and scrubbing the seats and dash. They look like brand new again.

I'll save you all the trouble. Blow the dust off it, then wipe it off with a soft cloth. 2.3 seconds, 19 minute video not required. You are welcome.

Reducing the amount of dust in the room is most important. I have my 300, 1/18 diecast in my den, a smaller room. They are all on open shelving. A BIG help is to cover (block off) both the supply and return air grilles into that room (surprisingly it is still warm enough in winter) It makes a huge reduction in the amount of dust. I put an auto-closer on the door hinge so it always stays shut, keeping dust out. Using an air purifier in the corner also filters out any dust. Canned air is best to get the bulk of the dust off and finish with fine cloth, as you've done. Fyi....take the model out of the room to blow the dust off, or it will just end up on some other models in the same room. Comment - I don't agree with displaying models inside the box since you can't see all sides, can't open the parts, poor lighting, takes up more space, etc..

My collection is made up of 1/87 scale Mercedes models, made mostly of plastic but also of resin and metal. I have found the make up brush to be invaluable in removing dust without detaching the freestanding photoetched hood ornaments on many of the cars.

Thank you for your detailed video. I am starting to collect diecast cars again and wanted better ideas on cleaning them. When I was much younger, I never used the care, that you did, and most were played with rather than admiring. I've looked at quite a few videos on this subject, and I personally would rank your information at the top of my list. I plan on photographing each diecast, I collect now to bring out a more realistic look with the collectable or even a toy car. And just a word to parents and mentors to the younger collectors,. teach them now, so they will carry on good care habits for their models to last for years to come.

Thanks for this. I have 69 1:18 scale cars in my collection, and thanks to your tips, I think every day I should clean one using the following steps: 1) Blow on it (using the mouth, not another body part) 2) Use a microfiber cloth for the windshield first, and then the rest of the car 3) Use a soft-bristled brush for those harder to reach areas of the vehicle
@ImperialDiecast
@ImperialDiecast 3 года назад
Exactly! And to clean any actual dirt, always try using water dampened cloth first and only if it still doesnt go away, use alcohol-based agents as a last resort as they may damage the paint and definitely will damage matte black areas like the black trim around the windshield.

@ImperialDiecast
@ImperialDiecast 5 лет назад
Hi Codrin, regarding sedans, the companies Norev, Paragon and Kyosho have done many in the 60-100 EUR range, especially focusing on Mercedes and BMWs. If you're looking for less expensive ones, Maisto has done the Jaguar S-Type and X-Type, and I've reviewed their Mercedes CLS, Cadillac DeVille DTS and motormax's Chrysler 300C HEMI on my channel. i find cleaning the interior stuck on dust on the seats and dash the hardest by far. i wish they made most diecast cars without open windows to keep the dust out. but then it would be kinda tough to open the doors.

I bought a pack of like 1,000 clothes off Amazon specifically designed for cleaning copier screens. Originally got them for cleaning weapons because they're lint free. But they probably work great for models. Super high quality and safe, but cheap enough to be disposable.

Dusting my cars occupy my Sat mornings. While it forces me to have a good look and appreciate the car, it's a tedious process. I keep mine in boxes - 18, 24 and 43 scales. It's just easier to run a cloth over the box. Also, over years a build up of dust will mean the car needs polishing to bring back the shine.

What model kit was this. I remember this diecast came disassembled and you had to build it. Got one in yellow when I was 7 or 8, just can’t remember the brand/kit name
@ImperialDiecast
@ImperialDiecast 3 года назад
this is a pre-assembled car in 1/18 scale sold by hot wheels. I am not aware of there being model kits in 1/18 scale, most kits I know are in 1/24 scale and made by companies like tamiya, aoshima, fujimi etc. but there are also some maisto "assembly line" kits in 1/24 scale too which do not require any glue or painting, just quick assembly.
@LadiesMan.217.
@LadiesMan.217. 3 года назад
@@ImperialDiecast ahh they are the maisto assembly kits, thanks for clearing that up. I don’t really know much about model kits haha, but been trying to remember for the longest what kit it was just so I could buy another.

That's what i do to my 1/24 scale models that wasnt built to high enough of caliber for a case I just walk by and blow on them ciuple times a week and clean them once a week it's not many maybe 4 abd by jist blowing majes it so much easier to clean instead of letting it collect dust. And also by building them you can gwt a very high detailed car with better paintjobs and as much scale detail as you want and alot of times more detail then any expensive diecast out there depends how much work you put into them for 60 bucks and 3 months I have models that are way more detailed and better paint then any other diecast in the 400 to 1000 dollar range but I been building for 10 years since i was a kod takes alot of practice and work but worth it

Is a hand dremel safe to use with compound to remove swirl marks?
@ImperialDiecast
@ImperialDiecast 4 года назад
so far I havent worked with compound yet. My advice is to stay away from tools and just use your fingers, that way you can always "feel" the model underneath and adjust pressure and pace. But try it on your cheapest and most damaged model first before daring to do anything on an expensive one.
