Nice video and good inovative use of cider vinegar. However, the brownn marks are not scorches or burns, they are condensed tar deposits from converting solid material to vaporised wood fumes too quickly. In a closed "cut" like engraving, you need VERY little air assist, just enough to protect your lens but not enough to blow those fumes back onto your work. If you take a few moments and study the way the fumes perform you will see that for a shallow cut the the fumes squirt up vertically and drift away without condensing on your work. Try cutting too deeply and the fume production is so great that it cannot all escape upwards and "explodes" sideways to condense on your work. IF you really need a deep cut then do a shallow cut twice and you will produce no tar around your engraving.. Understand the cause rather than deal with the consequences.

Just watched your video on 3D engraving myths and misunderstandings. I learned a lot and maybe I’ll try a 3D engraving next.

Bamboo can be tricky to work with. Density of the individual pieces can burn differently leaving light and dark engravings. Also air assist aids in removing smoke residue. Thx for the vid.

Bamboo is certainly a tricky material to work with no doubt about it Ken. The acacia wood is definitely my favourite so far.

Hi Nicholas, I definitely plan on upgrading to air assist in the future but so far so good working outside. I know the air assist would be a game changer though. Best of luck to you as well, Shane

I wash my wood lightly with just water and a brush and dry it quickly - it quickly removes any small marks and takes away some of the smell of the burnt wood. Ill try vinegar thanks.

That’s a great tip, thanks! I’ve actually never tried just using water on laser burn, I guess it’s the most obvious solutions that remain hidden to me sometimes.

Oh cool, I have some isopropyl alcohol in the cupboard and I’ll give that a test next time I have some laser burn. Thanks for sharing this Woody. 👍

Try turning down your minimum power down to around the threshold of your machine if you're using lightburn. This can help avoid burns/char around curves and corners.

That’s an awesome tip, thanks Rone! I’ll take a look at my settings next time I’m having burn and see about reducing the minimum power requirements. 👍 I took a look at your channel and noticed that weird sky event. What was that some kind of mini tornado forming? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ao8DWyIuIy4.html

@@hobbylasermachine lol yea i forgot to delete it. It was a bad storm a week ago and that funnel cloud started forming directly above my house. I would of kept filming it but the lightning was hitting all around. Its alot better in faster speed.

Use a microfibre cloth instead of the paper towel and you won’t have to do the cleanup.

Thanks for the tip. White vinegar does work the same. What speed/power % and laser Wattage did you use? Looks great!!
@hobbylasermachine
@hobbylasermachine 7 месяцев назад
Hi Randy, I dropped the ball on this one. I cannot find what the exact speed and power was for the bamboo coaster product but this being the early days for me with the 10 watt laser it’s safe to say it was 50% power and 50 speed. But that would be 50/50 co2 settings as I hadn’t transitioned to diode yet. Sorry for this confusion.

@@hobbylasermachine I think so it seems to work pretty good when you don't want to use something strong. Wipe on wipe off. I'm finding out also that just plain water and a magic eraser does wonders to.

Funciona no couro?
@hobbylasermachine
@hobbylasermachine 5 месяцев назад
Atenciosamente, Shane

MDF is such an odd material, I recently experimented with staining MDF and it looked nice. It could be a workaround for fixing MDF burn, stain it and then apply a clear coat.
