I know this is an old post but im having some issues with my 04 350z. Car cranks but wont start. i replaced the battery and oil pressure sensor after getting 120 oil pressure on my gauges. I was wondering if the mass air flow sensor would stop the engine from starting if it was dirty. Also if i have the torx bit to remove the air flow sensor can i do that instead of removing the whole housing? thank you for the zed videos. Ive learned alot from you over the years.
I'm trying to understand why it's important to have the maf sensor in a specific spot? You said to put masking tape to remember the orientation but is it necessary?
In my car 2009 Nissan Sentra it works only one way. I put ithe MAF Sensorat some point in opposite direction, just to try or mistakenly, don't remember this detail, but at this wrong position, the holes for screws didn't coincided. Maybe it is just for that car. But the author is right, it is better to take pictures or something. Sometimes you think it is so easy to put everything back, but then you find yourself w/a question, where that or that part goes. It happened to me several times, and I needed to google or was happy that had some records of the disassembly process.
@@AnthonyJ350 oh wow. I'm very interested to know more about that. I already have questions about it and you might already have answers so I look forward to that when you get it.
Depends if you just want to clean, or actually inspect components on the car. We're swapping out the radiator, so doing it this way made sense. We also mention in the video if you do not have the security torx bits you will have to take it all out like this.
The electrical connector on my car got stuck (though only 40K on 2009 Nissan Sentra), I can't remove it. I've been told that you need to push the connector down and then press the tub, but that connector doesn't go down at all. I saw some people lubricate it w/oil penetrant, but it was sprayed on the connector without the sensor in it. I fear that oil can go inside of the sensor. that connector on Nissan is very complicated to disconnect. How did you disconnect the original one? And another question: can I use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner? Thank you for the film, very informative.
If you're having a hard time with a plug don't force it or you may cause costly damage. It's highly recommended you bring the vehicle to a shop that specializes in diagnostics.
@@AnthonyJ350 Thanks for the concern. I succeeded to disconnect that Nissan plug, following a certain technique: by wiggling and pressing on the very end of the tab down. I even don't think it was stuck, but rather the problem was to find the right position, when that disconnection can happen (kind of tricky plug indeed), bcs when I put it back and tried to disconnect again it was hard as the previous time. And also I could disconnect it only when it was mounted on the car. At some point I disconnected the whole set (plug + MAF sensor) and tried to disconnect it again, it didn't work (for me). Then I placed the set into its position, tighten the screws, disconnected the plug, then removed the MAF sensor. Most likely the problem is not that sensor, but I found a ripped Air Flow Hose for Intake Manifold, which I replaced already. Hopefully it will clear the code P0171 after some driving. You are right about experienced mechanics of course, but I think we (general public) also shouldn't overload them w/the procedures of simple nature and rather do it on our own, bcs that is why we have long waiting time in dealerships (shops and alike), since people run there to change bulbs, headlights lens, oil and coolant change, small and easy to reach sensors, tentioner belts and so for, so as a result really difficult jobs are not done quickly and, I regret to say, sometimes not scrupulously properly. I maybe would go to a dealership, if it is something serious like to drop a gas tank or a subframe, or to check the job I did and not 100% sure it is done to the higher level of precision. It is better to pay a bit, but you know that everything is done correctly. But again, I don't think I need to overload a professional w/small jobs I can do myself.
Oh no, an extra 7 minutes of detail and opinion! People's impatience impresses me every day. It's Christmas, you're really going to end the year complaining about 7 extra minutes. I have a New Year's resolution for you. Work harder and complain less, you'll go further in life.
@@AnthonyJ350 I also have a New Year’s resolution for you; Learn to accept negative feedback without getting upset and always have an open mind - you’ll go further in life. Or just turn off the comments section and your feelings won’t get hurt. Stay safe kiddo! 🇷🇺
It's not about it hurting you. It's about you frying the electronic components. A live 12 volt system can't pass through you unless you're maybe soaking wet and holding onto ground and a 12+ battery line at the same time.
