Very helping video my a/f sensor is working now, all of the sudden started going lean in high revs, i cleaned and is back to life .. thank you sir!! 👏🏻👏🏻
First of all this mechanic is a true man, helpful and he doesn't lie, besides he's a well spoken and knows again rear mechanic and yes I thank you for your videos.
At 6:18, the damaged portion was most likely caused by applying a pair of vice-grips, instead of using a sensor socket. Trash that senser. There is a heater that runs through that portion. It is a rod that heats up to make the sensor operate correctly. The crimp has changed the heating opetating temperature of that sensor. Been there, done that.
My 2006 Corolla with 216,000 km still got the original sensor. No engine light. My 2008 Sienna with 67,000 km which I hardly drive got the check engine light, vsc, and trac off lights come on. Sensor is bad. Quality must be really low.
On my 07 toyota camry 2.4L with 300k, I just replaced the o2 a/f sensor and I noticed better gas mileage almost right away. The hardest part was getting the old one out.
Yep, already did this in my MAF and throttle body on my mk1 mx5. Great timing this video! Last week the mx5 failed it's annual inspection for pollution. I've since found a massive exhaust leak which I've fixed now, but if she fails again at retest next week I'll be doing this to the O2 sensor. Subscribed!
Test with an Ohmmeter across the 2 black wires. Set it to 200 Ohms and look for a reading. If there is no reading the 02 sensor is bad. The Ohms should be around 2 to 2.5 on the 200 Ohm scale.
I add Archoil 6200 to my fuel - it contains PEA and seems to keep the inside of the engine very clean, so I would expect it to do the same from the o2 sensors! I recently put a bore-scope into my cylinders, and the piston heads were almost completely free of carbon deposits at 100 000 miles.
I saw a video one gentleman used an ultrasonic cleaner to get his clean those things are pretty effective. I think a good stiff solvent of some kind and ultrasonic cleaner together would one would probably lose it in the ultrasonic would probably get that stuff to break loose
I only have one sensor ( Bosch ) before the catalytic in my Renault motor K4J750 ( 250.000 kms..) it´s a bit of a PITA to take it off kkkk i cleaned mine in a cup of white vinegar for an hour( it let a good amount of black particles in the bottom of the cup...) and after blow it with the compressor i've done a new and final cleaning with carb cleaner a blow it again until dry....now the motor runs like new ...no more rough idling and better acceleration...( Bosch recommends changing the sensor at 160.000 kms...) 👍
@Jack Horner Yes so far so good after a 1000 kms or so the the " Long term Fuel Consumption Display " has lowered from 7.3 to 7.2 liters per 100 Kms ( not much but it´s in the good path....) attending that is a 20 year old motor with 250.000 kms....👍
Good work..But... 1) if you had a bad one Ohm it out to confirm bad... Then cleaned... You would have covered cleaning and Checking both working and or not.. Great little add on to your good video's
I have a 2010 Honda Odyssey they scanned it tonight and it came out to be the O2 sensor upward and they want close to $500 to replace it I think I may try this first. Thanks for the video
Good video, as usual👍 I have the concern of spraying these sensitive sensors w/ these harsh sprays, as a little bird once told me never to spray an o2 sensor with anything. Is this true? Also, what is the normal appearance of a normal wear, non dysfunctional sensor? Is it white, as opposed to a black, sooty appearance?? Thx🔧
@@kimchee94112 I'm in the same boat from what you said but still bad gas mileage. No trouble light but bad gas mileage and this one time hesitation and no hesitation after it happens. I dont understand
Are there any chemicals I should not use on the sensor or is everything okay that works? For many car parts like intake manifold, EGR-Valve etc I use oven cleaner for example.
My 2006 Toyota RAV4, 4cyl burns 1quart of oil every 2000miles. The check engine light and ABS come on at humid and warm weather conditions. Common problem with 2006 Rav4, some were recalled for burning even more oil. I suspected that this oil is no good for O2 sensor. I cleaned the upstream sensor by soaking it in Carb. cleaner and spraying inside. Vehicle works fine, no codes but waiting for that hot, humid day that caused the failure. Summer is 3 months away.
@@thewishmastur FWIW I have a '06 & what I read the OE are DESNO. On AMZN downstream (narrowband) are about $50. Denso 234-4168 Oxygen Sensor - downstream, front Denso 234-4516 Oxygen Sensor - downstream, rear ...upstream (wideband) are about $100 ea, Denso 234-9042 Air Fuel Ratio Sensor - upstream, front Denso 234-9012 Air-Fuel Ratio Sensor - upstream, rear Hopefully this gent's trick works and save some $$
Mine is $180 ,a ten dollar or less can of spray is definitely worth my time. You already have it out anyway and getting one loose is often the hardest part of the job. Another thing to think about is what if you have a problem that is ruining the oxygen sensor. So you just going to throw a new one in there and possibly destroy it also. Nope I'm going to take my time try to learn something hopefully I'll get lucky
nice video so educational remove clean with proper spray which is highly recommended by manufacturer clean the sensor beware not to pock the inside just use the spray to do the job after you clean it and check very carefully look beside where you seating you will find a very nice trash can then put the well cleaned sensor inside put it with care the by a new one for it is practical to use the new sensor.
Very interesting vlog and idea. What’s your thought on performance chips to improve gas mileage and increase hp? I’m more interested in increasing mpg.
For Toyotas you are kind of out of luck unless you want to spend big bucks. Chips don't work the way they want you to believe. Bully Dog makes programmers for gas and diesel engines for about $400. But the most beneficial would be a flash tune from OrangeVirus Tuning for economy or performance. They can even reprogram your transmission to be smoother or be more responsive for performance.
My experience with 02 sensors is that you do not touch them….make sure you don’t contaminate them when installing or after for example reinstalling heads/exhaust after engine repair. I’ve never been able to reuse an 02 sensor after MIL/CEL except in the case of a broken harness wire. Having said that I still try to clean em every time.
Most O2 sensors only last 3-5 years or 30’000 to 50’000 miles . Cleaning it might help you pass an emissions test but. Also , it’s a good idea to invest in a heated air oil filter, catch cans do nothing
Any idea what the thread pitch on the 2 studs on an 88 4runner...3vz for the o2 sensor mounting? I take the truck to the beach alot and the nuts have rusted away entirely
I'm going to try this. I get a check engine light for " bank one too lean". I have no vacuum leaks and I only get poor mileage after the code is tripped. If I delete the code my gas milage is good till it trips again. I would rather pay $15 for the cleaner then the $160 for a new 02 sensor.
@@nelsoncanelas1978 gasoline should work too. The fumes are super dangerous so let it soak in a ventilated area..besides if an o2 sensor needs cleaning that means your engine is not running hot enough... too much fuel or not enough air in combustion... you should fix that first cause hot engine cleans o2 sensor. :)
Hi! So I got code P0138 for bank 1 sensor 2. I bought the toyota o2 sensor and it was installed. I thought the 1st one was bad bc it did not stop the code. So I got a replacement(warrantied). It’s still not working. Any idea what could be wrong?
The code means you are running lean or rich which means the sensor might be good and it actuallyis your engine burn...find out which and keep tracing back to the engine, pump, injectors...etc...
As I was researching 02 sensor codes I came across a video that said to check the fuses first. My 2004 Yukon has a 15amp fuse under the hood for bank one and bank two. Found my fuse for bank 2 was burnt out. Not Sure if this will take care of my P0141/P0161. Might want to check your fuses too. ✌🏽
The check engine lite wasn't on I just wanted to clean mine they had some carbon on them after cleaning my sensors i reinstall them a hour later I started up the car i triggered the check engine light bad idea!!!🤦
Dear son, I have swift car. When the AC is switched on, the pick-up lowers down. Till now the car has run near about 80,000 kms.AC compressor is ok, all Spark plugs are changed and new spark plugs are fitted, all coils are ok, throttle body cleaning done. flow of petrol is ok. Air filters are also new. Please let me know why pick-up falls down when AC is switched on. You describe very nicely. I hope you will co-operate me. Retired principal Ravi Rai India
