Girrrrl I know what you mean! I was at a highly rated nail salon in my city. The nail tech took tools from a plastic container marked “new” which made me feel good - labeled and marked “clean”, I’m good to go. Then when he used those tools and put them back in the plastic container labeled “clean.” I was like NAH UH

So many salons and Nail Techs do not follow proper sanitation procedures. I’ve even seen them asking , “Why do you wear gloves?’ Are you kidding me?!! I was taught the same procedure at my Nail School. Great video! 💅🏻💗💗💗

Unfortunately there are salons that have unlicensed workers. A licensed manicurist oe cosmetologist must have their license posted at their work station. It's a good clue if you don't see a posted license. I'm not sure how they continue to get away with it, but somehow they do. Unsanitary shops do get closed and reopen "under new management ". You have to be careful where you go.

Nikki, thank you for taking the time to do this video and not only show how to do things properly, but what products we would need, how much to use and how long to use them to keep our implements/tools as safe and clean as possible. I personally don't work on other people's manicures, although I have offered to family and friends, but I still want my tools to be as clean as possible. However, the older I get and the more problems I have with my arthritis, it gets painful to even work on my own hands for very long. I'm grateful for all of the videos here on RU-vid that show ways to do so many creative and easy ways to do beautiful manicures. Thanks again for taking the time to do this video and I also noticed that all of the replies I read, you took the time to respond to all of the ones I saw, that to me really shows how much you care about your subscribers, which is one reason I took the time to subscribe, hit the bell and liked this video. Great job IMHO! 🤩

Good video Nikki. And you are right about salons not disinfecting. I stopped going and do my own and have my own barbicide. And you did mention the candle in a previous video - I think it was one when you were gifted one. Your clients will appreciate everything you do to consider their comfort and experience. Hellooo your definitely correct some nail salons don’t clean their tools I’ve seen it as well I have walked out but I do nails at my home and we definitely clean the same way before a service and after I also have extra sets clean just in case I don’t have time to clean the first set I use in between clients 💅🏼

Great video! So neat & clean 👌🏾 only one thing always use a cuticle oil that have a dropper instead of brush...Some people just change out their barbicide once a week 🤢🤮 because they cheap...Ima change mine out everyday....Just passed my written examination yesterday I'm so excited...

Thank you so much for making this video, I had attended Clary sage beauty college in oklahoma, and they showed us the same thing and we are also taught by a barbicide instructor as well, I feel like the gloves help you not to recontamination the implements. So good looking out on that. And yes I've seen unfortunately some of the same practices and some of the other salons where they don't even rinse off the implements they just wait for the next customer and start working on them right away. Anyways thank you for taking your time

the solution to disinfect is very cheap... probably cheaper than their most inexpensive service... I don't know why they won't just use the damn thing and keep everyone safe 😰

I think we have the same table! I also scrub the tools with antibacterial soap after the 1st rinse. It’ll keep your solution debris free🤗 also bomb nails you did!

I will not go to any nail salons anymore! I haven't been to one in the last 10 years that have a high hygienic standard. I always find something nasty about the place. Not to mention thier work is almost always complete crap. Bubbles in the acrylic, lifting after just a few days because they don't prep properly if at all. Nope no thank you (no fungi for me, or wasted money). That's why I want to thank you for being so gracious and posting for us diy'ers!! Lot's of love. 💟💟💟

I said the same thing!!! even to get my eyebrows arched they want to use the same damn razor... I use to bring my own and they would say I can't do that... but then would open a new one for me... okay so if you already had new ones then why not just use it? why come at me with the same one from the previous person????

Barbicide is the best thing to clean your tools... it is affordable on amazon and ebay... but in school we were taught to change it AS SOON AS IT GETS CLOUDY... it can be on day or 5 days, but as soon as it is cloudy toss it. if you make it and store it in a container UN USED then it is okay for a few weeks, at that point i may not clean my tools with it but i clean up the kitchen or the bathroom with it instead of wasting it

Great video, In Canada we have on step that maybe you have or maybe not, imo its an important one Ours is as follows, Submerge the implements in a soapy solution, leave to soak and then under running warm/hot water use a BRUSH to scrub any contaminants and the reason for the brush is not only to get into crevices like on drill bits but I copied this info ". >>>If an item is not cleaned fully, it can reduce the effectiveness of disinfection or sterilization because contaminants can protect the microorganisms from the disinfection or sterilization process, or inactivate the disinfectant or sterilant"

I put my implements in a glass bead sterilizer after I wipe them down with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Should I use that stuff?

if you have a sterilizer and can assure that they are sterile (like in an autoclave) then use that... You just have to make sure that it is working and sterilizing the implements (run tests and maintenance) but if it is working then keep using that

So nothing falls in and contaminates the liquid. U can reuse the same liquid for the whole day as long as it stays clean. Once it's cloudy you have to throw it away

So stealing the towel idea i really hate the dust. Ive never clean my tools but its just me n my daughter. Should still clean them. When i go get them done ill ask them to clean them because they never do and a million people use them. I just never thought of it with me and my daught but i always clean our hands 1st. Do the tools rust in between where they cant dry good.

yes you should def. clean them! not that you or her have anything, but bacteria, viruses, fungi can grow and spread on the tools. All it takes is 10minutes in the solution. They shouldn't rust if you lay them out to air dry... but if you leave them in the solution too long they may.

Can you drain a nail brush on the barbicide? Bc the brush does touch the clients nail/cuticle!

Are you talking about the acrylic brush? I believe we don't soak them in barbicide bc not many organisms can survive in the monomer & acetone (remember you start with fresh monomer per set). However if there is blood present or in any doubt I'M ALL FOR SANITIZATION... Of note IDK what barbicide will do to the kolinksy fibers over time

I saw a well used nail brush on your table and what about your files and brushes? If you take the time to sterilize it has to be everything used on the client right? You have such a bubbly, kind way of sharing on your videos. I would love to be your client! Yesterday I manicured my 96 y/o mother's nails with gel polish. She was so happy! She even wanted the glitter coat I suggested for an accent nail on all her nails! She can't remember the last time she had her nails done. Thanks to all these videos I was able to do a decent job of it. I forgot to take pictures though. I wonder if there are manicurists who volunteer their services at care centers or hospitals. It makes women feeling old or sickly feel a bit better. They can see beauty right in front of them on their hands all day. Shine on sunshine Nikki!

Hi love🙋🏽‍♀️ Some files are reusable those I usually spray with the barbicide not put them in the container. Others are one time use and for those I just use on my practice hands instead of tossing them... The manicure brushes can be place's in the barbicide solution for sure👍🏽 I can't believe your mom wants glitter at 96! YOUNG AT HEART ❤ I HOPE I'M LIKE THAT AT 96!! GLITTER AND BLING PLEASE 😜

You can resuse it up to 24 hours or until its cloudy (which ever comes first)

Be careful with cross contamination with the file bits being kept on top of the drawer. Please use gloves when using any chemicals.
