My SFC was having an issue where it often times wouldn’t boot a cart unless it was slightly tilted to the back. The connectors looked clean but I cleaned it with a toothbrush and IPA anyways. Now it seems to work without issue. Thank you for the video!
This did the trick and got my first cartridge running! Not the second one though. It was funky gross so I used Barkeeper's Friend on the pins then cleaned that up after with Isopropyl Alcohol. Anyway, thanks for these videos!
Will cleaning the 62 pin connector actually make a noticeable difference? I have a problem where if I try to play a super fx game it only gives me audio and no video. The cartridge works on other super nentendos, just not mine.
Of course it will. If it's dirty the connection to the cartridge pins won't be read properly. A good cleaning is the easiest and first step in troubleshooting why a cartridge based isn't loading your game properly.
Either is fine. The higher percentage the more quickly it will evaporate. The important thing is to be thorough with your cleaning. Give it time to dry before you plug it in and turn it back on to test it. I would do the cleaning and then leave the testing for the next day. Good luck!
I just bought a SNES and my favorite game super Mario world and I'm having the issue where it keeps deleting my save file. Would cleaning the system fix this ?
Definitely clean your system. But also clean your cart. And beyond this, your problem sounds like a cartridge battery issue. All game cartridges use batteries to save the game's data. Over the years the batteries start to die and cannot hold the charge necessary to keep the saved game data saved. You likely just need a battery replacement.
@@deavenpayne8944 I don't have a video for it (though I should probably make one). The only difficulty is when the battery is soldered inside of the cart. But it's a pretty simple operation. You buy a replacement battery, open the cart up and install it etc. There are likely many videos on RU-vid showing the procedure.
I'm literally having the same issue with Super Mario World. I've had the game my whole life and got 86 completion and it erased 😭I started over and it just deleted it again. I'm going clean it. I'm too intimated to change the battery, did you ever change it? Did cleaning solve your issue?
I'm so sorry to hear that happened to your saves! That definitely sounds like a battery issue. I still haven't gotten around to having to replace my battery. If there's enough of a demand for it, I will make a guide video on how to do it though. On the upside, once you've replaced the battery, you'll get to play through the game again! 🙂
70 is fine as well. It won't evaporate as quickly but it works l. Just make sure everything is absolutely dry before you put power to it and turn it on.
A couple hours should be fine but use your eyes as well as common sense. I would test some on your motherboard and see how fast it evaporates. Etc. If you're scrubbing in any tight place, you really want to make sure no liquid remains in some crevice. Err on the side of caution. You really don't want to short anything out.
It'll be fine. The alcohol won't hurt the motherboard at all as long as everything is off. Just dry it with a paper towel and keep on cleaning. Just make sure everything is evaporated and dry before you turn it back on!
@@JeremyKingTech Thank you so much. Before, people on RU-vid taught me to use credit cards and q-tips but those are not very useful. The idea of your way how to clean it with alcohol and toothbrush is cheaper and can do the job cleaning. Which toothbrush to you recommend, soft, medium, or hard?
I was using soft in this video but it really shouldn't matter as long as you're being sensible and not applying a ridiculous amount of pressure. Just gently give it a thorough scrubbing and you'll be all set. I don't know if I mentioned in this video but the reason I have it a cleaning was because it was giving me a black screen (no video). Cleaning with this method for the SNES back in working order. It's definitely a super accessible method.
@@JeremyKingTech You did mentioned the black screen at 5:01 There is nothing wrong with my snes console but it needs to be clean since it's an old console. I'll share your video to keep the Snes fans alive!
There are different versions of the NTSC SNES that were released. I believe 4 main revisions. 2 models have removable 62 pin connectors and 2 models have then soldered to the mainboard. Tldr; some people can't remove the port.
