Nice video, Andy! Cleaning the throttle body does make a lot of difference, doesn't it? One thing I would recommend doing differently, though: Do not remove the negative battery cable. Instead, open up the under-hood fuse box and pull the two fuses for the PCM. On my wife's '06 TB and my '04 TB with the 4.2I6 engine they are fuses #'s 10 and 28. They are labeled PCM-B and PCM-1, respectively. Leave them out for 30-45 minutes, or basically as long as it takes to clean the throttle body. This lets the PCM go 'dumb' and forget all of the adjustments it has been making to compensate for an increasingly dirty throttle body. The problem with pulling the negative cable is that when it is re-attached the HVAC actuators under the dash will go into calibration mode and move themselves around to re-calibrate themselves. They have plastic gears in them, and those gears tend to get brittle with age, and break. Then you have something else to replace! My wife was getting a code for "idle speed lower than expected". I cleaned the throttle body on mine first, for practice, then cleaned the one on her TB. It's been 2 weeks now and no more code!

Praise Jesus, the FIRST DIY video that I have seen yet, on Throttle body where you take it apart and clean it on front and back sides. Thank you. Finally! IMHO I do not believe ANY one can clean the TB by spraying only the intake side. I could be wrong but that is what I believe. Thanks again.

lol no need to take it apart or remove it...to clean it u leave it on otherwise removing it will lead to huge problems within a year

Thanks for the video. My 03 4.2 just started showing P0510 code which is "closed throttle positioning switch" I think I have to remove the throttle body and clean it thoroughly and see if it does the trick
@PhillipsVision
@PhillipsVision 2 года назад
That might be the problem, but that code may also be an indication that the Throttle Body may have other issues and need replacement

Test the fuel pressure, could be a weak fuel pump. Below is a link to a video I did showing that. If that is fine then it could be the Injectors. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kSBAHD11Qe4.html

My 2005 trailblazer don’t have a mass air flow censor lol
@flyboy2610
@flyboy2610 2 года назад
Yes, it does. That electrical connector you have to unplug from the air intake line is the MAF. It may not look like the one in the video, but that's what it is.

So I am stumped. I have a 2003 GMC Envoy 6cyl SLT and cannot find where the MAF is!! We took out the throddle body, and it was filthy and got it all cleaned and the gasket, and it is back in place. But, we can not find the MAF. Can anyone help? Thank you!!
@PhillipsVision
@PhillipsVision Год назад
It should be right after the air filter canister along the air intake duct
@dianahenry3130
@dianahenry3130 Год назад
@Phillips Vision Thank you! We found a very small sensor just beyond the air filter in the duct and cleaned that, but mine is an SLT and not an XL, so there is not a big round MAF like the XL connected to the duct. Nor can we find the smaller rectangular shaped MAF. Autozone and OReilly's do not have an MAF in stock. Now, he did mention a MAP sensor to the right of the Throttle Body, and I do recall that when we cleaned the TB. After cleaning the TB, it started faster and better, and RPMs were steady. It did stall initially once, but that was probably residual. The gas fumes decreased after running it. It has more power. The real test is that after a long drive, it will start to stall once I get off the freeway. Thank you for replying. After nearly $2000 later, this simple cleaning may have done the trick!!

I have a 2009 Envoy. The car was going into limp mode with a code P2135. (rough idle, stalling, ..... 2 times same day). Replaced the throttle body with a new Bosch unit for the 2009 Envoy. The old TB was fairly well carboned. I performed the relearn, it is idling at 700-800 after about 5 seconds after starting. However, when you start to press the accelerator, the car leaches because the engine jumps to 1200 RPM. You just have to barely move the pedal for this to occur. If you are moving and stop, wait 5 seconds, the idle will return to 700-800. If you are in park and you place the car in drive, sometimes the car will increase to 1200 rpm as noted above. I did not have this issue with the old Throttle body. I have driven the car 50 miles with speeds of 50 mph with many stops and go, I am not seeing any improvements. Any ideas? I can't find anything on the internet describing this issue I am experiencing when replacing the throttle body.

This code can also indicate a bad accelerator position sensor. That may be your problem, but you want to diagnose properly so you’re not wasting money on parts that are not the cause

Yes, the Trailblazer in this video is a 2003. It’s located right after the air filter canister attached to the duct going to the throttle body.

Just_trea_duling, is showing his engine. Under power loss and fuel pressure sensor.the sensors on the air cleaner and tube are just like mine. As I described the air cleaner piece, and air temp sensor are showing. But no mass air flow sensor
