Cleaning LECA balls (hydroton) can be a chore, especially when there are little root pieces sticking to them. I figured out an easy and effective way to get roots out of LECA and clean it, with cheap tools you can get from the dollar store. I will also show you how to sanitize LECA quickly and easily.

You look at the camera looking baked and I’m looking at the video also looking baked. Thanks for the tips! Very helpful stuff.

H202 mixed in the water and a high pressure hose/pressure washer (dont use pressure washer on full blast) i made my own strainer out of small gage chicken wire fence and 2x4s. not fun when you have 4-5 55 gallon drums full of used leca to clean. there is also hygrozme and sensizme and a few other types like them.

Get a 5 gallon bucket get your same net pot on it that you probably are already using already, but put pebbles in the bucket with the lid on it, take the garden hose and just fill it up and let it overflow for 5 mins like she said all the roots will float to the top and all the pebbles that float to the top can’t get out because you got the lid on stir a repeat you’re welcome

Thanks so much for the info! I’d had it down already with the strainers but wasn’t doing the pre-soak to get the roots out and ended up boiling with some tiny root fragments still attached. Then I would rinse in a strainer with a wider hole size. I’ll definitely be doing it this way from now on. Thanks again 🤗🤗🤗

I put them back with the rest once I removed all the roots.

I use the Instant Pot and 2 cups of water to pressure steam my pre-rinsed beads... The Instant Pot uses an induction cooker, and has an insulated jacket, and closed top, and will get the beads up to 250F.

How much LECA do you put into your Instant Pot per 2 cups of water?
@thetruthserum2816
@thetruthserum2816 Год назад
@@bdaly03 As much as you can fit in a bowl or steamer basket. Your gasket may smell a little unusual afterwards, but no biggie...

@@thetruthserum2816 Ah okay great, I wasn’t sure if there was a ratio I should abide by or not, so that makes it easier. How long do you let it steam for?
@thetruthserum2816
@thetruthserum2816 Год назад
@@bdaly03 Anywhere from 3-30 minutes per Wiki article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sterilization_(microbiology) Let's say 10 min at high pressure would be perfect. They sure come out clean. I'd say likely an overkill for most applications, unless you are trying to recover from a systemic infection...

@@thetruthserum2816That’s a heck of a lot better than the 30+ minutes I spend boiling my LECA to prepare it for reuse!
