Needed this encouragement, I recently bought a house that came with chickens and I don't think rhe guy has ever cleaned the coop and its so bad I don't even really know where to start

I am glad this gave you some encouragement!! I hope you don’t have too hard of a time getting it clean. Fortunately though once it is clean keeping up on top of it will be so much easier!

How often would you clean out the poop to keep it manageable? I tried to do deep litter method but doesn't seem to work as well in the summer heat. My new strategy is to clean out the droppings regularly, remove some bedding and add fresh pine shavings frequently. Seems like a lot of work, but the chickens are healthy and happy and so may keep this up

I agree, it's much easier to just remove poop and bedding as needed and replace it with fresh material. I have a checklist you can download here for free that has a cleaning schedule with some other chicken-keeping tips, lp.audreyslittlefarm.com/youtube-chicken-keeping-checklist/ But if you clean out the droppings weekly and replace the nesting material every day or every few days as needed you can usually just do one big clean monthly and scoop out all of the shavings and then replace it with fresh shavings and it's usually pretty manageable that way.
