Months ago my partner removed my fridge filter it had a very bad funky smell ewww I found out fish I had cleaned the blood dripped in to the filter my other half he's really good with fixing and repairing stuff Came across your video im very girly don't know how to fix fridges etc my partner is not in to fix it I followed the instructions thanks mate God bless you
Mines was OK. It didn't really smell much at all! There was quite a bit of water in it and it was starting to get brown and gloopy at the bottom it otherwise it was fine! But then again I've only had it for just over 2 & a half years and that's the first I've cleaned that bit out. Mainly due to the fridge freezer being practically crammed in right against the wall and the worktop so it's heavy n hard to get out plus I wasn't even aware of that part existing until recently 🙄
Mine was like soy sauce or something idk what exactly from but it made it smell weird and I deep cleaned the fridge and it still smelled in the morning so I watched this video !! Now it doesn’t smell whatsoever and nats will go away completely. I didn’t know where the nats were coming from either just one or two I see everyday . I put pine sol spray down the fridge trap and baking soda sitting in the fridge to completely get any smells out
Never say that again, it took me the entirely day to find out what causing the smell, I did spring cleaning after I still get the rotten smelling, then I kept thinking harder to find the source of smelling, since in the morning I ended up finding at past 4😊😊😅😅😅😅 then I struggle to clean the drip tray THEN NOW I FINALLY KNOW FROM THIS VIDEO I GOT HOW TO REMOVE IT ( SOLUTION)🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. I'm going to remove it when I arrived

I watched many videos on this issue in different languages- italian, spanish, English with scottish accent and only yours helped me, I liked your advice to use a lot of force, I'm so happy...I'm celebrating now with a glass of red wine

I know right! I was totally scared since the fridge is new as I didn't know why the drip tray was there. Weather it even should stay there or not, I'm still alittle scared because it's new I guess &, never had a drip tray on my old fridge. Anyway, I feel ALOT less scared now, & feel alot better after managing to find this video.
Exactly! I've been scouring the user manual cause I found this dank liquid in a tray at the back of the fridge, no info. Thankfully found this & feel a bit less freaked out!
There was a terrible smell from our fridge following a milk carton leakage. It was in the drip tray and was disgusting. Thanks to you it's all nice and clean now.
Thank you so much for this. We had a horrific smell in the kitchen and eventually tracked it down to being 'around the fridge'. Pulling it out we saw the stagnant water in the tray but didn't know what that part was called or how to get it out. Our kitchen now smells a lot better.

Thanks, Matt, I'd never have believed it required that much force, but it really does! One foot on the compressor, one on the back of the fridge, both hands on the tray and it eventually jumped loose and covered me in foul smelling goo. Lovely! Had to be done though. I'll be filing the plastic clip down a bit before it goes back in for sure.

Dear Matt. Thank you so much for posting this video and including the note about it seeming like it will break you have to pull it so hard, if I hadn’t read that I wouldn’t have dared to continue. I removed the tarry black goo before putting it back. Loved reading other people’s stories too, yes you think this is a rotting creature in the ceiling/ something the cat brought in/ you’re going mad.. is it you? So you caustic soda all your sink pipes and take apart the plumbing underneath.. yes you clean your entire fridge and throw most of it away.. you clean out all your cupboards expecting to find the culprit.... .. and then when you finally hunt it down .. Grey sludge with maggots squirming around in it with a smell that is truly beyond description. Emptying it is death defying. These things are sent to try us.

You’ve just solved the mystery of a terrible stench coming out the back of our fridge! Fortunately tray was easy to pull out and put back. Lifesaver, many thanks!
Thank you very much for this. It's been a great help, although I wasn't able to actually remove the drip tray despite several severe tugs :-). I just squeezed my hands through and used a cloth instead to soak up the liquid and then squeeze it out into a separate container (I wore protective gloves). I then cleaned the tray with a clean cloth soaked in bleach solution (& repeated until the smell was fresh and clean). I had cleaned out the fridge and freezer (removing all contents), and went over this again using diluted bicarbonate of soda in water (in a squeezy bottle), and squirted some of the solution down through the little drip hole inside the fridge, down the plastic pipe, to flush it out. This liquid collected in the bottom of the drip tray, and again I cleaned it out. The putrid smell has now gone, however the fridge compartment still has a very strong odor of citrus - though it doesn't smell toxic or anything, just a very strong 'fridge' smell (the freezer section has no odour). Not sure if there's anything more I can do about that?

You are a lifesaver!! I had this awful rotten meat smell in my studio flat and was almost in tears after coming of the phone to Beko customer service who (incorrectly) told me that I could not remove the tray. I was struggling to clean it at all without removing and it really was terrible with big chunks in it. I am now happy to say that after watching your video I was able to successfully remove it and my flat is now smell free ready for Christmas! I'm going out for a celebratory coffee now. As like everyone else here, I had an absolutely minging smell coming from around the fridge. I spilled some milk a while back and blamed it on that, even though I cleaned it up. Having since been driven mad with the smell after hosing down the fridge several times, I started digging around and found this video. If only I could share pictures, the thing was caked in a brown smelly mold. I almost threw up cleaning it. This is my first fridge since living alone and I had no idea these things needed cleaning. Hello,I just wanted to say many thanks for this,I had absolutely no idea about the drip tray,for the last few days I’ve been bleaching the inside and outside of the fridge,the floor,walls,tiles etc 10 mins later the awful smell started to linger,I followed your clear instructions and saw that the drip tray was half full of brown smelling water,a good clean and scrub and everything is back to normal,thanks again 😊
Very helpful as we did not know what was causing our sour milk smell about a week after a bag of milk leaked inside the fridge. Spent several hours cleaning fridge and smell was still there. Not easy to do, but with the advice of this video we did not attempt to clean it in the reservoir - rather felt confident to try and remove it. Thank you!

My word Matt i had this happen about 18 months ago assumed it was the gas cannister thing that had gone and threw a fridge out and bought a new one. Fast forward 18 months same smell literally thought nah not again but with a cost of living crisis decided to try and see if we could do any thing and found this. Can't thank you enough mate that's excellent.
Thanks Matt, the smell has been driving me crazy for a couple of weeks, cleaned and searched everywhere until today I pulled the fridge from under the worktop, to say the drip tray was disgusting is being too polite, got it out and cleaned and now back in after much retching. thank you so much
I have searched and cleaned all around, couldn’t find a smell. Finally, pulled the frig out and saw that pan of yuk! Thanks so much. I have old frig so I won’t try to do it myself, but I at least know what to expect by calling repair person.

My Beko was purchased in 2017 and after a lot of heaving, I could not remove the tray. It was pulling on the actual motor and I think if I had applied any more force, I would have broken something. I wicked the water out with Blitz tissues and steamcleaned the tube and the parts of the tray I could access with a hand-steamer. So far so good. Thanks for the information.

This was very helpful! I had spilled milk that was stinking up the place. My drip pan is exactly the same as this one. Could not figure out how to pull it out. Almost vomited but it is clean now. Thanks for making this.

I literally watched your video and did exactly as you instructed. I started straight away however, I couldn't get it done as quickly as I was hoping for. Wasn't quite ready for the three dead mice behind the fridge freezer (courtesy of my generous cat!) and the absolute mess with dust and dirt etc. The cleaning up took the most time. Well instructed video. Keep up the fantastic work!
Really useful piece of information. Milk bottle top leaked and within two days kitchen stank. Difficult tracing source but had same on previous fridge. Why oh why is this NOT in manual that comes with fridge. Thanksfor explanation about evaporating condensation drips and that it us very tough to get out. You do think it will break, but cleans up once out.
Our fridge started to smell like rotten fish. And we don't know where the smell is coming from. The manual didn't indicate the location of the drip tray. Thank you for this.
wow thank you you are a life saver we had such a bad smell in the kitchen it made you feel sick we nearly got council out because we didint know where smell was coming from and only because my wife was painting and she moved freezer out and saw the tray it is now in the sink with hot soapy water the tray was disgusting lol once again a big thank you

Thanks mate, from the smell I think we've had a visit from a mouse. Found this video really quickly and you really do need the advice to use force taking the tray off. I guess as long as you're careful not disturb the copper pipes too much it's fine. I damaged the clip but it won't fall off. The tray was coated in brown treacly slime, 80C hot water, washing up liquid, bleach and a toothbrush to shift it. Without the tray off no chance :)
After hearing some strange noises from the back of the fridge, turns out there was a rats nest near the motor. They'd been in the tray for a drink. Absolutley disgusting when I pulled it out. Your video helped a lot. Thank you.

You're a star. I worked out where the smell was from, but didn't have the confidence to rip the tray out. Foot on compressor and with one good pull it came out. Beware of flying skanky fluid though... I have a BEKO fridge (inherited, not purchased !). Thanks again.

I had a mystery smell in my apartment for at least a couple of years and it drove me nuts, it always seemed to get worse in hot weather. I deep cleaned everything in the place and for some reason the existence of the drip tray escaped me. I took it out and it was full of the most disgusting mold-filled, slimy black water I have ever seen. God knows how much those spores have been affecting my health. I poured it down the toilet and flushed a few times. There was black slime in the bottom which I had to get out. Then I bleached it for an hour in hot water with loads of bleach in it. So good to put that sparkling fresh tray back in.

Just cleaned mine out... a awful smell started to linger smelt around and my nose led me to the fridge and I looked back there and I was petrified and what I saw growing back there 😳 the overwhelming stench and what seemed to be eyes looking at me confirmed my fears... so me and that fridge had a battle for the century ⚔️🛡 but in the end i came out victorious!!⚔️ the legends will be told of this fate filled day and glory 😤⚔️ for centuries to come... I just hope no one has to trek through what horrors o had to endure.. but yes I know no one will ever see this comment..... but one day just maybe this will be in the RU-vid recommended for a few unlucky travelers 🧳 or just possibly people that will endure the same horrors, but with that I will end my journey and wish you luck with yours! 😂😂 man I thought a rat died in the back of mind. I found baby magets lerking in the waters. I panicked and poured bleach into it. Now I need to man up and unclip the tray as a brave 🪖 you once war!😔✊🏽⚡

@lisa gaye hahahahhhaahhah be strong soldier! as an update, I just empty out my water and cause it's been a month and guess what I found dirty moss looking things in there but no magnets this time yeah!!! Guys dont forget to change that thing like you change your oil on your car, it's worth it!

Thank you so much for this video, it saved me money and time. First I thought it was like gas leak, and the smell was awful. Your video really opened my eyes to something I never knew. With my fridge it was really very easy to take the dirty tray out and clean it. Once again thank you so much, as I was thinking of buying a new fridge as repairing these days cost too much money and makes it not worthy.
