Beko TDA 531 fridge: removing drip tray 

Really useful - also worked on our UL584 fridge which has a different drip tray but same fixing. Words of advice - keep the compressor still with one hand while pulling the drip tray with the other to prevent damage to the refrigerator circuit. The tray didn’t need jerks or tugs to move it, just twist and pull one way and then the other a few times with steady force.

I struggled with brute force for a while but then, however, I thought there must be some sense to the instructions so I slid a screwdriver under the tray in the direction of the fixing place - the "lug" - and it must have shifted something because the tray slid out! I wouldnt have tried that if you hadn't shown how the fixing works.

Ah, so glad this video has helped. It's a somewhat niche topic but I made it after finding the instruction manual no use and contradictory info on the internet. What a stupid design to have to use brute force to remove and clean the tray.

Thanks for video. I recomend to put some lube (silicon lube) in to the place where the plastic clip is. I put some cooking oil with my finger before removing it and using my finger I pushed the clip down and removed the it with jerky movements left and right towards me. It worked perfectly for me and did not break anything. Good luck

That is a very useful and I did remove it. Thanks. It certainly needed a good clean. It was best to first pull the tray hard one way in the horizontal then the other way . It came off quite easily. To put it back I did the same kind of movement, first one way then the other.

Thank you so much DrNoNothing. I don't think that clip is anything other than a fit at factory one-way bayonet. I had tried a year or so back, but lacked the courage to go for broke. Seeing your video today emboldened me to go again but with full brute force, and even though I squirted in some WD40 to ease the unseating, it still took full force and clip breakage to get it off. Damn Beko for not designing something more easy to maintain. I've suffered a year or more than I needed to of bad odours just because of this very poor design. Users should be aware of that wrist-slashing flattened pipe coming out of the motor (right hand side as you look at it from the rear), put a Cork over it or some duct tape around it (as I did) before wrestling with the tray, just in case, otherwise you will curse Beko as you bleed-out and die on your own kitchen floor. Kind regards to DrNo and all (but not to Beko).

Helpful. You confirmed that arthritic hands can't do it. It keeps the repairmen in work, and I don't mind, but in lockdown it's not easy. A peg on the nose perhaps, or let my newly adopted cat do what she is trying to do and lick it clean.

I tried everything. Went for brute force in the end and the clip broke which then left me with a full face of stagnant water much to the amusement of my partner. Very poor design 😅😅😅

I've moved house since making this video. The fridge in the new house is integrated with the kitchen units. I dread the day when the drip tray starts to smell. Would I have to dismantle the cabinets to get to it?

This just happened to me and dont know lug from a bolt. But what i did was push in turn left and right then pull a couple times and it came out easy. Screwdriver didnt work for me for some reason

You do feel like you’re going to break it but keep going with it… left and right. Eventually it comes out and is a doddle to get back in.

Similar problem with my Bosch Classixx fridge. Smell is foul. Cleaned out with kitchen towel and bicarbonate of soda. Still smells when turned back on. I'm wandering if it can come off similar to like yours and if i can get a replacement. What did you clean yours with?

Is a drip tray ever screwed into place?

My drip tray has started to smell because the cat brought in a mouse which took up residence behind the fridge and has been using the drip tray as a lavatory. Yes, gently warmed mouse urine smells awful!

Thanks for the vid. What a stupid design! You have to use brute force when it's full of stinking liquid! I trimmed the edges off of the lug thingy on the underside of the tray so it can slide in and out more easily next time.

Very bad design, I tried to pull it very hard but still wouldn’t budge, just sprayed anti bacterial spray onto tray and wiped it out with kitchen roll
