Don’t let the brushes soak inside a water bath Just put the micellarwater directly on the brush head and let that soak with the handle pointing upwards, otherwise you risk the glue inside the Ferrule(metal bit that holds the bristles) to losen thusly brush hairs falling out and losing their shape
You guys are Funny 😅😅😅.. It's so easy.. Buy one makeup cleaning bowl and put water in it.. Just pour 2/3 drops of dish washer in it.. Soak your brush in that water for 30 mins and then clean it.. Use your make up cleaning bowl's pad to rub the brush.. Thats all
I don't soak them as it's bad for the glue that holds the brush together. I wet them, then lightly dip them in @dawn dish soap, swirl them on the palm of my hand, which breaks up the oils from the makeup. I rinse them until the water runs clear and then hang them to dry.
I hang mine with a brush hanger that has suction cups so you can stick it to your mirror or shower door and put the brushes in the hanger. You can get them at Ross, Burlington, Amazon. If I have 1 or 2, I put a pony tail holder around my faucet and loop the handles thru it to dry...always with the brush head down.
Do not soak your brushes!!!! Water can travel up into the ferrule (the metal part that connects the brush hairs to the handle) and loosen the glue that holds in the brush hairs. You’ll ruin your brushes!
The best solution for stuck-on product is mixing mild dish soap, baking powder and warm water, getting the mixture on the brush and rinsing after 10-15 mins. The baking powder will lift dirt very efficiently.
No you do not want to soak your brushes at least don’t let the water hit the bristle shaft. It will loosen the glue if it gets inside. You always want to face then down so water doesn’t get in. And you need to swirl the brush on your palm or you can get a makeup brush cleaning pad. I just use dr bronners diluted and I just swish the brush around. And then rinse the rest off but never let water get in to far. I learned this tips in the early 2000s from a MAC makeup artist, back when MAC was THE makeup brand. I still have my first MAC brushed I got when I was 15 in 2005. I still use them they’re in great condition and I credit it to how I clean them.
I clean mine with an anti-dandruff shampoo and then give the bristles a quick soak for a few minutes in hair conditioner or a mask. Then wash out thoroughly.
I recently saw someone else comment on a similar short about cleaning make up brushes that she used castile bar soap for cleaning her brushes and sponges. I gave it a try with Dr. Bronner’s castile soap (rose scent) bar from Amazon and let me tell you it worked amazing!! No soaking necessary, and the olive and coconut oil in the soap does a fabulous job breaking down the make up gently. Not a spec of foundation or stains on my beauty blender and the brushes were completely clean in minutes.
Finally, someone else has picked up on my pretty obvious tip. Idon't dilute mine, or submerge that much since I do it pretty frequently but regardless it does indeed do a remarkable job. Especially on natural bristles. ❤
Dove makes me break out in hives! I keep a bottle of Dawn under my bathroom sink for my brushes and cleaning my shower/coffee pot/etc. So versatile and cheap!
Yup!! Always love to wash my brushes with bar soap. Works SO MUCH BETTER than brush cleansers or face wash or pump hand soap. If you get a ton of soap as gifts but never really use it like my mom and I, this is a great option. 😅❤
I need to get a dove bar . I’ve been using the zote bar for years I know it’s a detergent and so I want to try something smoother esp for eye brushes . Tfs tips❤
I’ve found Dawn Dish liquid in HOT water is the best. Then after they’re rinsed, I dip them in 70% alcohol and let them soak about 15 minutes. I take them out of the container, use a clean paper towel to remove the excess, and let them air dry. That acts as the sanitizer. You must sanitize after cleaning. They smell SO fresh and feel SO fluffy when you use them.
This works for natural bristle brushes. Synthetic bristle brushes better be cleaned with soap liquid or solid! My prefered bar of soap is a virgin olive oil one.
Just use isopropyl alcohol. Dip the brush in and then clean it off on a paper towel. Keep doing it until the paper towel is clean. Don’t leave the brushes to soak in it or it’ll melt the glue holding the bristled in place
I use a bit of dish soap with rubbing alcohol added to it and swirl the brushes around in my textured silicone brush makeup cleaner bowl until the brushes are clean of make, then I rinse the brushes one at a time under warm running water, gently squeeze the excess water out, then swipe the brushes back and forth softly on whatever I'm drying them on (ie towel, gauze, etc) then mist them lightly with rubbing alcohol and lay them down flat to dry completely before I put them away Ps: When you wash your brushes don't forget to wash whatever you keep your brushes in too!! 😅
I agree, bar soap is way more thorough for cleaning makeup residue and it rinses out completely. I have expensive liquid brush cleaners that don’t work as well. Bar soap is excellent for make up sponges as well for same reason.
The best make up brushes cleaner is extra virgin olive oil . Take a little oil in the palm of your hand and swirl the brush . When most of the gunk is out rinse the brush in soapy water . The oil will leave the bristles soft and un damaged . An extra virgin olive oil is also an amazing make up remover . Also repairing the skin cos it is rich in vitamin E . Good for skin break out ,psoriasis , acne , eczema and dry/oily skin . Olden days , we used to create a warm hair mask with olive oil . Repairing damaged hair . Olive oil girls no need of shitty soap
That's cool! I use dawn dish detergent or Persil deep clean and Oxi with warm water that always helps; and when I'm done, I sit the brushes face down on a towel in an upside HUGE KFC CUP, that way the water just rolls down into the towel having them to dry faster🥰
I might 😮get one of those twxtured silicone dish cleaning gloves. It will work well with using Dawn and rubbing them against your hands. I have been using a little cake of hotel guest soap, which works for my eye shadow brushes but not some of my face brushes. Especially ones used for foundation.
I only use bar soap that can be used on the face to clean my brushes(any brands) and they work perfectly fine and cheaper than any brush soap on the market.
I use micellar water & a drop of Dawn antibacterial, then I use Ivory bar soap. Rince very well and air dry. I still have my first make up brush ever purchased (purchased by my Mother in 1985, she passed in 1988) I am now 53. Before micellar water, I used Dawn and Ivory
I use aloe vera anti bacterial liquid soap. Far more hygienic and it does the job in removing make up. I wear dish washing gloves and swirl the make up brushes in the palm of my hand thats wearing the dish washing glove. So much better protection for my skin too. Each to their own. ❤❤❤
Put the brushes in a glass with warm water and shampoo, leave for 20 minutes and rinse with clean water. All the grease is dirt, it comes out without ruining the bristles of the brushes.
Prop the ends of brushes up so water runs out of the bristles and doesn’t pool in ferrule. I roll towels up and do two rows. I also use mesh sleeves to shape bristles
